Chapter 1806: A War with No Winners (Part 256)
Chapter 1806: A War with No Winners (Part 256)
"Am I early?"
Under the cover of night, Will Jones, concealed by a Disillusionment Charm, lowered his flying broomstick and landed on a reef at the edge of Azkaban Island. He carefully observed the Azkaban fortress through night-vision binoculars, ensuring his arrival didn't trigger any alarms.
"I'm here!"
He also took the opportunity to send a message to Nelson's communication bookmark.
However, just after Will sent the message, he was astonished to see someone carrying a lantern emerge from the entrance of Azkaban Prison. They were flashing lights into the night sky outside the prison, as if signaling to him.
Could it be Nelson?
But... he hadn't replied to my message.
As Will hesitated about whether to respond, a familiar voice suddenly called out from the distant fortress.
"I know you're here. There's no need to hide. Come out," the person shouted at him.
"This..."
Will was taken aback. Azkaban Prison was indeed under strict surveillance by the Ministry of Magic, but he felt like he recognized the voice. It sounded like Neville Longbottom, who often provided them with Ministry intelligence.
"You don't need to hide. You triggered the early warning system when you arrived," Neville's voice continued from afar.
"Don't worry. The Azkaban guards were all transferred this afternoon."
Will hesitated for a moment, then left another message for Nelson before stepping out from behind the hidden reef and flying over on his broomstick. He didn't forget to shoot sparks into the sky along the way, signaling his arrival.
He wasn't afraid of death, so he certainly wasn't afraid of betrayal.
It seemed he was here to set a trap for Nelson.
"To be honest, you arrived much earlier than I expected."
Neville greeted Will with a smile, as if they were old friends.
"What's going on?"
Will, still gripping his wand tightly and surveying his surroundings cautiously after dismounting from his broomstick, finally turned to face Neville and asked with a frown.
"Kingsley knew Nelson would be coming, so he transferred the Azkaban guards ahead of time this afternoon, intentionally giving you extra time and space." Neville scrutinized the slightly familiar man before him. He seemed to be the one always by Nelson's side.
"It seems our revenge plan has the Minister's tacit approval?" Will's expression was peculiar.
"Where's Nelson?" Neville asked, raising an eyebrow slightly. "Is he still on his way?"
"I think he hasn't arrived yet."
Will hesitated for a moment and casually asked about some of the things that happened during their private gathering. When Neville responded, he knew he was dealing with the real person.
"You don't need to be so cautious." Neville understood his wariness and smiled reassuringly. "I think the Minister must have made some secret deal with Nelson."
"Are you alone?"
Will didn't respond to that, not because he didn't believe it, but because Kingsley's entire family had perished, and it was unlikely for anyone to let it go so easily.
He was definitely seeking revenge.
"Of course not. Seamus is here too, snoring away in the lounge." Neville joked, "Honestly, I've always wondered how he manages to sleep in such conditions. The environment here is far worse than I imagined."
"I wasn't sleeping, just taking a short rest to recharge!"
A voice came from inside, and Seamus Finnigan appeared at the fortress entrance, impatiently scratching his head. He welcomed the guests like a host, "And could you please not stand there?
"So, it's just the two of us here?" Will asked, taking the warm Butterbeer from Neville but showing no intention of drinking it as he surveyed the room.
"We're not worried about prisoners escaping," said Simon Finnigan, covering a yawn with his hand. "We fed them a dinner laced with the Draught of Living Death. Without the antidote, they won't wake up for a while."
"Are you really planning to clean out all the prisoners here?" Neville asked suddenly. He had a premonition, but he didn't like killing, though he understood Nelson and Will's actions. He, too, wanted revenge on Bellatrix Lestrange, but unfortunately, she had gone missing, and even the Death Eaters didn't know her whereabouts.
"Isn't that what the Minister wants us to do?" Will's expression was odd. "I remember him saying he couldn't take revenge for us but could create opportunities for it."
"Nelson and Kingsley must have made some deal!" Simon glanced at his mouth. "It's a mutual utilization, but Kingsley has indeed changed a lot since becoming Minister."
"Would you mind showing me around?" Will glanced at Nelson's reply and looked up at the two of them. "I'd like to meet our Professor Umbridge and give her a big surprise."
There weren't many prisoners left in Azkaban Prison. Ever since Kingsley and Nelson's deal, those with minor issues were released after paying a fine and receiving a 'stern lecture.'
Even if they couldn't afford a Galleon, they could owe it and repay it slowly. For a second offense, they'd have to pay double the fine, and a third offense would result in a severe strike for contempt of the Ministry's laws.
Those imprisoned here were all dangerous individuals who posed a threat to society, which was why Kingsley handed over the prison to Nelson. He wanted to use Nelson's help to clear out the prisoners in Azkaban.
Even if Kingsley hadn't done this, Nelson and his group would likely have gone to Azkaban to kill Umbridge.
There was no need for a conflict.
It wasn't worth risking their lives for the vicious prisoners in Azkaban.
However, Kingsley never expected Grell to risk his life to take his entire family. Otherwise, he might have considered whether to do so.
"Good evening, Professor. We've come to visit you."
As Will spoke, he raised his magic wand and pointed it at Umbridge, who was resting on the bed, muttering something under his breath.
The next moment, a shrill, agonizing scream echoed through the silent prison, and the infamous Umbridge found herself hanging upside down in mid-air, her face contorted in fear as she stared at the three figures standing at the entrance to her cell.
"Heart-wrenching!" Will quickly moved his wand, looking at Umbridge's twisted face. "You don't need to look at me with such hatred. When you harmed my family through the Muggle-Born Registration Commission, you were even more ruthless than me!"
Happy New Year!
