Chapter 182: I Shouldn't Be Telling You This
Chapter 182: I Shouldn't Be Telling You This
There was nothing easy about Hogwarts, except perhaps for the Quidditch match where Hufflepuff effortlessly eliminated Ravenclaw.
As Cedric caught the Golden Snitch, the Ravenclaw students in the stands fell into a stunned silence. They sat there, dejected and speechless.
Professor Flitwick had stopped by midway through the game but had left after a few minutes, clutching his chest.
In less than half an hour, the score was three hundred and twenty to zero...
Despite being accustomed to consistently poor performances in Quidditch, such a huge margin of defeat was difficult for them to accept.
Especially glaring on the scoreboard was that glaring "0"! Even scoring a single goal would have helped...
"Cedric, why were you flying so fast!"
Kyle muttered as they returned to the ground, "We were already winning; it didn't matter if we caught the Snitch or not."
"I had to keep an eye on the Snitch at all times. When would I have had the time to pay attention to the score?" Cedric shot Kyle a annoyed glance and grit his teeth. "And have you ever seen a game where they let the Snitch just fly? Giving up on the Snitch is like giving up on honor. No Seeker would ever do that!"
"On the contrary, I looked away for a moment, and it was already seventeen to zero!
This score is a bit too exaggerated, isn't it? Couldn't you have eased up a bit... Come on, do you guys still want to take the Curse class?"
"I wasn't paying attention either..." Kyle said with a bitter face. "It's just that it went so smoothly that by the time I remembered, the game was over."
The two looked at each other and sighed simultaneously.
In the days that followed, the atmosphere in Ravenclaw was at an all-time low. Their previously decent relationship with Hufflepuff had taken a turn for the worse.
Although there were no physical altercations, the tension between the two houses was palpable.
Even when Hufflepuff students tried to initiate a friendly greeting, they would turn away as if they hadn't heard, their heads held high.
During this tense period, Kyle and Cedric spent their days avoiding Autumn, feeling too embarrassed to even speak to her.
However, Autumn herself didn't seem to mind too much, and whatever residual disappointment she felt after the match slowly dissipated.
In her opinion, Hufflepuff had won fairly, and their loss was simply due to their own lack of skill.
After a Transfiguration class, Autumn watched as Kyle, who was about to sprint out of the classroom, hesitated. She rolled her eyes and called out, "Hey, Kyle!"
"Err..."
Kyle froze in his tracks and stiffly turned his head as if just noticing her. "Oh, it's you, Autumn... Cough, I didn't realize you were here too."
Amused by his poor excuse, Autumn shook her head and took a deep breath. "I forgot to take notes during class. Can I borrow yours to copy?"
"Of course, no problem." Kyle quickly handed over a black notebook.
"Feel free to take a look. You can return it whenever you want... or not at all, if you prefer."
"Thanks." Autumn took the notebook.
Kyle smiled awkwardly. "No problem. Really."
After Kyle left, Autumn casually slipped the notebook into the back of her textbook.
As a Ravenclaw, she hadn't actually forgotten to take notes; she was simply using it as an excuse to prevent Kyle and Cedric from overthinking things and acting as if they were avoiding a mysterious person.
Watching Kyle's noticeably relaxed demeanor, Autumn rolled her eyes and sighed, "Men, so foolish.
On the other side, Kyle shared the incident with Cedric during lunch in the Great Hall before leaving the castle and heading towards the Forbidden Forest.
Dumbledore had successfully healed Fluffy the day before.
Kyle had also checked on the forbidden area.
As soon as he entered, Fluffy rushed over excitedly, its three massive heads jostling for attention in his arms, showing no signs of the torment it had endured from the Dark magic, its fears seemingly forgotten...
Perhaps this was one of the perks of having a lower intellect.
This time, Kyle wanted to check on Hagrid's situation.
After all, while Fluffy was being treated, Hagrid had stationed himself at the entrance of the forbidden area, not allowing anyone to come near, and he had barely eaten during that time.
The food Kyle had sent over these past few days had been left untouched.
Kyle estimated that if Dumbledore had acted any slower, the illusions Fluffy experienced would have likely become reality.
When Kyle arrived at the hut, Hagrid was brewing something. He had lost weight, but his spirits seemed high.
"Kyle, you're here!" Hagrid greeted him warmly.
"Just finished class, thought I'd drop by and see how you're doing," Kyle said with a smile. "Are you making lunch?"
As he spoke, he peered into the pot.
But he immediately regretted it.
The pot contained a soup of very peculiar color—a brown base with hints of red and a purplish tinge.
Occasionally, a few bubbles surfaced, and as Kyle leaned in, a strong putrid smell assaulted his nostrils.
"Hagrid, are you... making a potion?" Kyle asked, suspicious.
After all, he had only seen liquids of such color and viscosity in Potions class.
Or more accurately... in Michel's crucible.
"Potion? Of course not, I don't know how to brew those," Hagrid shook his head. "This is for Fluffy. It has dragon blood, dragon liver... all his favorites.
The poor little guy must've been terrified these past few days, so I have to make sure he gets his strength back."
Hearing that it was for Fluffy, Kyle didn't say anything more.
Judging by the three-headed dog's taste, this failed potion... well, stew, was indeed a feast.
Hagrid stirred the pot with a large spoon a couple of times and then brought over some rock cakes and tea, setting them in front of Kyle.
"Fluffy's doing just fine. He's as lively as ever, and there's nothing better than that."
Hagrid wiped the corner of his eye. "That poor little guy, if I ever find out who used Dark magic on him, I'll never forgive them!"
As he spoke, Hagrid crushed the rock cake in his hand, the larger crumbs flying into the pot and making a series of clinking sounds.
Kyle forced a laugh. Perhaps only Hagrid would refer to a monstrous, ten-foot-tall three-headed dog as a "little guy"...
Ignoring Hagrid's choice of words, Kyle asked curiously, "Has Professor Dumbledore not found out who did that yet?"
"No."
Hagrid sighed. "But he will. There's nothing that happens at Hogwarts that Dumbledore doesn't know about. Otherwise, he wouldn't have placed the Sorcerer's Stone in... oh, I shouldn't be telling you this."
