Chapter 185: She's Just One Person
Chapter 185: She's Just One Person
Rod counted the children: a total of 14. Twelve of them were being herded along, while the other two were being carried, looking like they had just been beaten.
"I can sneak through the ground and rescue the children. However, to be safe, it would be best to distract them before I make my move."
Erza said, "Leave that to me."
One of the things Fairy Tail excels at is drawing attention—by any means necessary.
"Alright, wait for my signal." Rod summoned Worm again and handed it to Erza as a signal.
"Summon, Ancient Stone Beetles! Split, split, dive!"
Rod summoned another group of stone beetles, splitting them into mini beetles, making a total of 12. They all burrowed into the ground.
"Transform—Ancient Stone Beetle!" Rod transformed into a stone beetle and gave Erza a thumbs-up before sinking into the ground.
Erza, holding Worm, moved to a different hiding spot.
...
Near the altar, the leader of the Black Magic Cult 'Shadow Demon,' Ghost Shadow, was questioning one of his subordinates. "What happened to those two brats?"
"They tried to escape on the way here. We had to use a bit more force to bring them back."
Looking at the speaker, Ghost Shadow knew it wasn't just "a bit more force." It was clearly an opportunity to vent their frustration.
Fortunately, they still had some restraint and didn't kill them.
His nostrils flared, and he frowned. "Wash them. It's disrespectful to Lord Carnivore to present such dirty sacrifices."
"Yes, sir!"
There was no hot water to be found, so the black-robed figures just brought some cold water to help the children bathe.
A gray-haired boy, covered in bruises, still held his little sister tightly, whispering, "It's... it's okay. Just hold on a little longer, and it'll be over soon."
The little girl sobbed uncontrollably. She had known for a long time that her brother was a liar.
Worm, acting as the signal, disappeared, indicating that Rod was ready.
Erza immediately stepped forward and shouted down the hill, "This ends now, Shadow Demon!"
The dozens of Shadow Demon members were taken aback. "Who's there!"
"Change—Giant's Armor!" Erza was now clad in a heavy yellow armor, and a long spear appeared in her hand.
Without a word, she gathered her strength and hurled the spear. "Piercing Evil Lance!"
"How dare you!"
"Just one person and she dares to attack first!"
Ghost Shadow sensed something was wrong. "Her target is the altar! Stop her!"
Erza's spear, thrown with fury, was not easily intercepted.
Five people near the altar jumped up to try and block it.
Two of them misjudged the speed and missed entirely.
The other three tried to block the spear with their weapons but were knocked down with it.
The spear was like a meteor, yes, a meteor that crashed into their heads.
A loud boom echoed.
The altar, which the Shadow Demon members had painstakingly built, was shattered into pieces by Erza's single spear.
The black-robed figures stared dumbfounded at the destroyed altar, unsure of how to react.
Was that really just a spear, or was it some kind of magic cannon?
"Damn it..." Ghost Shadow watched helplessly as the woman on the hill destroyed their days of hard work and years of hope.
His hand clenched his staff tightly, veins bulging. "Kill her! Offer her to Lord Carnivore!"
"Boss, the children are gone!"
"What did you say?"
Ghost Shadow suddenly turned his head, only to find that the children who were waiting for their baths had vanished.
"That woman, and her accomplices!"
Erza was already striding down the hill.
Twelve Mini Stone Beetles emerged from behind her, each one holding a child with their pincer-like mouths.
Rod appeared carrying the brother and sister.
He had wanted to get further away, but the children, who didn’t understand magic and had no defenses, might have suffocated after being underground for too long, so he brought them up early.
"Ah!"
"Wow!"
The children let out cries of surprise, gasping for air.
"Don’t be afraid. We are mages here to save you. Don’t worry; we’ll get you home soon."
Rod dispelled his transformation and tried to calm the children.
"Home? You’re not going anywhere!"
At Ghost Shadow’s command, all the black-robed mages with staffs fired magic projectiles at them.
These magic projectiles were different from the regular impact and explosion spells used by the Council’s troops. Each one was a dark magic spell with a curse effect.
Rod’s hand reached for his pendant, but Erza stopped him. "Take the children and leave. The rest is up to me!"
"Let’s go!" Rod wasn’t one to dawdle like in a cheesy TV drama. When Erza told him to go, he immediately hesitated.
.
The Mini Stone Beetles picked up the children and started running, their little legs moving as fast as they could.
"Requip: Adamantine Armor!"
Erza changed into a heavier set of armor, raising her arms in front of her. The arm guards on her forearms closed together like a shield.
At the same time, a large green defensive magic circle formed in the air.
More than thirty magic projectiles were blocked by the green magic circle, exploding into ugly fireworks.
Erza’s scarlet hair danced in the wind, her solid back providing a reassuring presence.
"Keep attacking! She’s just one person!"
Another round of multicolored magic projectiles hit, causing the defensive magic circle to flicker.
Then, more black-robed mages, skilled in close combat, charged various weapons and charged forward.
Erza glanced back.
Rod, the master of retreat, had already switched the Stone Beetles carrying the children to Sharpbeak Birds, which flapped their wings and half-flew, half-ran at an incredible speed.
They were almost at the back of the hill, and the twelve Mini Stone Beetles had burrowed underground. Six Shadow Wolves were also running down the hill.
Two Swamp Toads flanked the sides—Rod had no qualms about using poison against these enemies.
Erza smiled; Rod was indeed a reliable partner.
By the time she turned back to block another round of attacks, her expression had become serious. She changed into a new set of armor.
Erza, holding dual swords, sprouted steel wings and hovered in the air. Sixteen Heavenly Wheel Swords flew out toward the black mages charging at her.
These black mages weren’t ordinary minions; the Heavenly Wheel Swords only managed to take down six or seven of them.
But this distinctive appearance and technique revealed their enemy to them:
"The special Requip magic that changes even the armor, that scarlet hair, and that armor… She’s the Queen of the Fairies, Erza Scarlet!"
"So, the other one must be a mage from Fairy Tail!"
"The strongest guild in Fiore…" Ghost Shadow clenched his staff, realizing they were in deep trouble.
