Chapter 184: Instant Riches (Third Update)
Chapter 184: Instant Riches (Third Update)
"Whoa, what's going on? So many!"
In a guest room in Asgard, Jerry, who had nothing to do, quietly opened his Strange Panel.
However, when he saw the red stars on his panel, he was utterly stunned.
Originally, when he returned from the Harry Potter world, his panel only had a few thousand red stars left. Over the past two days, frequent use of Superman Mode had further reduced the number.
But now, his red stars had suddenly increased by three hundred thousand.
Three hundred thousand! It would take him years to earn that much by stopping crimes in New York.
This was practically an overnight fortune!
After thinking about it for a while, Jerry finally figured out why he had so many red stars.
First, stopping the Destroyer from destroying Old Bridge Town must have earned him some red stars, though not many. After all, the residents of Old Bridge Town were few, and the Destroyer was mainly after Thor.
Second, he had instantly killed Loki, preventing the Bifrost from being used to destroy all of Jotunheim, effectively saving a world.
However, this wasn't the main reason. Even without him, Thor and Odin would have prevented Jotunheim from being destroyed. Otherwise, he wouldn't have just earned three hundred thousand red stars.
Finally, and what he believed was the most likely source of the red stars, was that his intervention prevented the Bifrost from breaking, thus avoiding chaos in the Nine Realms.
In the original story, the Bifrost was definitely supposed to break, but because of his actions, it was preserved.
Thinking about it, he realized that he worked hard every night to earn just a few red stars, but in just a few days in New Mexico, he had earned a large amount. Jerry couldn't help but sigh:
"Indeed, wherever there are superheroes, disaster is sure to follow!"
Actually, this cause-and-effect reasoning isn't correct. In reality, disasters lead to the emergence of superheroes, much like how heroes are made by the times.
But from a surface perspective, it does seem that wherever there is disaster, there are superheroes.
This realization hit Jerry hard.
If he wanted to earn a lot of red stars, he needed to keep an eye on the activities of these superheroes. They all seemed to attract trouble, and not just small problems.
For example, when he met Hulk, he earned a batch of red stars. During the robot soldier uprising, he earned another batch while working with Iron Man.
This time, being with Thor had earned him three hundred thousand red stars.
With these three hundred thousand red stars, he could now use "Mind Boost" to practice Meditation without any reservations.
Thanks to the boost from Meditation, his physical condition was already twice that of a normal human. Additionally, the side effects of "Mind Boost" had become negligible due to his long-term use of red stars.
In other words, if he wanted to, he could have "Mind Boost" active 24/7 without any side effects.
Using "Mind Boost" to enhance his learning during the day and to improve his Meditation practice at night, his strength would continue to grow rapidly.
And he could use it freely in battle, making fights much easier.
However, the number of red stars in reality is simply not enough!
One red star per minute, sixty in an hour, and a thousand four hundred and forty in a day. He still needed to save red stars for traversing Mini World, so it was far from enough.
That's why, in the past, he rarely used "Mind Boost" during his evening Meditation. Most of the time, he relied on the Merlin Ring, which, although much weaker than "Mind Boost", was still better than nothing.
But from today onward, or at least for the next six months to a year, he wouldn't have to worry about red stars anymore.
With three hundred thousand, he could use them freely for quite a while. If he was a bit more diligent and went out to gather some every day, he could always add more to his stash.
"Sorry to keep you waiting. The household matters are now settled. Odin wants to meet you to show his gratitude!"
As Jerry was looking at the Panel, planning his next training session, Thor, carrying his beloved hammer, walked into the room with a somber expression.
"My pleasure!"
Jerry, who had been prepared, stood up.
He had anticipated that Odin might want to meet him.
However, he wasn't worried. After all, he had helped Thor throughout, even helping to secure the Bifrost, Asgard's most important gateway.
Given Odin's status as the King of the Gods, even if he didn't reward him, he wouldn't make things difficult for him, right?
"What's wrong? You seem a bit down", Jerry asked, noticing Thor sighing occasionally as they made their way to Odin's Temple.
Thor sighed deeply in response.
"I just didn't expect that Loki isn't my real brother, and he's not even from Asgard. He's a Frost Giant orphan!"
"That does sound pretty dramatic!"
On the way, Jerry listened as Thor recounted what had happened during Loki's trial at Odin's Temple.
It turned out that Loki, due to his human-sized body at birth, was considered an outcast by the Frost Giants and was abandoned.
Odin, during his campaign against Jotunheim, or more accurately, when he helped the humans drive the Frost Giants back to Jotunheim, found and adopted the abandoned Loki out of pity.
"Loki, how is he now?"
Jerry, holding back his curiosity, finally asked the question that had been on his mind.
"He's doing okay. Although he committed a grave mistake, it didn't have catastrophic consequences. Odin initially planned to sentence him to permanent imprisonment in the dungeon, but due to my and Queen Mother's pleas, he was only sentenced to twenty years of solitary confinement for reflection."
Twenty years, for beings with a lifespan of five thousand years, wasn't a long time.
"The difference between permanent imprisonment and twenty years is quite significant!"
Jerry couldn't help but grin.
Clearly, Odin was planning to make an example of Loki but ultimately decided to be lenient.
However, after hearing Thor's account of Loki's background, Jerry felt something was amiss.
As the King of the Gods, Odin picking up an abandoned infant from an enemy race and raising him as his own son seemed overly deliberate. If it was out of sympathy, he could have just given Loki to a regular Asgardian family to raise.
Was Odin planning to groom Loki to become the King of the Frost Giants in the future, thereby indirectly bringing this stubborn race under his control?
If Thor, the King of Asgard, and Loki, the King of the Frost Giants, were on good terms, there would be no more wars between the Frost Giants and the Asgardians.
If that was the case, Odin was playing a very clever game indeed!
