Chapter 184: Lanchi's Map of Yan Kingdom is Too Incomplete
Chapter 184: Lanchi's Map of Yan Kingdom is Too Incomplete
Adams strolled through the courtyard of the main building of the Sage Academy, soon spotting a familiar figure at the far end.
As promised, Teacher Teresa was already waiting to greet him, having arrived early to receive the Arloran Kingdom's academic exchange team.
"Student Adams, please come with me. Lanchi is already in the conference room," Teacher Teresa said in her customarily gentle tone.
Before leaving on his trip, Dean Lorren had entrusted the matter of the academic exchange with the Arloran Kingdom to Teacher Teresa, who was usually less busy and highly reliable.
Additionally, Teacher Teresa had interacted with Lanchi a few times since the entrance exam, and Lanchi was one of the rare students who paid attention in her "Magic Genealogy" class.
Despite his concerns, Dean Lorren couldn't help but think that Teacher Teresa was the best choice for this task.
He could only hope that she would be able to keep Lanchi somewhat in check.
"Thank you, Teacher Teresa," Adams said politely to the amicable teacher before following her.
Ever since arriving at the Ikelite Academy, he had noticed that the students of the Sage Academy were all of exceptional caliber.
When he proposed a spar, not only did the third-year students show no signs of competitiveness, but they also graciously yielded, leaving Adams slightly embarrassed.
However, they didn't want his visit to be in vain, and understanding what kind of opponent Adams sought, they revealed the name "Lanchi" to him.
Out of respect for the knight's code, Adams refrained from specifically investigating his opponent within the Ikelite Academy before the spar, only gathering some basic information about Lanchi from the upperclassmen of the Sage Academy.
But from Dean Lorren's vehement opposition, it was clear that this first-year student, Lanchi, must be the Sage Academy's secret ace.
Undoubtedly.
A few minutes later.
Adams followed Teacher Teresa to a heavy door at the top floor of the Sage Academy.
This was the large conference room where the teachers of the Sage Academy usually held their gatherings, but today it had been vacated for their use.
"We're here," Teacher Teresa said with a smile as she pushed open the door.
Adams was greeted by a spacious room dominated by white hues, a blend of an office and a reception area, with bright yet soft lighting creating a harmonious atmosphere. Over a dozen round tables encircled a central holographic magic screen.
In a casual spot to the side of the room, a figure sat in a chair by one of the round tables, his back to the table as he seemed to be admiring the campus scenery outside the floor-to-ceiling windows.
Even though he was just sitting there nonchalantly, Adams immediately recognized him.
That person was the very center of attention in this conference room, the legendary secret weapon cultivated by Dean Lorren—Lanchi Willford.
The young man in the chair promptly turned around upon noticing Adams' arrival, a courteous gesture to welcome his guest.
"Student Adams, you're here," Lanchi said with a smile, sitting elegantly in his chair while petting a black kitten in his lap.
The warm and gentle aura he exuded left Adams slightly dazed.
He had never imagined that his opponent would be such an innocuous and pure-hearted youth, someone who didn't even harbor a hint of hostility towards his rival.
This sense of pure-heartedness reminded Adams of their genius card maker junior, Karen.
If Lanchi was also someone who matured late, Adams wondered how he could possibly assert dominance over him.
"You two can discuss the specifics of your spar, and we'll act as witnesses," Teacher Teresa said, leading Adams to the round table in front of Lanchi. She then took a seat beside them.
Although it wasn't an official meeting time for the Sage Academy, several Ikelite Academy staff members and upperclassmen who would provide witnessing and technical support for the spar were already present in the conference room.
It was more than he had imagined.
Perhaps this crowd had gathered to watch the excitement.
Teresa glanced at Lanchi.
She had felt it since this morning; Lanchi seemed a little different from usual today, but she couldn't quite put her finger on what it was.
That's right.
Teresa suddenly remembered—
During this period, Hubertian had taken leave, and Lanchi rarely acted alone.
Of course, Lanchi also had a little black cat with him, sometimes sitting on his hand, sometimes perched on his shoulder, and sometimes lying on his head.
Because this black kitten was so playful and cute, many curious girls from the Sage Academy wanted to touch it.
But seeing that the cat was with Lanchi, they all chose to stay away.
Based on Teresa's understanding, although there were female students in the Sage Academy who had shown interest in Lanchi because of his appearance, temperament, and talent when he first enrolled, none of them dared to approach him.
It wasn't that Lanchi's popularity wasn't high enough nowadays.
It was more like he was someone to be admired from afar and not played with.
Just like how students with a crush might feel, but as long as they were lucid, they generally wouldn't consider the principal as a potential romantic partner.
But what was wrong with Lanchi now...
"Wait, Hubertian isn't here..."
Teresa's face turned pale.
The only sane person by Lanchi's side was gone, and without that reference and external conscience, Lanchi would likely run wild and do as he pleased!
Realizing the seriousness of the problem, Teresa quickly turned her head away, for while escaping was shameful, she feared she would be implicated as well.
"Student Adams, welcome to Ikelite Academy," Lanchi said as he stood up and extended his hand to Adams, his voice steady.
"Thank you for your hospitality," Adams replied, shaking Lanchi's hand sincerely.
His first impression of Lanchi was favorable; he couldn't detect any arrogance in Lanchi, only humility and approachability.
The only strange thing was that Lanchi's demeanor and manners didn't seem like those of a student, giving Adams the odd impression that he was facing a school leader representing the academy in external exchanges.
"I'm very happy to receive your invitation, but I also need to tell you beforehand that this is a friendly exchange, and I won't treat you as an enemy or resort to underhanded means to win."
Lanchi spoke sincerely to Adams.
"..."
Adams fell silent.
He understood what Lanchi meant.
While he had to admit that Lanchi was a considerate and reasonable person, if both of them didn't give it their all, it would go against his original intention for proposing this spar—
To redeem himself in front of Grand Master Julianna.
"I think we should raise the stakes to make this spar more exciting and less boring," Adams suggested.
He believed that the audience in the school wouldn't want to watch a dull and uneventful spar between two opponents without any rivalry.
"For example?" Lanchi asked, his expression a bit troubled, but out of respect for Adams, he inquired nonetheless.
"If I win, can you have Dean Lorren go to the Arloran Kingdom and have Grand Master Julianna apologize at her doorstep?" Adams asked bluntly.
Whether or not the other party agreed, he put forward his biggest demand first.
If they couldn't meet it, he could gradually compromise later.
Just as Adams thought that Lanchi would never agree to such a ridiculous proposal.
"Alright, I'll make the decision for Dean Lorren," Lanchi said, with his hands behind his back, looking every bit the principal as he nodded in assent.
Instantly, the entire conference room erupted in noise.
Especially the students who had come to watch the spectacle; they loved to see Lanchi stir up trouble!
