Chapter 181: The Silver Giant
Chapter 181: The Silver Giant
Outside the Tower of the Stars.
On a slope a thousand meters away, Kui gazed at the towering spire and the crowd surrounding it, sighing deeply with worry.
It had been over two years since he was suddenly expelled from the Tower of the Stars.
No matter how they besieged the defensive array, they could never penetrate the seemingly thin, invisible barrier. All they could do was stand outside, watching helplessly.
During this long period, the Tower of the Stars remained eerily quiet.
There was no sign of Su Nan.
As time passed, Kui's concern grew even more intense.
The Star League had repeatedly sent messengers urging him to return and take charge of the battle, but Kui ignored them, insisting on waiting here.
He knew very well that without the support of the Star League, the Star Principality would not be able to hold onto the territories it had taken from the Azure Golden Empire, no matter how tempting they were.
And Su Nan was the soul of the Star League. Without him, the League would crumble.
Besides, Su Nan was his only brother.
Behind Kui, Scepter, Traveler, and Rose stood shoulder to shoulder, their brows furrowed as they gazed at the distant Tower of the Stars.
"Has Su Nan really run into trouble? He's been in there for so long," Traveler said, frowning.
Scepter and Rose remained silent, unable to answer.
The situation with the Tower of the Stars was truly bizarre.
If it were all right, the key should have worked, and they should have been able to enter. Yet, it didn't, and any attacks on the tower were met with no response.
If it were in trouble, the defensive array should have failed by now. But it had been running for over two years, withstood countless attacks from wizard apprentices, and still hadn't collapsed. This indicated that the energy system of the Tower of the Stars was functioning normally.
This strange situation was driving everyone up the wall.
If it weren't for the hope of advancing to the rank of a wizard, they would have left long ago, rather than wasting over two years here.
"What could be happening inside?" Scepter asked, his eyes filled with confusion.
The members of the Council of Truth were equally perplexed.
Mavitch's gaze was fixed on the Tower of the Stars, his face a mask of barely contained anxiety and frustration.
Over two years had passed, and his patience was wearing thin.
Anyone who had spent two years attacking the Tower of the Stars every day, with no hope of breaking through, would be in a foul mood.
"Is continuing like this really going to work?" Mavitch asked, his face dark. "There must be an elemental pool inside the Tower, continuously supplying energy to the defensive array. Unless we can deal a damage that exceeds its limits in an instant, we won't break through no matter how long we keep attacking!"
Fabio, expressionless, replied, "Do you want to give up on the Tower of the Stars?"
Mavitch's eyes twitched, and he was speechless.
How could he give up?
It was his only hope of advancing to the rank of a wizard!
If he missed this chance, he would have to wait another twenty years. Would he even live that long?
Even if he did, by then, he would have little time left in his life. Even if he found a way to advance, he wouldn't have enough time to achieve it.
If that weren't the case, he wouldn't have persisted this long, knowing the slim chances of breaking through the defensive array.
The Tower of the Stars was now his only chance!
This was also the mindset of the other members of the Council of Truth.
"Don't be so pessimistic," Mergison said, drawing everyone's attention.
"The Tower of the Stars is only supposed to exist in the material world for three months, but it has far exceeded that time. Something must be wrong inside."
Many people instinctively looked at Evans.
Evans nodded. "That's true. The last time the Tower of the Stars appeared, it disappeared after three months."
Seeing Mavitch about to speak, he quickly added, "But I don't know much. The current state of the Tower is a mystery to me as well."
Mavitch snorted. "This must have something to do with Su Nan!"
"Has that guy really died inside?" someone asked.
Many people nodded instinctively.
The trials within the Tower of the Stars undoubtedly involved combat, as Evans' experience confirmed.
Su Nan might have died in one of those combats.
"If that's the case, he's gotten off easy," Mavitch said bitterly.
He was extremely angry at the one responsible for this unexpected situation.
If Su Nan had died in the Tower, that would be one thing. But if he survived and came out, Mavitch would not let him off!
