Chapter 184: The Odd Trio
Chapter 184: The Odd Trio
Professor Qilo's Defense Against the Dark Arts class remained as dreadful as ever, especially after his arm injury, leaving the task of caring for the "assistant" to the young wizard.
A Gryffindor student near the podium was lucky enough to receive this assignment.
Kyle noticed that when he took the large lizard, his face turned pale, and he stood stiffly, not daring to move. It was as if he were holding not an innocent small animal but an Animagus of Professor Snape.
"I'm so sick of this..."
After class, Kyle overheard him complaining to his friends as he left the classroom.
"The lizard smells exactly like Professor Qilo. Does it eat garlic every day... And now that smell must have rubbed off on me!
Oh, it's disgusting... I hope the Cleansing Charm works, or else I'll have to buy a new school uniform."
Kyle subconsciously sniffed, and indeed, there was a faint garlic smell on him, though not as strong as on Qilo. Plus, since they had just come out of the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom, not many people noticed it.
With that smell, it's no wonder he wanted to change into a new uniform.
Several people hurried past him, and when they reached the second floor, Kyle suddenly stopped.
He turned to the people beside him and asked, "I'm going to the library. Do you want to come with me?"
"No, no."
Michael and Ryan shook their heads repeatedly.
Kyle wasn't surprised. Besides doing homework, they usually avoided the library.
"I'm not going either." Conna thought for a moment and shook her head. "I've been studying Professor Snape's notes lately. There's a check-up during Christmas, so I don't have time to read other books."
"Snape's notes?"
Kyle's eyes lit up. "Can I borrow them... Don't worry, I'll make a copy. I won't waste your time."
Last year, he had received Professor Flitwick's notes on Charms, which included not only the professor's unique understanding of Charms but also many practical tips for application.
These insights, not found in textbooks, had greatly benefited him. They were the kind of treasures that couldn't be bought even with a Galleon.
"Sure, you can look at them if you want." Conna replied without hesitation. "You go to the library first. I'll make a copy for you when I get back.
But... be careful when you look at them, and don't let Professor Snape find out. He told me not to share them."
Conna's expression was a bit odd as she spoke.
In fact, when Snape gave her the notes, he not only told her not to share them but also specifically mentioned someone's name.
She just didn't feel comfortable saying it in front of that person.
"Don't worry, Professor Snape won't find out." Kyle assured her, patting his chest. "I'm the most discreet person at Hogwarts."
"And..."
Conna continued, "My Replication Charm isn't as good as yours. It'll probably only last about a week, so you'd better look at them quickly."
Kyle wasn't concerned about this issue either. He had a Quick-Notes Quill, so he could transcribe them in half a day, let alone a week.
After making their decision, Conna and the other two returned to the Common Room, while Kyle turned and headed straight for the library.
There were still quite a few young wizards in Hogwarts who enjoyed the library, and even though class had just ended, the library was almost full.
Kyle also spotted the Gryffindor trio sitting at a table near the entrance, with a tall stack of books beside them.
Kyle glanced at them subconsciously.
It wasn't unusual to see Hermione there, as she practically lived in the library, visiting almost every day.
But Harry and Ron were a different story.
They were like his roommates, the type who would walk around the library but rarely enter it.
What surprised Kyle even more was that there were no parchment or quills on their table, clearly not doing homework.
Were they here just to read books? That was quite a rare occurrence.
However, Kyle didn't say much and simply greeted the trio before heading towards Madam Pince.
"Harry..."
As Kyle walked away, Ron whispered, "What do you think about asking Kyle? If it's him, he might know who Niccolme is."
"No way!"
Before Harry could respond, Hermione immediately rejected the idea, "This is too dangerous. Don't forget, Snape tried to kill Harry last time. We can't involve Kyle in this."
"Yeah... Hermione's right." Harry hesitated for a moment and nodded in agreement.
He also thought it was better not to tell Kyle about this, and Ron's suggestion was just a guess.
Even if Kyle was smart, it didn't mean he would definitely know who Niccolme was.
Hermione was a perfect example.
"Okay, I was just saying." Ron shrugged, "If you don't agree, that's fine."
As the group discussed, Kyle managed to borrow the book he wanted and prepared to leave the library.
When passing by the trio, Kyle suddenly noticed that they looked a bit odd when they saw him.
Their smiles seemed forced, and there was a hint of awkwardness.
Seeing me... awkward? What's wrong with them, or have these people gone crazy? Kyle furrowed his brows in confusion and quickly left the library.
Although he didn't know what was going on, it was better to stay away from them for safety.
Hermione was a good example. She was a nice girl, but ever since she got close to them, she started acting strangely.
Scary!
Upon returning to the common room, Kyle first found Conna and obtained Snape's notes.
They weren't thick, probably similar to the ones Professor Filius gave him, and likely not the complete set.
"Be careful not to let Professor Snape find out," Conna reminded him again, "or I'll get scolded."
"Don't worry."
Kyle took the notebook and found a secluded spot to sit down.
But instead of reading the notes, he opened the book he borrowed from the library.
"Legendary Alchemical Artifacts"
The first item mentioned was the Auto-Stir Cauldron.
This artifact was introduced in last year's History of Magic class, and its invention significantly increased the success rate of potions and reduced potential accidents.
It was truly significant.
After the Auto-Stir Cauldron, there were Flying Broomsticks, the Mirror of Erised, and the Time-Turner...
But Kyle wasn't interested in these. He quickly flipped through the book and soon found what he needed.
The Philosopher's Stone!
