Chapter 180: Gengar: Jing He Would Never!
Chapter 180: Gengar: Jing He Would Never!
A Ray of Sunshine
It wasn’t a particularly flashy name, but it subtly expressed Jing He’s vision.
In the future.
His cafe would employ Pokemon as staff, and even provide temporary residences for some of them.
Just like the Weavile that once hid in a pile of garbage, and the Gastly that awoke after a thousand years of slumber in a stone, only to meet Jing He.
Jing He was willing to offer them a warm "ray of sunshine."
In the future, he even planned to build a small Pokemon garden, a temporary haven for stray, helpless, and uncatchable Pokemon to live and play.
If they could help out at the cafe, that would be even better.
His expectations weren’t high.
If he could have a few Pokemon like the Alolan Cubone or the Kanto region’s singing Jigglypuff as guards for the cafe, that would be great.
He wouldn’t say no to cute and powerful Pokemon like Bidoof, Mew, Machamp, or Shaymin either.
He believed that this place would become a favorite spot for many Pokemon in the future.
Of course, this was just Jing He’s initial idea. After all, he didn’t even have a single official employee yet.
For now, the cafe only offered espresso, latte, and cappuccino. Items like ice cream, macarons, and cream puffs were just written on the menu for now.
But that didn’t stop the cafe from being busy on its opening day.
Dai, Fujiko, Rika, Itsuki, and some of Jing He’s acquaintances from Kanaz City all came to celebrate and patronize the cafe.
Gengar, Klang, and Minidragon temporarily served as waiters, while Weavile and Jing He made the coffee together.
Laughter could be heard from far down the street.
Kanto, Team Rocket Base
"Cafe"
Sakaki stared at the image of the "A Ray of Sunshine" cafe on his tablet, lost in thought.
"Boss."
Jincho brought a cup of coffee to Sakaki.
"So, this is telling me that Team Rocket can start from the food industry?" Sakaki muttered, squinting his eyes.
After his conversation with Jing He, Sakaki had indeed considered the idea of Team Rocket "reforming," but he hadn’t had a clear direction.
But today, he suddenly had an epiphany.
Indeed.
No matter who or what their identity, everyone has to eat.
If they could win the hearts of the majority of ordinary residents, they could gain more support!
Winning over the common people would be equivalent to winning over the entire League!
The biggest gap between Team Rocket and the League wasn’t just in high-level combat power, but also in the number of supporters at the grassroots level.
"Changing our approach and weaving a net from the bottom up?"
Sakaki felt it was worth a try!
"Jincho, would you be willing to help Advisor Jing He?" Sakaki asked suddenly.
It seemed Jincho had some talent in making pastries.
"Huh?"
Jincho was taken aback.
Go help Teacher Jing He open his cafe?
To be honest, Jincho wasn’t opposed to it. She could learn a lot about cooking from Jing He, but the downside was leaving Boss Sakaki.
She pursed her lips, unsure how to refuse.
But Sakaki noticed her hesitation and nodded.
"That’s true. Changing secretaries would mean starting everything over again."
Besides, it would be better to send someone new to avoid causing unnecessary trouble for Jing He.
"Then let them go," Sakaki said.
"Them?"
Jincho’s mind conjured up three figures.
Would they really be okay?
EeveeEatsCabbage: Hmm, congratulations.
JingHeInCafe: Come for a coffee.
EeveeEatsCabbage: I’m not in Sinnoh right now, I’m in Unova.
JingHeInCafe: Unova?
EeveeEatsCabbage: Yeah, I have a performance match with Caitlin.
Caitlin, the future Psychic-type Elite Four member of Unova, the only girl who can match N’s Psychic abilities?
JingHeInCafe: Good luck, try not to make her cry.
EeveeEatsCabbage: Gyarados stare.jpg
Jing He chuckled at the emoji on his phone.
"Jing He, we’re leaving now."
At that moment, Rika, Apo, Takeshi, and Itsuki stood up to say their goodbyes.
They weren’t just leaving the cafe; they were heading back to Kanto’s Yuhong University.
"Shall I see you off?" Jing He put away his phone.
"No need."
Rika smiled, "The festival is coming up soon anyway."
Festival?
Jing He was taken aback.
As he watched the four wave goodbye, he quickly said:
"Gengar, help me see them off."
Gengar, dressed in a waiter’s uniform and wiping tables, folded his arms.
"Gengar~"
I’m busy, okay?
Despite his words, he obediently went to see them off.
Jing He wiped the sweat from his forehead.
"Truly, it’s been busy."
But he believed this was just because it was the first day. After that, a cafe with no fame or special features wouldn’t be as busy.
After all, this was just a hobby. Jing He didn’t expect to make a fortune from it.
Not everyone could be like Dai, who paid 500 League dollars for a single coffee and bought over twenty cups at once, right?
After opening, the prices were set to be more affordable.
In the end.
His main job was still as a teacher, a Pokemon psychologist, a Trainer, and...
How did he end up with so many roles?
"Gengar."
Having seen off Rika and the others, Gengar stood at the entrance of the cafe, hands on his hips, deep in thought.
