Chapter 1832: Dark Magic Gimmick
Chapter 1832: Dark Magic Gimmick
"I’m telling you, that guy is definitely up to something!"
Watching the Beauxbatons Champion surrounded by countless girls, Daphne confided in her best friend, "You might not know, but most of the girls in this school are smitten with him. A lot of couples are breaking up because of him!"
"Even you?"
Alice glanced at the Beauxbatons Champion, who looked rather helpless, then turned to her friend.
"Even me", Daphne nodded, admitting it. "Even I have a special feeling about him. There seems to be a unique charm about him. I suspect that he—"
"There’s no need to suspect; he probably has some Siren blood in him", Alice said, noting the conflicted expression on Daphne’s face for the first time.
"But aren’t Sirens all female?" Daphne asked, surprised.
"It’s Siren blood, not a Siren", Alice corrected her. "If the mother is a Siren, their children will always be female, but the next generation can have a male with Siren blood, though the probability is much lower than for females."
"So the Beauxbatons Champion likely has a small amount of Siren blood, which explains why he stands out in appearance."
"But I mean, his charm is just too powerful", Daphne couldn’t understand it.
It was just too overwhelming.
"Looks, charisma, abilities—there are many reasons why girls are attracted to him. Now, he’s also the Beauxbatons Champion, so he’s not lacking in fame. Add to that his probable natural charm, and it’s no wonder he has a unique appeal to the girls around him." Alice wasn’t surprised at all. She had heard that Albert was once the dream lover of many girls, which was why he had so many admirers.
"What about you? Why don’t you seem affected by him?" Daphne, seeing Alice’s lack of reaction, couldn’t help but ask.
"Maybe it’s because I have a stable mindset and haven’t had any thoughts about him!" Alice casually offered an excuse.
"I thought my mindset was stable too, so why am I still affected?"
Honestly, Daphne was quite frustrated to find herself attracted to another man, especially since she believed her relationship with Alice was solid.
However, seeing that Alice wasn’t affected by that pretty boy, Daphne felt a sense of relief. She was genuinely afraid of losing Alice to someone else.
"You might have to ask yourself that. By the way, he already has a girlfriend, and she’s here too, so..." Alice noticed the crowd moving toward them and shrugged, dropping the topic.
"Oh, no way!"
A distressed voice came from beside them, and the two turned to see their companion struggling to accept this harsh reality.
"This is normal, Prewett."
"Normal?" Miss Prewett found it hard to believe.
"Very normal. Excellent men are, in a way, even rarer than excellent women. It’s only natural for someone to be interested when they first appear." Alice didn’t see any issue with it. Her parents were in a similar situation, and Ian’s stable relationship with his Siren-blooded girlfriend was partly due to this.
"I think if you wanted to, you could definitely win him over with your charm!" Prewett sized Alice up. "I think that guy could barely match up to you!"
"I don't think anything will come of it between us", Alice said coldly.
Of course, nothing would come of it.
Because the Beauxbatons Champion's full name is Matthew Delacour.
That's right, the guy is Louise's son, Alice's half-brother, and they've known each other for a long time.
However, the two of them never acted like they knew each other, let alone made any special effort to communicate. They each lived their own lives, with almost no interaction during their time at Durmstrang.
Alice's life at Durmstrang was actually quite boring. After the initial novelty wore off, everyone found it less interesting than Hogwarts.
Durmstrang's library had fewer books than Hogwarts, and the only advantage was that dark magic didn't need to be hidden here. But the dark magic you could find in the library was quite common.
As for the teaching quality at Durmstrang?
It was hard to say.
They didn't use the textbooks compiled by Albert, so the quality of teaching often depended on the professors, and Alice felt that most of them were not as good as she was.
As for the famous dark magic courses at Durmstrang, students quickly lost interest after a few experiences.
Yes, they were not much different from other courses.
The so-called dedication to dark magic education at Durmstrang was largely a myth.
In dark magic classes, students were only taught common dark spells and the history of dark magic.
The more dangerous or powerful dark magic was not taught in class or even on campus, as dangerous dark magic was strictly prohibited from being studied or misused at Durmstrang.
After all, Durmstrang is a school. Parents send their children here to learn magic, not to become Dark Wizards that everyone wants to hunt down, or to risk their lives due to some dark magic.
So, the dark magic courses at Durmstrang are just a gimmick. Graduates from here may know a bit more dark magic than those from other schools, but that's all.
What Durmstrang is truly famous for is the Dueling Club.
Durmstrang students excel in practical combat, and their champion, Alwold, is the current Dueling Club champion. It's said that he also participated in a famous dueling tournament last year and achieved excellent results.
Because of this, during the wait for the first task of the Triwizard Tournament, some unfriendly incidents occurred between students from the three schools.
For example, a Durmstrang student whose girlfriend had dumped him challenged the Beauxbatons Champion to a duel, hoping to teach the annoying pretty boy a harsh lesson.
It didn't go well.
Alice also received a duel invitation, but James firmly turned it down.
As Harry's son, James had a natural talent for dueling.
He could cast the Disarming Charm smoothly and avoided sending his opponent to the hospital like the Beauxbatons Champion did (Matthew had directly reflected his opponent's spell).
Because of the two unpleasant conflicts (which probably served as a simple test of strength), the Durmstrang headmaster quickly stepped in to stop similar duels, not giving students from other schools any chance to challenge their champion.
