Chapter 182: The Power of the Eight Inner Gates Ninja
Chapter 182: The Power of the Eight Inner Gates Ninja
After a morning of training, Mu Yue said to her students, "We'll be heading to Guy's place tonight for his birthday celebration. Be sure to meet there."
This message was mainly for Kakashi, as Obito had already prepared his gift in advance.
"I have some other matters to attend to, but you are free to continue training here for the rest of the afternoon if you wish." Mu Yue was off to put on an act for Hiruzen Sarutobi.
"I wonder if she's going to prepare a gift for Guy-sensei. I wonder what it could be." Obito said, his face filled with envy.
His birthday was on the 10th of February, still over a month away, but Obito couldn't help but look forward to what gift Mu Yue would give him.
"Haha! Whatever gift Teacher Mu Yue gives, I'm sure I'll be very happy!" Might Guy laughed heartily.
He felt that Mu Yue had already treated him very well. Aside from his father, he had never met anyone as kind to him, so he didn't dare ask for more. Even if Mu Yue just wished him a happy birthday, he would be overjoyed.
"That's true, but I suppose a better gift would make one even happier," Obito mused.
If Mu Yue gave him a standard set of kunai for his birthday, he would be happy and treasure it. But if she gave him a kunai that she had crafted herself, he knew he would cherish it even more.
...
After leaving the training ground, Mu Yue headed straight for the Hokage Building.
What he had told Might Guy was true—he would have more opportunities to meet with Hiruzen Sarutobi due to special circumstances. However, Mu Yue also wanted to increase the credibility of his story.
Normally, it would be more convenient to find Hiruzen Sarutobi at the Hokage Building rather than at his home, especially since it wasn't yet evening, when visiting his residence would be more appropriate.
Knock knock!
Mu Yue knocked on the door of the Hokage's office.
"Come in," came Hiruzen Sarutobi's voice from within.
"Greetings, Third Hokage-sama," Mu Yue said respectfully as he entered.
"Ah, Mu Yue, what brings you here?" Hiruzen Sarutobi asked, removing the pipe from his mouth and exhaling a cloud of white smoke.
"Hokage-sama, I've discovered a ninja in Konoha whose strength far surpasses his current rank. He possesses extraordinary abilities, yet he remains a genin," Mu Yue said gravely.
"A genin with exceptional abilities?" A figure immediately sprang to Hiruzen Sarutobi's mind.
"Is it the ninja who carries a pot on his back?" Hiruzen Sarutobi inquired after a moment's thought.
When it came to ninjas with exceptional strength who had remained genin, the first person he thought of was Maroshi Kosei.
Maroshi Kosei was a veteran ninja whose skills and contributions had long ago reached the level of a jonin. However, due to some past incidents, he had developed some psychological shadows, causing him to repeatedly refuse promotions.
Hiruzen Sarutobi held Maroshi Kosei in high regard and had even taught him his self-created A-rank ninjutsu, the Shuriken Shadow Clone Technique.
"No, if I had to describe his features, I'd say he has thick eyebrows and wears a green bodysuit," Mu Yue shook his head.
"Could it be Might Dai?" As Mu Yue described, a new image formed in Hiruzen Sarutobi's mind.
Might Dai was somewhat known in Konoha, albeit for his less-than-stellar reputation.
Mu Yue nodded and explained, "I discovered this by chance because his son, Might Guy, is interning with me. It was a coincidence that led me to uncover Might Dai's true strength."
This was the reason Mu Yue had waited to begin his internship before taking this step. With such an identity, the process of adaptation became more reasonable and convincing.
"He has mastered a powerful taijutsu called the Eight Inner Gates. When he unleashes its full power, even I am no match for him.
"It's understandable that you don't know about it, as the Eight Inner Gates is a forbidden technique within the sealed scrolls," Hiruzen Sarutobi explained.
Hiruzen Sarutobi paused for a moment, taking a few puffs on his pipe before continuing, "This forbidden technique has existed since the Warring States period, and its power is incredibly fearsome. The Second Hokage once gathered a group of individuals in an attempt to create a team of ninjas capable of utilizing the Eight Inner Gates, and Might Dai was among them."
While Hiruzen Sarutobi had not witnessed the power of the Eight Inner Gates ninjas firsthand, he had seen the training methods, which could be described as an extreme test of one's physical strength and endurance.
If it weren't for the fact that Tobirama Senju's Eight Gates team project had failed so completely, he would have wanted to attempt something similar himself.
Tobirama Senju had initiated many innovations, such as the Ninja Academy and the ANBU, but not all of his endeavors had been successful. The Eight Gates project was one of his most notable failures.
It had wasted resources and manpower, and in the end, not a single successful practitioner had emerged.
"I never expected that after all these years, he wouldn't give up and would actually succeed," Hiruzen Sarutobi remarked with a hint of admiration.
"Shadow Clone Jutsu!"
Hiruzen Sarutobi performed a series of hand seals and created a shadow clone of himself.
"If Might Dai has truly mastered the Eight Inner Gates, then his status as a genin is no longer appropriate. He should be promoted to chunin," Hiruzen Sarutobi stated.
For the Third Hokage, the fact that Might Dai had successfully cultivated the Eight Inner Gates was already a significant achievement. It proved that the concept of an Eight Gates team was feasible.
However, Hiruzen Sarutobi needed to see it for himself; he couldn't rely solely on Mu Yue's report.
It wasn't that he doubted Mu Yue's integrity, but rather, he wanted to assess the situation personally. After all, even his own teacher had desired to obtain a ninja with the Eight Inner Gates.
Watching Hiruzen Sarutobi create a shadow clone without hesitation, Mu Yue thought to himself that the allure of an Eight Gates ninja was indeed strong. Without even waiting for Might Dai to arrive, the Third Hokage had already sent a clone to accompany him.
Hiruzen Sarutobi's shadow clone arrived at an empty training ground, while Mu Yue went to fetch Might Dai to test his abilities.
Thanks to Mu Yue's advance warning, Might Dai had been waiting at home, and Mu Yue found him without any difficulty.
"Let's go. The Third Hokage wants to personally assess your strength, Dai-senpai. Show him your full power," Mu Yue instructed.
"No problem! I'm always ready to burn my youth!" Might Dai exclaimed enthusiastically, giving Mu Yue a thumbs-up and flashing his brilliant white teeth.
At that moment, Might Dai's heart was filled with excitement. After so many decades, he had almost resigned himself to being a genin forever, but now, he had been presented with this unexpected opportunity.
"Also, Dai-senpai, try not to discuss my abilities with the Third Hokage," Mu Yue reminded him, concerned that Might Dai might accidentally reveal something he shouldn't.
While Might Dai was aware of Mu Yue's strength, he didn't know the full extent of it, and it wasn't something that could be easily demonstrated at this point.
"Don't worry, I understand," Might Dai assured him, nodding.
He didn't know why Mu Yue wanted him to keep his strength a secret, but he respected Mu Yue's decision and was willing to help.
With Mu Yue leading the way, the two of them made their way to the training ground where Hiruzen Sarutobi's shadow clone was waiting.
