Chapter 18: The Battle in the Plants vs. Zombies World (Part 2)
Dave, who was sitting there drinking water, was startled by Liam's sudden shout. The water in his mouth went down the wrong pipe, causing him to cough violently. Liam quickly rushed over to pat his back. It took quite a while for Dave to recover.
He lifted his head and looked at Liam. "A problem that a great scientist like me couldn't solve, how could a little kid like you possibly figure it out?"
Seeing the skeptical expression on Liam's face, Crazy Dave continued, "My enemy is Doctor Zomboss, a highly intelligent zombie. He has developed numerous strange zombies and is skilled in electronics and mechanics, capable of creating robots larger than houses. As a result of a failed evil experiment, Doctor Zomboss has assimilated the knowledge of many scientists."
"The most important thing", Dave lowered his voice. "He can extract the knowledge of those who have turned into zombies. At first, I thought he was just a zombie expert, so I created several robots to assist me. But each time, the robots ended up becoming his henchmen."
Dave shook his head, as if recalling something unpleasant. "Although I may not be as skilled as him in software, I have discovered something. The programs he uses have characteristics of other renowned experts, all of whom were victims of zombie attacks. So, I suspect that when zombies eat a person's brain, Doctor Zomboss gains their knowledge."
At this point, Dave's face lit up. "When I was about to give up, I stumbled upon an opportunity to study plants, something no one had ever researched before. I found that Doctor Zomboss lacks effective means to deal with these plants. It seems that while he can absorb and digest knowledge through evil means, he cannot learn new knowledge through normal means. That's why he is so desperate to control his minions to attack me. Only a great scientist like Dave knows how these plants that attack zombies work. Only by eating my brain can Doctor Zomboss learn how to deal with these plants."
After saying this, Crazy Dave stared at Liam with his mismatched eyes, as if to say, how could a mere child possibly have the power to combat such a formidable enemy, considering his expertise in this field is on par with the world's leading experts.
Liam looked at Dave, whose face was full of disbelief, and said, "If you trust me, let me go to your underground laboratory. I'll show you the solution."
Seeing the determination in Liam's eyes, Dave shook his head and led him back to the basement (this time, Liam did not sit on the sofa).
By the computer terminal in the basement, Liam chose to extract knowledge from the Frostpunk World.
A golden light flashed, and a Usb drive appeared in Liam's hand.
After plugging the Usb drive into the computer, with the help of artificial intelligence, a 3D projection of the Difference Engine, Power Tower, and robots from the Frostpunk World appeared, complete with various data annotations.
Dave pushed Liam aside and stared at the projections in amazement. "This is the work of an entirely different civilization. These robots can perform tasks like logging, mining, tending to greenhouses, and even caring for patients, all through mechanical programming."
"More importantly, these robots have incredible reliability, using materials and techniques from the early 20th century. They can function in environments as cold as -150°C."
"The most unbelievable part is that these massive machines are powered by ancient steam power."
After a bout of wild dancing, Dave turned to Liam, "I finally figured out where your confidence comes from. These robots don't rely on any electronic components. Even if Doctor Zomboss has incredible electronic intrusion capabilities, he can't breach a system core made of gears and perforated steel plates."
"As long as we have the steam Power Tower for energy and the Difference Engine for programming, I think I can start producing these robots soon. This will allow my Plants army to grow rapidly, and I might actually see the day when Zombies are completely eradicated."
With that, Dave crouched down to Liam's eye level. "This technology is crucial to me. Since we're both Merchants, let's cut to the chase. Name your price. I'm determined to get this."
Liam thought for a moment. "I'm just a kid. I'm not sure what this item could be worth to you."
"Alright, since you trust Dave, I'll prepare the trade items for you. You'll see that this is a perfect deal."
Even though they now had a way to manufacture new robots, both of them still had to go out and set up defenses against the Zombies. Despite the help of magic, it took them several hours to finish the work, and they only managed to complete everything by sunset.
"Shouldn't there be other people in this village? Why didn't they come out to help?" Liam, recalling some aspects of the game, asked Dave curiously after they finished.
"Originally, the town I lived in had other people, but when I realized the Zombies were targeting me, I moved to this abandoned town. It's been three years since then."
Back at Dave's house, Liam went to the bathroom to clean up, while Dave prepared the trade items.
After getting ready, Dave was already sitting on the sofa waiting for Liam.
"I can transfer ten types of Plants to you, including three advanced Plants of your choice." After saying this, he noticed Liam's emotionless gaze and chuckled awkwardly. "Of course, besides these, the greenhouse farm we reclaimed is also yours. It will serve as your Plants cultivation base, and once the robots are ready, I'll fully equip it for you."
Hearing this, Liam's lips curved into a smile. Having a greenhouse farm would allow him to continuously obtain Plants. Seeing Liam's smile, Dave breathed a sigh of relief and continued, "Additionally, there's a set of farmhouses and the house you currently own. Once the robots are ready, I'll get them all set up for you."
With that, Dave pulled out a small bag from behind him and handed it to Liam. Liam extended his hand to take the bag, but miscalculated its weight and nearly dropped it on his foot. He opened the bag and found several rough, chestnut-sized gold ingots, weighing a few kilograms in total. If he sold them, he could probably get around 1000 Galleons. Honestly, the Goblins at Gringotts were too greedy, daring to exchange pure gold coins for Galleons, which were just an alloy (Note 1).
Besides the gold, there was also a notebook.
"I assume you come from a fully functional human society that might need this gold. I don't have any use for it, so I'm giving it all to you", Dave said, rubbing his hands. "This notebook contains some of my insights on cultivating Plants. You can take a look."
After selecting the Plants, Liam bid Dave a satisfied farewell and left his house, returning to the Multiverse General Store.

Note 1: In the Harry Potter universe, if Galleons were pure gold, they would weigh 50 grams each and be worth only five pounds, which is absolutely impossible.