"Enough talk. It's time to act," Mergison said, interrupting their conversation and walking toward the Tower of the Stars.
The others, though reluctant, got up and followed.
Now, their only hope lay in the possibility that the defensive magic array of the Tower of Stars might malfunction after prolonged, high-intensity operation, giving them a chance to breach the tower.
As the Council of Truth began their daily assault, the surrounding apprentice wizards immediately retreated to a safe distance.
At first, they would have joined forces with the Council of Truth to besiege the Tower of Stars.
However, over the past few months, the temperamental Mevish had vented his frustrations by finding excuses to eliminate a few apprentice wizards. No one dared to approach them anymore, fearing they might become collateral damage.
The more timid had already left, but many others, driven by a glimmer of hope, stayed behind, waiting for an opportunity to seize the chaos.
The Council of Truth paid no mind to these minor players, considering them mere ants that could be crushed at will. If any of them dared to entertain improper thoughts, they would face ruthless retribution!
As Mageissen and his group approached the Tower of Stars, they prepared to release their spells as usual. Suddenly, a thunderous boom echoed from above, drawing their attention upward.
To their shock, the top of the Tower of Stars exploded, and amidst the flying debris, a figure shot out, pausing briefly in mid-air before descending slowly.
"Su Nan!" Evans exclaimed, eyes wide with surprise.
Mevish, initially startled, quickly turned to elation, a sinister grin spreading across his face.
"That guy's still alive! Perfect!"
At the same moment, Koi, Cane, and the others spotted Su Nan and flew over.
"Su Nan!"
Koi led the way, his face beaming with joy as he rushed to Su Nan, examining him closely. Seeing that Su Nan was unharmed, he breathed a sigh of relief.
Cane couldn't wait to ask, "Su Nan, what happened inside? Why did you only come out now?"
Cane and Rosemary exchanged questioning glances, eager to understand what had transpired within the Tower of Stars.
Just as Su Nan was about to speak, he caught a glimpse of the Council of Truth charging toward him, surrounding him and his friends.
Cane's expression darkened, and he said sternly, "Mevish, what are you planning?"
"That's for us to ask!" Mevish sneered, his eyes locked on Su Nan. "What did you do? Why did the Tower of Stars expel us all out?"
Su Nan ignored him and turned to Koi, "Have you been waiting here all this time?"
Koi nodded, "How could I leave without you?"
Despite being surrounded by the notorious Council of Truth, Su Nan remained calm, his demeanor composed as he inquired about the events that followed.
This calmness only infuriated the Council of Truth, especially Mevish, whose eyes blazed with unhidden malice.
"Since you won't talk, I'll extract your soul and question it myself!"
Two years of waiting had pushed Mevish to the brink of frustration. Now, Su Nan's disregard for their presence was the final straw. Without hesitation, Mevish attacked.
In the blink of an eye, Mevish's head swelled and transformed into a massive, grotesque shark's head, its mouth filled with razor-sharp teeth. It lunged at Su Nan with a ferocious bite.
But faster than Mevish was a streak of silver light that shot from Su Nan's brow, piercing through the air and the layers of defense without resistance. It entered the shark's head and exited from the back, leaving a trail of warm blood.
Mevish staggered a few steps forward, then collapsed with a thud, his head reverting to its original form.
Silence!
A deathly silence!
Everyone stared in disbelief and shock.
In a single move, a powerful third-level apprentice wizard had been instantly killed?
Was this a dream?
Mageissen was the first to recover, his face pale as he rallied his companions.
"Attack!"
As he spoke, countless streams of blood shot from his pores, rapidly forming a massive, blood-red claw that sliced through the air with a deafening whist, aiming for Su Nan.
The rest of the Council of Truth, snapping out of their stupor, joined the assault.
Koi and the others tensed, ready to defend and counterattack.
But before they could move, a layer of silver light enveloped them, shielding them from harm.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
A kaleidoscope of magical and elemental energies engulfed the area, kicking up clouds of dust.
