Chapter 181: A Debut Cut Short, A One-Sided Match
Chapter 181: A Debut Cut Short, A One-Sided Match
"It was amazing...I can't believe Harry Potter actually caught the Golden Snitch with his mouth in the end."
"There's no doubt that Potter is an exceptional Seeker. I thought Gryffindor would lose when his broom malfunctioned..."
"Mark my words, Gryffindor will win the Quidditch Cup this year!"
...
Inside the castle, everyone was excitedly discussing what had just transpired during the match.
Kyle made his way through the crowd without a word and returned to the Hufflepuff common room, where he found Cedric and Connor.
As soon as they met, Cedric asked eagerly, "What happened? Why are you just getting back now, and what's the deal with that phoenix..."
"The phoenix belongs to Professor Dumbledore; let's say it's his pet," Kyle explained. "It usually stays in his office, so you rarely get to see it."
Connor thought about it and said, "So the Headmaster was looking for you earlier?"
"Yeah."
Kyle glanced around and quietly filled them in on what had happened in the forbidden section.
"The three-headed dog went berserk..."
Cedric unconsciously exclaimed, then realized what he was doing and quickly covered his mouth.
"Are you serious?"
"Of course," Kyle said. "Otherwise, why would I have missed the match and only returned now?"
"But who would do such a thing?" Cedric asked, puzzled. "What benefit is there in casting a Confundus Charm and Dark Magic on the dog?"
"I don't know..." Kyle shook his head. "Professor Dumbledore hasn't had time to investigate yet."
As he said this, a thought suddenly occurred to him—it had to be Quirrell.
The forbidden section, Fluffy guarding the Philosopher's Stone... This incident was definitely related to him, but Kyle couldn't fathom what his motive could be.
If the goal was to get through the trapdoor, there was clearly no need to anger Fluffy, as that would only make things more complicated.
Moreover, if Fluffy escaped, Hogwarts would likely be forced to close, and by then, he would lose any chance of obtaining the Philosopher's Stone.
It made no sense...
"Anyway, it's best if we stay away from the forbidden section for now," said Cedric, still shaken by the image of the three-headed dog. "If you must go to the fourth floor, try to avoid that area."
"There's no need to be that cautious," Kyle reassured him. "Professor Dumbledore is handling it. Just be careful and don't go looking for trouble."
After hearing Kyle out, Cedric and Connor's mood for discussing Quidditch had dissipated. The three of them soon parted ways.
It was only after Kyle had left that Cedric suddenly remembered something he had forgotten to ask.
Why would the Headmaster call for Kyle instead of Professor McGonagall for such a dangerous task? Could it be because Kyle had been studying under Mr. Scamander and also had knowledge of the three-headed dog? Cedric looked up.
However, by then, Kyle had already left the common room, and Cedric had no opportunity to ask him.
For the next period, Kyle did not return, even during mealtimes.
And no one knew where he was, as if he had vanished into thin air.
It was only on the afternoon of the next day, just before the match, that Cedric saw Kyle again in the changing room.
He was holding his broom and talking to Harris.
"Good, Kyle," Harris said with a smile, patting him on the shoulder. "I thought you'd be too nervous to sleep, so I even prepared a Stimulating Potion for you."
After a brief pep talk from Harris, the team checked their brooms and attire once more before heading out to the pitch in a line.
More than half of the seats were empty, with only Professor McGonagall and Professor Snape in attendance, while the others were noticeably absent.
It seemed that the professors must have also learned about Rogue's situation... Kyle thought as he made his way out to the center of the pitch with the rest of his team.
After a few customary words of caution from Madam Hooch, she blew her whistle sharply.
Fifteen brooms soared into the air, ascending high into the sky.
"It's Hufflepuff's Kyle! He's the first to go after the Quaffle!"
Lee Jordan shouted excitedly from the commentary box, "He's a new addition to the team this year, and by all accounts, he achieved an incredible score during the tryouts. But will he be able to replicate that performance in an official match... Oh, he's passing to Captain Harris..."
For some reason, Lee Jordan suddenly turned serious.
There were some dissatisfied murmurs from the stands... This wasn't the entertaining commentary they had come to expect.
But Lee Jordan ignored the reactions and pressed on.
He had, after all, just spent the entire previous night copying out 'A Beginner's Guide to Quidditch Commentary' under Professor McGonagall's supervision, from the end of the match right up until the early hours of the morning, nearly dying in the process.
It had only been one night, so he had to be a little more restrained today.
"As we all know, Hufflepuff's Harris is one of the best Chasers around, and his combination with Kyle... Oh my goodness! What is this?! It's a dual-pronged attack! The Ravenclaw Keeper misjudged and went for the wrong player, and now the Quaffle is in Kyle's hands... He scores! Hufflepuff takes the lead! Less than ten seconds into the game... They've set a new record for the fastest goal!"
The stands erupted in cheers, with many spectators jumping to their feet and celebrating wildly.
"Well done!"
On the pitch, Harris flew back and gave Kyle a quick, congratulatory slap on the shoulder.
"Perfect coordination..." Lee Jordan marveled. "Ravenclaw is in trouble."
And just as he predicted, the rest of the match was completely dominated by Kyle and Harris.
They played like emotionless scoring machines, relentlessly throwing Quaffle after Quaffle through the goalposts.
The Ravenclaw Beaters tried to intervene, but Hufflepuff was one step ahead, ensuring the Bludgers never got close to Kyle and Harris.
In just half an hour, the score had reached a ridiculous margin.
Hufflepuff: 170
Ravenclaw: 0
Even Lee Jordan himself felt a bit numb by the end, and his commentary for Ravenclaw carried an unintentional tone of sympathy.
"Poor Wisner... Just like the Chadley Cannonballs' Keeper from years ago, he's been completely outclassed... I really hope he can hold on."
It was at this moment that Kyle and Harris realized they might have gone a bit too far.
Harris shot an apologetic glance at the dejected Ravenclaw Keeper and silently signaled to Kyle.
Kyle nodded in understanding.
They decided to ease up and let Ravenclaw score a few goals.
But just then...
"Wait a minute, is that the Golden Snitch?"
A golden streak suddenly appeared below the pitch, and both Cedric and Autumn accelerated, flying side by side as they dove rapidly towards the ground.
However, Cedric's broom was noticeably faster, and he reached the ground first.
"I've caught the Snitch!" he exclaimed, raising his arms high, a golden glint visible between his fingers.
The match was over...