Jing He had found a new way to make money, and Gengar was pleased. But Jing He’s "laid-back" attitude left Gengar unsatisfied.
Snap—
Gengar took out his phone and snapped a photo of the front of the cafe.
Then, he floated into a nearby print shop.
Seeing Gengar glide in without even opening the door, the temperature inside the shop plummeted, and the owner’s face turned pale.
“Geng—ga~”
Gengar extended his blood-red tongue and slowly approached with a sinister grin.
“Y-You’re n-not here t-to rob me?”
The middle-aged owner of the print shop was drenched in cold sweat.
Robbery?
Gengar paused, slightly taken aback.
It wasn't impossible, but then he thought of Jing He’s stern face and shuddered. He then stuck out his tongue, took out his phone, and showed the photo of the cafe.
“Doru?”
As Gengar was trying to figure out how to convey his intentions, a Togepi caught his attention from the side.
“Geng—ga, geng—ga~”
Gengar’s eyes lit up, and he started gesturing with his hands.
The Togepi, understanding the situation, wagged its tail, which transformed into a paintbrush. In no time, a picture almost identical to the photo appeared on the canvas.
“Doru?”
“Geng—ga, geng—ga”
The Togepi waved its paintbrush again, turning the picture into a promotional poster.
Gengar leaned in, carefully examined it, and made a few more gestures on the poster.
The Togepi’s expression grew serious.
He couldn’t believe that this Gengar was such a skilled artist!
After a bit of negotiation, under the bewildered gaze of the print shop owner, Gengar received a very cool promotional poster.
(There wasn't a suitable image, but you get the idea. If possible, I'll find a talented artist to draw one.)
Gengar nodded in satisfaction and gave the Togepi a thumbs-up.
The Togepi let out a relieved sigh.
Then, Gengar received a stack of promotional posters.
As Gengar floated out again, the print shop owner wiped his forehead, his expression stiff as he muttered:
“I actually found it kind of cute. I must be losing it.”
The Togepi nodded in agreement.
“Doru.”
It understood my art!
“By the way, did it pay?”
Leaving the print shop, Gengar didn’t head back to the cafe. Instead, he went to a dark alley a few streets away.
As soon as he arrived, a pair of fierce, crimson eyes appeared in the alley.
Gengar grinned.
He raised his hand, and a large, spiraling “Shadow Ball” formed in his palm.
“Woo—oo~”
The ferocity in those eyes vanished instantly, and various wild, stray, and mischievous Pokemon, including a Machop, obediently appeared before him.
“Gengar, the boss!”
With a “bang,” Gengar pulled out the posters from his dimensional pocket and started giving instructions.
“Geng—ga~”
Everyone, come here. Each of you take a stack and make sure these posters are plastered all over the surrounding streets by tomorrow!
After assigning the tasks and stepping out of the alley, Gengar sighed.
Indeed, if the cafe is to thrive, it needs the boss himself to step in!
Jing He wouldn’t do it!
Kanaz Pokemon Academy.
“Headmaster!”
Minjiang, the Dean of Admissions, walked into the headmaster’s office and saw the old headmaster sitting at his desk, his face bruised and swollen.
A Tyrantrum was glaring fiercely at him, supervising his work.
Minjiang: “...”
“Minjiang, is it?” The old headmaster looked up, forcing a pained smile. “What is it?”
“Cough.”
Minjiang pretended not to notice the headmaster’s appearance and said, “I heard that Yuhong University is offering a substantial sum to get Teacher Jing He to join them.”
“So they are.”
“Headmaster!” Seeing that the headmaster didn’t seem worried, Minjiang quickly added, “We’re already preparing the admission plan. Teacher Jing He can’t leave!”
“Hmm.”
The old headmaster nodded. “That’s true.”
“Then, should we—”
The old headmaster smiled again, but winced because of the pain on his face. He waved his hand and said, “Yuhong University doesn’t understand Teacher Jing He. A person with such a deep bond with Pokemon wouldn’t care about such trivial things.”
“But Teacher Jing He does need money and resources to train Pokemon.”
“That’s true.”
Minjiang: “...”
Can’t you say it differently, Headmaster?
“Cough. We are a school, and we educate and nurture. We can’t just throw money at people.”
However, the old headmaster quickly regained his composure.
“But we can increase his salary. After all, Teacher Jing He will be leading the exchange teams in the future.”
He noticed a cup on the desk and his eyes lit up.
“I heard Teacher Jing He opened a cafe outside the school. Many teachers here love coffee. Let’s order from his cafe on behalf of the school.”
The old headmaster slowly stood up and said earnestly, “It’s better to teach a man to fish than to give him a fish.”
“Understood!”
Minjiang finally caught on.
“Why is Gengar taking so long? Where is he?”
In the cafe, Jing He took out his phone, ready to call Gengar.
But then he noticed his phone screen seemed to blur for a moment.
Then a message popped up.
[Young Man]: I’m so bored here. I can’t even think straight...
This phone is so unreliable. I should get a new one, Jing He thought.
But he still took a moment to reply.
[Jing He]: Where are you? I’ll buy you a coffee.
