Chapter 182: Outrageous to the Extreme
Chapter 182: Outrageous to the Extreme
The dim, dark corridor seemed as quiet as ever, yet there was an odd pause in the air.
Sherlock reached out and casually grabbed a smooth, soft Invisibility Cloak. As the Cloak fell, a figure emerged from the shadows.
Eddie looked at Sherlock, who was still under the Disillusionment Charm, hidden in the night.
"How did you guess?"
Sherlock shrugged.
"How did I know? Your face at the end of the trial looked like you were attending a funeral. Do you think I wouldn't guess what you were planning?"
Eddie fell silent, shaking his head.
"Are you trying to stop me?"
"Why would I stop you?" Though Eddie couldn't see his face, Sherlock raised an eyebrow. "You're avenging a friend and punishing the wicked. If I stopped you, wouldn't I be joining the villains?"
Eddie stared at the direction Sherlock was standing. If Sherlock wasn't trying to stop him, there was only one other possibility.
"Our relationship isn't that close, is it?"
"True, we can call each other friends, but if we were just ordinary friends, we wouldn't be here."
Sherlock smirked.
"But as an irresponsible father, I have to think about Amy. Are you going to just sneak in with an Invisibility Cloak? What will happen to Amy if you're caught? Do you want me to raise her for the rest of my life?"
Eddie said somberly.
"I've never been a good father. Amy can live well without me. Even if I'm caught, I'll just be imprisoned for a few years, nothing worse."
Sherlock kicked him, frustrated.
"I don't understand how your mind works. Knowing you're not a good father, why continue being one? How can you be fair to your subordinates but not to Amy?"
"So you do want to stop me?" Eddie's face showed a struggle.
"I just don't want you to be so foolish. At least be a bit more flexible before you do something."
"I'm prepared."
"Your preparation is just this Invisibility Cloak?" Sherlock said disdainfully. "For an Auror, you don't even know how to commit a crime properly."
Eddie's face darkened.
"Why should an Auror know how to commit a crime?"
Sherlock ignored his dissatisfaction and pulled out two bottles of flesh-colored, jelly-like substances from his bag.
"An Invisibility Cloak alone won't be enough. Even if you get away, the Ministry of Magic will still have a large target on you. Many people saw your reaction at the trial, so we need to be more prepared."
"This is my uncle's masterpiece. He's a professional potion master. Just apply a small patch of this potion to your face, and you can transform into anyone. Compared to the Polyjuice Potion, the advantage is that you don't need the person's hair, and it remains effective indefinitely. The downside is that it only changes your face, not the rest of your body."
Sherlock's current appearance was the result of this potion. The formula was Snape's private recipe, and he was the only one in the magical world who knew how to make it. Sherlock had recently begged a few bottles from him, and they were useful now.
Eddie took the bottle from Sherlock.
"Are you planning to frame someone else?"
"Use your brain, even if it's as dense as wood. Who else would want Algernon dead besides you?"
Eddie wasn't a fool.
"You mean, disguise ourselves as Death Eaters?"
"Let's make an assumption", Sherlock said. "If we exclude you, who is most likely to kill Algernon right now?"
Eddie murmured.
"The Death Eaters have the most reason and motive, but they can't infiltrate the Ministry of Magic. If the Ministry's defenses were that weak, the Death Eaters would have taken over long ago."
Sherlock patted his shoulder.
"I know it's unlikely that the Death Eaters would actually come to the Ministry to kill Algernon, so we need to guide the Aurors' investigation."
Eddie's expression was conflicted.
"Wouldn't that put more pressure on the Ministry?"
"You're such a good person! Even now, you're worried about causing trouble for others." Sherlock poured the potion on his face. "If you really think it's a problem, you shouldn't have come in the first place."
Eddie, hearing Sherlock's words, gritted his teeth and poured the potion on his face.
"Who should we pretend to be?"
"Who do you think is the most ruthless among the Death Eaters?"
"Definitely Bella, that crazy woman! But since we can't change our bodies, we would be easily discovered if we became a woman."
"Ugh, if you want to cross-dress, go ahead. I'll transform into Karkaroff; he's about my height."
