Chapter 184: Might Guy's Excitement
Might Dai and Mu Yue walked into the house together.
"Welcome home, Dad," Might Guy said, his voice catching as he noticed Might Dai's attire.
Might Dai was decked out in green, now adorned with the green jacket of a Jonin ninja of Konoha!
It was easily recognizable, as Might Dai typically wore only a green bodysuit, so the addition of the jacket was distinct.
"Dad, is that incredibly awesome and youthful thing you mentioned...?" Might Guy trailed off, his eyes widening with excitement as he spoke.
He had thought of a possibility, one that thrilled him to no end.
"You bet it is!" Might Dai laughed heartily.
He gave himself a thumbs-up, his white teeth flashing in a broad smile, and said to Might Guy, "I'm not just any Jonin; I'm Might Dai, Jonin of Konohagakure!"
"Dad, you're finally a Jonin! No one can call you a Genin forever anymore," Might Guy exclaimed, overcome with emotion as he rushed forward to embrace his father.
Might Dai returned the embrace, and both men wept tears of joy, their excitement palpable.
Might Guy was overjoyed that no one would ever again insult his father as a Genin forever, and Might Dai was thrilled that he could now offer his son even more support.
Obito scratched his head, somewhat perplexed by the display. In his understanding, being a Jonin wasn't that impressive; after all, Kakashi had become one at the age of six.
Nonetheless, Obito could sense the strong bond between Might Guy and Might Dai.
Stop watched the heartwarming father-son moment, his thoughts turning to the short blade he always carried with him. He didn't feel envious, though.
Kakashi, more than anyone, understood the significance of Might Dai's Jonin status. He had known Might Guy since they were very young, and on the day they checked their academy entrance test results, White Fang had already seen Might Guy's potential. Kakashi had been told that he could be friends with Might Guy, and that one day, Might Guy might even surpass him.
So, Kakashi was also aware of Might Guy's family situation. Unlike his son, Might Dai, Might Guy's father, was not a renowned powerful ninja. Instead, he was a perpetual Genin, often scorned by others.
While Might Dai didn't pay heed to the gossip, Might Guy took it to heart. He wouldn't tolerate anyone badmouthing his father, and he once sought revenge against some ninjas who had disparaged him, only to be stopped by Kakashi, who happened to pass by and dealt with the two ninjas. That incident had spared Might Guy from a severe beating.
Now that Might Dai had become a Jonin, the label of "Genin forever" no longer held any weight, and one could only imagine the joy and excitement surging through Might Guy.
"Guy, you should really thank Teacher Mu Yue," Might Dai said, placing a hand on Might Guy's shoulder. "Your promotion is largely thanks to her."
Mu Yue had been incredibly helpful to their family. Aside from introducing him to the Third Hokage and giving him the secret medicine, she had gone above and beyond as Might Guy's teacher, considering his well-being from every angle.
"Yes, Teacher Mu Yue, thank you for everything you've done for me. I'm truly grateful," Might Guy said, his voice thick with emotion as tears welled up in his eyes once more.
Recalling his journey with Mu Yue, from their first meeting to the present, Might Guy felt as if he were living a dream.
From Mu Yue, Might Guy had felt a connection similar to the one he shared with his father—an unconditional love that expected nothing in return, only happiness in his growth.
But Might Guy never imagined that Mu Yue would go to such lengths, even helping his father advance in rank and shed the label of "Genin forever."
But Mu Yue's help in promoting Might Dai made Might Guy understand even more deeply Mu Yue's kindness towards him.
Although Mu Yue had not yet given him a gift, Might Guy felt that he had received the best birthday present as he felt Mu Yue's heartfelt consideration.
"It's also because Senior Dai has the ability. I just did what I could," Mu Yue said with a smile, then took out a handkerchief to wipe away Might Guy's tears.
He wouldn't usually do such a thing, as he felt it might be a bit too much, but the timing and atmosphere felt just right for this gesture.
"Indeed, the all-capable Immortal Mu Yue," Obito chuckled, then took out a green bodysuit and handed it to Might Guy. "This is your present. I had someone tailor-make this bodysuit for you, and there's even a 'Guy' character embroidered on the chest."
Might Guy took the bodysuit and unfolded it, and indeed, just as Obito said, there was a 'Guy' character embroidered on the chest.
"Obito, you have great taste!" Might Guy praised, giving Obito a thumbs-up. He was very pleased with Obito's gift.
"I figured you'd like it since you wear bodysuits all the time, Akai," Obito said with a proud smile.
"This is a painting I made," Nohara Rin said softly as she presented her gift.
Might Guy took the painting and examined it carefully. It depicted their usual training scene in the forest, featuring not only himself but also the others.
In the painting, Might Guy was shown lifting a large stone while drenched in sweat, Kakashi was seriously practicing fire ninjutsu with a huge fireball in front of him, Obito was covering his head as if saying something, and Mu Yue maintained his signature two-fingered hand seal. The overall composition of the painting was very heartwarming.
"Haha! It's a great painting! Obito's expression after being knocked out is exactly the same as usual," Might Guy laughed heartily.
"Huh? What do you mean by 'knocked out'?" Obito curiously leaned over to take a look and happened to see the part of the painting where he was depicted being knocked out.
"Why am I the only one being knocked out while everyone else is training? Little Rin, you have such a deep misunderstanding of me," Obito said with a pained expression.
"I just felt that it would be a little more interesting this way," Nohara Rin replied with a gentle laugh, covering her mouth.
Kakashi's gift to Might Guy was a set of weighted training gear, while Hatake Kakashi gave him several cultivation pills.
"This is a notebook containing the insights your father and I wrote about taijutsu training. Even if we're not by your side in the future, you can still cultivate according to the experiences recorded in this notebook," Mu Yue said with a smile as he handed Might Guy a notebook.
"Guy, your youth is forever advancing!" Might Dai laughed and encouraged him.
Might Guy nodded vigorously. At that moment, a gentle breeze blew, flipping open the notebook. Might Guy caught sight of the various experiences regarding the Eight Inner Gates and Rock Breathing, written in two distinct handwriting styles.
Might Guy imagined the scene of the two of them pondering and carefully recording their insights, and once again, tears of joy and excitement welled up in his eyes.
"Teacher Mu Yue, Dad, thank you for the gifts. I will definitely live up to your expectations!" Might Guy exclaimed.
Mu Yue revealed a gentle smile.
