Chapter 180: Even Freaks Would Run from You
Chapter 180: Even Freaks Would Run from You
In the Duel Academy's academic building, two students from the Yellow Dormitory, one tall and one short, were walking down the hallway. Suddenly, they heard quick footsteps approaching from the opposite staircase, and a group of Obelisk Blue students rushed towards them, meeting face-to-face.
The Blue Dormitory students halted and furrowed their brows.
Their leader stepped forward and coldly said, "How dare the Yellow Dormitory students stroll so arrogantly in the middle of the hallway. Don't you know you should give way to us at a time like this?"
The tall student from the Yellow Dormitory frowned and stepped forward as if he wanted to say something. But his short companion tugged at his sleeve and whispered, "Don't bother."
The tall student immediately lowered his head and stepped aside with his companion, making way for the others.
"Hmph, that's more like it."
The Blue Dormitory students, now receiving the treatment befitting elites, became even more arrogant and haughty. "The lower dormitory students must learn to know their place," they scoffed.
With that, they strutted past with their noses in the air.
The short student from the Yellow Dormitory clenched his fists and glared at their departing backs, his eyes filled with resentment. But before a minute had passed, the Blue Dormitory students returned.
Their hurried footsteps echoed in the hallway as they ran back, shouting anxiously.
"Damn, we just ran into that guy from the Yellow Dormitory! We'll have to take a different route."
"Hurry up, those in the back! If you're left behind, you'll be forced into a duel!"
". . ."
The group frantically retraced their steps, rushing past the tall and short students from before.
The two Yellow Dormitory students were bewildered.
They couldn't quite understand what terrifying presence these privileged students had just encountered that would make them turn tail and flee at top speed. But their confusion was short-lived as they soon noticed the reason at the end of the hallway.
The legend of their Yellow Dormitory, "that person," had arrived.
". . ."
"Strange," Yu Xuan scratched his chin in thought. "I've always heard that the students from the Blue Dormitory look down on everyone, especially those from our Yellow Dormitory. Why are they acting so meek?"
"They're acting so cowardly, it's unbelievable. This is nothing like what I've heard," Mizawa added, perplexed.
You know why they're acting this way, don't you? Mizawa wanted to say something but ultimately remained silent.
"By the way, have you heard of the tennis club captain, Ayakoji?" Mizawa asked, changing the subject. "Rumor has it that he has the strength to rival Caesar from the Blue Dormitory."
"It's just a rumor," Yu Xuan replied casually.
He had a vague impression of Ayakoji. He seemed to use a tennis-themed deck, focusing on blood-letting strategies, and also had an animation-original rule victory-type special card.
His duels were less like card games and more like a game of tennis.
"Yes, I heard that Yuugi just dueled that club captain the day before yesterday and won. Some say they saw Ayakoji crying at the cliff's edge, watching the sunset, and shouting something like, 'I hate dueling the most!' or something like that," Mizawa said.
Yu Xuan pondered this new information.
Hmm, could it be that he was overwhelmed by Yuugi's dueling skills?
What a pity for that club captain.
At that moment, the two of them noticed the tall and short students standing in the hallway.
"Oh, it's Ohara and Kohara!" Mizawa immediately recognized them and greeted them.
The tall one was Ohara, and the short one was Kohara, roommates from the same dormitory.
Yu Xuan also recalled the recent rumors about the "Rare Card Hunters," a terrifying presence resembling a giant spider monster. These two students seemed to be the ones described in the rumors.
Ohara had focused on card research and printing since his enrollment, so he wasn't particularly skilled at dueling. While Kohara's dueling abilities were considered top-notch within the Yellow Dormitory, according to Mizawa, he had a weak will and tended to be easily intimidated by his opponents during duels.
Oohara, donning a mask, would be the one dueling in person while Kohara hid in the shadows, directing his moves through an earpiece like a puppeteer.
By avoiding face-to-face confrontations, they believed they could circumvent being overwhelmed by their opponents' "momentum" and make better decisions under less pressure.
Thus far, all the Obelisk Blue students they had confronted had lost their rare cards.
Kohara looked up at You Xuan and, after a moment, let out a soft sigh.
"You Xuan, you're so amazing."
He averted his gaze, as if speaking to himself.
"Even though we're both from the Yellow Dormitory, you're so powerful. Even those arrogant students from the Blue Dormitory are scared of you."
Mizawa opened his mouth as if to say something, but then closed it again, choosing to remain silent.
What he wanted to say was that "notorious" would be a more fitting description.
You Xuan smiled.
"That's too kind of you," he said. "Speaking of fame, it seems the two of you have also gained quite a reputation among the Blue Dormitory students lately, haven't you? I've heard them talking about you."
After a brief pause, You Xuan lowered his voice and added, "The spider giant who hunts for rare cards?"
The two were taken aback.
"Wh-What are you talking about? I don't understand," Oohara stammered, tugging at Kohara's sleeve.
"Let's go, Oohara," Kohara said, and the two walked away.
As they disappeared down the corridor, Mizawa couldn't help but ask, "Are you talking about that giant spider duelist who only appears at night and uses banned gambling rules to hunt for rare cards?"
"Yes," You Xuan replied.
"That's impossible," Mizawa objected. "While Oohara is unusually tall and fits the description of a giant duelist, he specializes in card design and isn't very skilled at dueling.
This spider giant, on the other hand, is said to have defeated many students from the Blue Dormitory."
"Who knows?" You Xuan smiled and continued walking without elaborating further.
That night.
The night was as dark as thick ink, swallowing the daytime hustle and bustle. Sparse starlight struggled to penetrate the thick clouds, casting dappled shadows through the treetops. The wind howled wildly through the ancient trees, rustling their branches.
It was indeed a night conducive to clandestine activities.
A tall figure emerged from the forest, his steps slow and deliberate.
He wore a mask, his eyes hidden behind a pair of dark sunglasses that reflected the faint starlight. He was draped in layer upon layer of Obelisk Blue uniforms, the sleeves extending outward like spider legs, making him appear over 6 feet tall—a colossal spider.
He moved silently, inching closer to his prey for the night.
Two lone students wearing Obelisk Blue uniforms stood beneath the moonlight.
However, just as he was about to pounce.
One of them suddenly turned around.
"So, you're the mysterious giant duelist," the student, none other than You Xuan in an Obelisk Blue uniform, said with a grin as he held up his Duel Disk.
"The usual rules, a wager, right? I understand. Shall we skip the preliminaries and get straight to it?"
But before anything could happen, the spider giant let out a deep growl: "Fuck! It's him! It's that guy!"
And with that, he turned tail and ran for his life.
You Xuan: ". . ."
Mizawa, standing by his side, spoke up nonchalantly.
"See? I told you freaks would run from you."