Eddie finally chose Bella's husband, Rodolphus Lestrange.
The two figures, keeping their heads hidden, continued down the corridor.
"Have you found out where Algernon is being held today?"
"Cell 3. Tris and Dawle are guarding him."
"Excellent. We're well-prepared. Before we deal with them, we need to make sure they see our faces accidentally. Remember to look vicious, just like real Death Eaters."
However, as they approached Cell 3, they discovered that the door was not locked. At the same time, a shocked voice echoed from inside.
"Why! You—!"
Before he could finish his sentence, the sound of a body hitting the ground rang out again!
Sherlock and Eddie both frowned.
Eddie pulled the Disillusionment Charm-enchanted Sherlock under his Invisibility Cloak and, with extremely light steps, they entered the cell.
The room was brightly lit, and on the floor lay two unconscious Aurors.
They were clearly Tris and Dawle, the Aurors assigned to guard Algernon!
Soft music played in the cell, and a long table in the center was laden with food.
Algernon was cowering in the corner, trembling in fear as he watched the two black-robed figures who had burst in and knocked out the Aurors with spells.
"Go lock the door."
One of the men, whose face was not covered by his robe, spoke coldly.
At this moment, Sherlock and Eddie, who had infiltrated the cell, were completely stunned.
The man with the exposed face was none other than another Eddie!
His height, appearance, and every external feature were identical to Eddie's, except for the cruel and venomous look in his eyes, which Eddie did not possess.
Under the Invisibility Cloak, Sherlock and Eddie exchanged a bewildered glance.
Neither of them spoke, continuing to observe the situation unfold.
Algernon was now terrified, but it seemed he had been silenced by a spell, preventing him from making any sound.
"Eddie" waved his wand, casting a spell to seal the room from the outside, then removed the spell on Algernon.
"Butler", Algernon did not shout but stammered out Eddie's surname.
He knew that "Eddie" had sealed all the sounds in the room, so even if he screamed, no one would hear him.
"You don't recognize me after just a few days, Taft?"
The effects of the Polyjuice Potion on "Eddie" wore off at just the right moment, revealing his true face.
Seeing that familiar face, Algernon's eyes widened in shock!
Sherlock and Eddie, hidden under the Invisibility Cloak, were just as stunned.
Sherlock turned his head, his gaze strange as he looked at Eddie's fake face, then through the gap in the Invisibility Cloak at the real Rodolphus Lestrange. At that moment, only one thought ran through his mind.
This is absolutely ridiculous!
He and Eddie had planned to disguise themselves as Rodolphus to kill Algernon, and now Rodolphus himself had come, disguised as Eddie!
At the same time, the other Death Eater with a hat also revealed his true face.
This time, it was not the Karkaroff that Sherlock was pretending to be; it was Rodolphus's brother, Rabastan.
Algernon's shock quickly turned to joy.
"Rodolphus, Rabastan! How did you get into the Ministry of Magic! Are you here to rescue me? Thank the Dark Lord! Thank his mercy!"
However, neither of the Lestrange brothers moved. They exchanged a glance, and a cold smirk appeared on both their faces.
"Yes, you should thank the Dark Lord's mercy, Taft. We brothers volunteered for this mission, coming here to see you one last time."
Algernon sensed something was wrong from their tone. His face turned pale, and his emotions roller-coastered from joy to despair within minutes.
"What do you mean?"
Rodolphus's face was cold as he stared at him.
"I have a question I've always wanted to ask you, but our collegial relationship prevented me from doing so before. Today, I finally have the opportunity, Taft."
His voice was low and menacing, like a venomous scorpion lurking in the dark.
"In March, when Bella told me about a task the Dark Lord had assigned, involving the use of my family's vault, was the eavesdropper you?"
Algernon's pupils dilated in shock!
But he forced an innocent expression on his face.
"What are you talking about? What task did the Dark Lord assign? Why would I eavesdrop?"
Rabastan, impatient, drew his wand and pointed it at Algernon, who was now terrified and desperate.
"No! Don't! Don't! I'm telling the truth! No!"
"Soul Separation!"
