Chapter 183: Quantum State Hermione
Chapter 183: Quantum State Hermione
Ivan found himself in a difficult situation. If only he knew the Obliviate spell, he could cast it twice and make them forget what just happened.
But learning it now was clearly too late.
"Reparo! Newspapers, come here!" Ivan helplessly waved the wand he had just confiscated from Lavender, first dealing with the chaos around him.
The newspapers, scattered and crumpled from the frenzy, quickly became smooth and intact under the spell's magic.
They transformed into paper butterflies, fluttering and landing neatly on Ivan's outstretched right hand, stacking up in a tidy pile.
Ivan organized the newspapers in chronological order and placed them back on the bedside table, trying to restore Hermione's previous arrangement as much as possible.
After finishing, Ivan turned his gaze to Lavender and Parvati, thinking about how to make them keep this secret.
Hesitating for a moment, Ivan placed one hand on his hip and pointed the wand at the two, threatening them fiercely.
"Listen up, the newspaper thing is a secret. You better forget it and never speak of it again! Understand?"
Lavender and Parvati pursed their lips, thinking that Hermione didn't want others to know she was secretly collecting and cutting out newspapers about Lockhart and Hals. So they didn't suspect anything.
But they clearly weren't about to give in so easily and didn’t respond.
Ivan could see their thoughts and decided to take action. He tapped the cup on the table with his wand, turning it into a groundhog that scurried around the floor.
In their puzzled gazes, Ivan grabbed the groundhog by the scruff of its neck, lifted it, and tossed it into the owl cage.
"See that? If anyone dares to mention this again, I'll turn you into a groundhog and lock you in a cage!" Ivan's gaze swept over the two young witches.
Lavender and Parvati looked at the iron cage, where the cup-turned-groundhog was frantically scratching at the bars, emitting heart-wrenching squeals.
The two young witches nodded in fear, thinking Hermione was truly terrifying.
Seeing their expressions, Ivan nodded in satisfaction. Then, as if remembering something, he added a warning.
"And, you're not to mention this to me ever again!"
Lavender and Parvati found this odd but nodded under Ivan's threatening gaze, their eyes brimming with tears. They didn't want to become groundhogs and be locked in a cage.
Ivan felt a pang of guilt, realizing he had disrupted the harmony in the Girls' Dormitory, but there was nothing he could do about it.
It was all because of the damned System Quest.
Ivan sighed. At that moment, the System's prompt sounded.
* Ding, Gryffindor common room exploration complete, current exploration progress sixty-three percent. *
Ivan paused for a moment, understanding that staying here wouldn't increase the Quest progress any further. He transformed the groundhog back into a cup, placed it back on the table, and then calmly walked out of the dormitory with his books.
Next, Ivan returned to the Room of Requirement, waiting for about an hour. The effects of the Polyjuice Potion gradually wore off.
When he saw his reflection in the mirror return to normal, Ivan let out a sigh of relief.
The physical differences while using the Polyjuice Potion to transform into Hermione had always made him feel very uncomfortable.
It's no wonder that in the original timeline, few people were willing to transform into the opposite sex.
But not long after, Ivan began to worry again. He didn't think he could hide his threat to Lavender and Parvati from Hermione. The young witch was too smart; she might notice their sudden change in attitude and guess something was amiss.
Without the ability to use the Obliviate spell, Ivan couldn't think of a better solution for the moment and had to put it aside.
He returned to the common room, feeling depressed. Harry and Ron were still playing a new game of Wizard's chess. From their expressions, it was clear that Ron had won again.
"Ivan, want to play a game? Playing with Harry is no challenge at all", Ron asked hopefully.
"Sure!" Ivan remembered what he had said to Hermione that morning and nodded in agreement.
Harry shrugged. He had lost several games in a row and didn't mind Ron's words, so he generously gave up his seat.
Sitting at the chessboard, Ivan waited for the pieces to reset and then began directing the white pieces against Ron's black army.
Although Wizard's chess looked grand, with the pieces having their own consciousness, the rules were no different from the chess he had played in his past life. This was why Ivan could quickly grasp the game.
His chess skills were honed in his previous life, playing against advanced computer AI while bored in the hospital, and occasionally challenging experts on chess apps. So dealing with the somewhat talented Ron was not a problem.
They played until noon. Just as Ivan was about to secure his seventh victory, guiding a wizard to the center to claim the final win, he saw Hermione humming a tune as she entered the room.
Ivan immediately became nervous, his mind wandering as he carelessly directed the pieces, causing his strategy to become chaotic.
Even the chess novice Harry couldn't stand it, offering advice from the side to try to turn the tide, but Ivan didn't hear any of it, his eyes following Hermione as she entered the Girls' Dormitory.
One minute, two minutes...
Ivan waited for a while, but Hermione didn't storm out to confront him.
Had she not noticed? Or hadn't she guessed it was him?
Ivan was puzzled. On the chessboard, he suffered a crushing defeat, and within minutes, the disadvantaged Ron turned the tables and defeated him.
The day passed quickly, and it was the weekend morning.
While eating breakfast in the Great Hall, Ivan kept an eye on Hermione's facial expressions. The young witch seemed no different from usual, sitting quietly and occasionally chatting with Harry and the others.
However, this time Hermione didn't bring her plate and sit next to him.
But that couldn't be taken as evidence.
Ivan was torn, feeling that the young witch in front of him had become a quantum entity, existing in a state between knowing and not knowing, only to collapse into a definitive state if he asked her.
Unable to figure it out, Ivan decided not to think about it anymore. Considering he needed to learn Animagus transformation from Professor Mcgonagall today, he hurriedly finished his breakfast and headed to the Transfiguration classroom as agreed.
Click.
Ivan opened the door and entered the Transfiguration classroom. It was empty on weekends, with desks and chairs neatly arranged. The only presence was a Tabby Cat sitting on the podium, watching him quietly.
