Chapter 1808: A War Without Winners (Part 258)
Watching the group of Aurors rushing towards the entrance of Azkaban Prison, Harry, who had fallen behind due to Neville's situation, felt a mix of complex emotions.
As one of the few who knew the truth, Harry had his own thoughts about the events unfolding tonight.
However, he couldn't understand why Nelson wanted to kill Kingsley's entire family. What purpose did it serve other than making the situation even more uncontrollable?
Moreover...
Some of Kingsley's actions left Harry feeling incredibly estranged. Despite Sirius's repeated warnings to stay out of this matter, Harry still found himself instinctively responding to Kingsley's orders and heading out on the mission.
If the Aurors hadn't taken the 'all talk, no action' Revenge Squad seriously before, tonight's events would have changed their minds. Nelson Tobin, who had killed countless Death Eater remnants and burned down numerous manor houses, was undoubtedly an extremely dangerous individual in their eyes.
Therefore, as the group of Aurors entered Azkaban Prison, they immediately became alert, cautious of their surroundings, and prepared for any potential ambushes in the corridors.
They were well aware that Nelson would not surrender, and extracting him from the prison was no easy task.
If it weren't for Kingsley's orders, many Aurors would have preferred not to enter the prison to capture Nelson. After all, they also despised the Death Eater remnants, but their positions prevented them from taking action.
Fortunately, Kingsley didn't force them, and Gawain even directly informed them: "The enemy is fearless and skilled in Raging Fire. If it's too difficult, just let it go."
This meant that if Nelson truly used Raging Fire, their top priority should be safety.
After all, Raging Fire was still an extremely dangerous form of Dark Magic to the Aurors.
So, even though they were mentally prepared, when the black Raging Fire surged towards them like a tidal wave from the other end of the corridor, it still startled all the Aurors.
"Be careful! It's Raging Fire!"
A piercing scream echoed through the hallway.
However, the Aurors had nowhere to run, especially John Dawlish, who was leading the group. He dared not turn and flee but could only grit his teeth and endure according to the planned strategy.
Fortunately, the Aurors who entered were all experienced. After a brief moment of chaos, they quickly regained their composure.
Several Aurors raised their wands and swiftly created a wall of water in front of the group, attempting to temporarily block the Raging Fire and buy time for everyone to cast spells.
However, it was clear that water wouldn't extinguish fire here.
The Raging Fire easily crashed through the wall of water, burning right through it.
But they managed to buy a few seconds of time, allowing the Aurors to work together and push the Raging Fire back before it could engulf them.
However, unexpected events always loomed.
John Dawlish, who had just managed to push back the Raging Fire with his spell, seemed to sense something amiss. He instinctively looked down and saw his burning robes, letting out a terrified scream.
The Raging Fire had climbed up his robes, startling the surrounding Aurors.
"Quick! Help me!"
Dawlish tried to take off his robes immediately, but it was too late. Raging Fire was not ordinary fire and wouldn't give him such an opportunity.
Seeing their colleague engulfed in Raging Fire, everyone panicked. Someone instinctively sprayed water on Dawlish, attempting to douse the flames, but to no avail.
Raging Fire was different from ordinary flames; it couldn't be extinguished using conventional methods without a countering spell.
In the midst of the chaos, the Aurors turned and ran outside Azkaban Prison, not a single one staying behind to help Dawlish extinguish the RagingFire on his body.
After all, even if they knew how to extinguish the RagingFire, they might not be able to cast the spell successfully in such a panic, especially since everyone was afraid that Dawlish would suddenly pounce on them and drag them down with him in his final moments.
And so, Dawlish was abandoned.
The RagingFire on his body quickly spread around him, transforming into fire snakes that chased after the group.
Kingsley, who was outside, quickly realized something was amiss. The Aurors, who had rushed towards Azkaban Prison like a tidal wave, were now retreating from the prison, and several unlucky ones had their clothes ignited by the black RagingFire.
Fortunately, Kingsley and Gadwell remained calm. They took a few steps forward to help extinguish the flames on the last few people, preventing an even greater tragedy.
Kingsley wasn't surprised by this outcome. From the beginning, he hadn't expected the Aurors to capture Nelsen and Will, and he didn't want them to succeed either.
However, as the Minister of Magic, he couldn't remain indifferent. He had to send the Aurors on a mission, knowing it would be a difficult one.
What Kingsley didn't expect was the unexpected turn of events. Despite the Aurors' precautions, their leader, John Dawlish, was burned to death inside the prison, casting a further shadow over the night's operation.
None of the Aurors could believe what had happened.
"Organize the personnel and prevent the RagingFire from spreading," Kingsley sighed softly as he watched the RagingFire pouring out from the prison entrance.
"Look up at the hole above!"
Someone suddenly screamed, drawing attention to the broken hole at the top of Azkaban Prison, where Nelsen and Will were looking down at the Aurors below.
"Those two bastards!"
John Dawlish's sacrifice made Gadwell, the director of the Auror Office, look particularly grim. As he grabbed his flying broomstick to teach them a lesson, Kingsley, standing beside him, stopped him.
"Those two have already decided to die here. There's no need to take unnecessary risks!"
Will couldn't understand what these Aurors were thinking.
"It's normal!" Nelsen sneered. "Kingsley always needs a reason not to act. Otherwise, how could he explain himself to the press, saying he was scared witless?"
As he spoke, Nelsen used a spell to hang Umbridge, who had been tortured by Will, in mid-air.
While continuing to torture Umbridge with the Cruciatus Curse, he also amplified Will's screams, allowing those below to hear Umbridge's "song."
The shrill screams from above startled everyone present.
Everyone's faces turned pale; this was clearly intentional!
Gadwell's face twitched slightly as he looked at Kingsley. "There's really no need..."
"No need," Kingsley said, looking up at the black RagingFire pouring out of the Azkaban Prison windows. "Don't forget, those two flying broomsticks were also left behind by them."
After hearing Kingsley's words, the Aurors also breathed a sigh of relief. It was clear that they had been frightened by the RagingFire earlier, and no one wanted to deal with a group of reckless madmen. Staying away from them was the wisest choice.
