Chapter 1803: A War with No Victors (253)
Chapter 1803: A War with No Victors (253)
At this moment, in the Minister of Magic's office, Kingsley, still on duty, was sipping on a bitter tea that furrowed his brows while staring at the map of Britain spread out on the desk.
Based on the reports gathered overnight by his employees, it was evident that the sudden fires across Britain tonight were mostly at the locations of Death Eater remnants.
This indicated that Nelsen and his group's revenge operation was going smoothly, and they were swiftly settling scores with the remaining Death Eater remnants.
However, there was still a question: whether the Death Eater remnants being targeted had been completely eliminated was yet to be determined.
There was no choice; the sudden surge of fires across Britain was simply too overwhelming, causing Kingsley to suspect that Nelsen might have just cast a Raging Fire outside the Death Eaters' estates and left without even attempting to kill the Death Eaters within.
This was not good news for Kingsley, as he was well aware that this was the only opportunity to settle scores with the Death Eaters so effortlessly.
If they missed this chance, it would be gone.
It would be challenging to have another opportunity to completely eradicate the Death Eater remnants in the future.
To be honest, Kingsley never expected Nelson Tobin, who publicly declared his willingness to risk his life, to be so unreliable.
Fortunately, the Revenge Squad preparing to settle scores with the Death Eater remnants tonight wasn't limited to Nelsen alone.
From the numerous fires, it was evident that other witches and wizards were involved, and several Death Eater remnants had already been eliminated.
According to the information Kingsley received, Will Jones was another accomplice of Nelson Tobin, and he, too, was a victim of Umbridge's Muggle-Born Registration Commission. His entire family had been brutally murdered by Death Eaters, and even after the Second Wizarding War ended, Will Jones couldn't let go of his hatred, vowing to seek revenge on the Death Eaters even if it cost him his life.
Undoubtedly, Will Jones was doing just that.
He led a group to attack some of the Death Eater remnants, using high-powered Dark Magic as usual, completely obliterating those Death Eaters who lacked the protection of ancient estates, along with their houses.
Before leaving, they set fire to the ruins of the houses, burning the bodies beneath as well.
Since they didn't use Raging Fire, it was easy to distinguish that two groups of avengers were involved.
The only issue was that the group of Death Eaters killed by Will Jones and his team were not wealthy; even if they had a vault in Gringotts, it was unlikely to contain more than a few Galleons.
It had to be said that those ancient pure-blood witches and wizards were truly rich.
Just as Kingsley was pondering how to handle the aftermath for Nelsen's group, a sudden rapid knocking sound echoed outside his office.
Then, someone rushed in to report the news brought back by the Auror who had been patrolling near his luxury villa.
At that moment, Kingsley was completely stunned.
He never imagined that by staying in the Ministry of Magic tonight, he would end up receiving such terrible news.
According to the Auror's report, his villa had been attacked by an unknown Dark Wizard, and his entire family was likely to have perished in the raging flames.
"This... this can't be true!"
Upon receiving the news, Kingsley's first reaction was disbelief.
To ensure the safety of his family, Kingsley had made extensive arrangements; how could such an absurd thing happen?
Did the Aurors responsible for protecting his family die?
Undoubtedly, they hadn't! Otherwise, they wouldn't have brought back the message.
According to the report from the Auror who hurried back to the Ministry to deliver the news, the attackers were clearly well-prepared! The entire attack occurred extremely suddenly. By the time they received the alarm about the outer protective magic being attacked and Apparated in a hurry, the attackers had already used Raging Fire to break through layer upon layer of protective magic and directly charged into Kingsley's villa on flying broomsticks.
The RAGINGFire was ignited, engulfing the entire luxury villa in flames.
The whole process took less than thirty seconds, leaving the Aurors no time to react.
As for why they didn't attempt to put out the fire? They didn't know how to extinguish the RAGINGFire, and in such a situation, it was highly unlikely for anyone inside the villa to survive.
"How is this possible? Could it be... Grell!"
After hearing the detailed account from one of the Aurors, Kingsley thought of a person, a likely suspect for the attacker.
But it was all meaningless; the attacker was already dead.
"Let's go back!" Kingsley suddenly exclaimed.
Without waiting for a response, Kingsley hurried out of the office, taking a few remaining Ministry employees with him as he rushed home. He still wanted to see it for himself, or else he wouldn't feel at peace.
Staring at his burning home, Kingsley covered his chest with his hand and gazed at the villa consumed by the RAGINGFire, muttering, "I should've known this would happen. That damn prophecy, I should've seen it coming."
Regret filled Kingsley's heart, and tears flowed uncontrollably from his eyes.
He shouldn't have been careless just because he received an early warning and was prepared.
From the very beginning, he should have used the Fidelity Charm to protect his family instead of playing it safe.
But it was all too late; there was no turning back in this world. A glimmer of hatred shone in Kingsley's eyes. If the patrolling Auror hadn't been lying, there was no doubt that Grell had betrayed him!
So, this had been Grell's plot from the start; that guy had wanted revenge for his betrayal all along!
Understanding this, Kingsley couldn't help but burst into laughter, laughing so hard that tears almost streamed down his face.
He had been played from the very beginning, and the worst part was that his enemy was already dead, leaving him without the chance for revenge. How could he possibly take out his anger on a dead man?
As for directing his anger towards Nelsen and Will? Forget it! Nelsen and Will's targets had always been the Death Eaters and Umbridge in Azkaban Prison. With limited time, they wouldn't waste any extra time or energy on Kingsley's family.
Moreover, both of them were on a path of self-destruction. If he had acted against them, who would have helped him complete his mission tonight?
The most ridiculous part was that his political rationality had almost led him to blame the Sprites for this.
"Are you alright?"
Seeing Kingsley laughing with tears streaming down his face, the people around him felt a sense of unease. They were worried that the Minister might go crazy due to the intense shock, and the Ministry, which had just started to improve, couldn't afford further turmoil.
It was the Sprites, a revenge from the Sprites! Only the Sprites, with their different magical system, could have easily penetrated through the layers of protection and killed his family while the Aurors were unprepared.
At this moment, the witches and wizards around Kingsley were stunned, never expecting their Minister to speak such words.