Despite their attacks hitting their mark, Mageissen and his group showed no signs of joy, instead preparing for the next wave of assault.
Mevish's strength had been among the top three in the Council of Truth, yet he had been easily dispatched by Su Nan. This left them in awe and wary of underestimating Su Nan's power.
Many in the crowd were struck by a startling thought, but they quickly dismissed it subconsciously.
Su Nan had only spent a little over two years in the Tower of the Stars; it was impossible for him to have taken the final step so soon!
A gust of wind scattered the dust, revealing the scene inside.
Under the sunlight, a massive silver hemisphere gleamed, its surface flowing like liquid.
"What is this?" a wizard apprentice couldn't help but exclaim.
In the next moment, the silver hemisphere suddenly distorted and transformed, revealing the figures of Kui and the others.
They stood there in a daze, still shocked from what had just happened. Their eyes were fixed on the silver metallic liquid that gathered around Su Nan, enveloping him in layers, forming a shimmering silver mass in an instant.
The silver mass shot upward like a cannonball, expanding rapidly like an inflated balloon. In a heartbeat, it transformed into a terrifying giant over a hundred meters tall, entirely silver and radiant.
The sunlight reflected off the silver giant, casting a vast shadow over the area where the members of the Council of Truth stood.
At that moment, Megison and the others felt a chill deep within their souls, their spines trembling as if they were facing a being far superior to them.
Before they could make sense of it, a violent roar echoed in their ears.
The silver giant raised its arm high and swung a massive fist toward them. The enormous fist, like a meteor, caused a deafening roar as it crashed through the air!
Despite its massive, bulky appearance and seemingly slow speed, the fist appeared in front of them in an instant.
One wizard apprentice didn't even have time to react before being hit.
Shields, energy particle defenses, and magical items crumbled like paper, offering no resistance. They shattered instantly under the fist's impact.
The moment the fist touched him, the apprentice was blasted into a cloud of blood mist!
The fist paused for a moment, then defied the laws of physics, swerving to strike another apprentice.
Punch!
Another crimson blood flower bloomed!
Slash!
A massive blood blade suddenly cleaved the air, striking the silver giant's wrist.
With a sharp squeak, the giant's hand was severed at the wrist, falling to the ground and instantly transforming into a pool of silver liquid.
But in the next instant, the liquid rose from the ground, forming a vast, sky-obscuring curtain that engulfed Megison, who couldn't dodge in time. The liquid then surged back.
When the silver liquid reformed into a hand on the giant's wrist, Megison was tightly gripped within it.
Feeling the overwhelming pressure from all sides, Megison's eyes filled with despair, his face contorted with disbelief and envy.
If he had any doubts before, he was now certain that Su Nan had indeed ascended to the rank of a full-fledged wizard!
Only a full-fledged wizard could suppress him so effortlessly!
But he couldn't accept it!
Su Nan had clearly received a fortuitous encounter in the Tower of the Stars, allowing him to ascend to wizard status.
If he hadn't been expelled and had completed the trial to receive the inheritance reward, he would have broken through as well.
He was so close to achieving that long-desired realm!
To die like this, he couldn't bear it!
"Ah!!!"
The intense pain made Megison let out a blood-curdling scream.
As the silver giant's hand clenched, the Council of Truth's chairman burst into a cloud of blood mist, filled with jealousy, despair, and regret.
The deaths of three of their companions made the remaining members of the Council of Truth realize the danger. Without a word, they turned and fled.
But before they could run far, the silver giant exploded, showering the area with countless silver metal spikes that rained down like a storm!
Pierce, pierce, pierce!
Fabio, Evans, and the others were simultaneously impaled by the metal spikes, their defenses offering no protection.
In an instant, over a dozen third-level wizard apprentices were killed, the entire group wiped out.
The metal spikes circled in the air and returned, merging back into Su Nan's body and vanishing.
Silence returned, so profound that a pin drop could be heard.
Kui and the others, along with the distant wizard apprentices, stood there in shock, their mouths dry and minds blank.
