Chapter 18: Open Class (Part 2)
Chapter 18: Open Class (Part 2)
Hearing Felix's words, the young Wizards were all very excited. Their curiosity had been piqued long ago.
Even the professors present were full of curiosity.
Professor Snape stood in the corner, also eager to find out what this boy had discovered to dare challenge his class time!
Professor Flitwick was particularly excited. He had a deep love for spells, though his research in Ancient Runes was not extensive. He also strongly agreed with Felix's views on Ancient Magic, as he himself had mastered a few powerful Ancient Magic spells, even though he rarely used them.
Lockhart envied Felix, who stood at the center of the Great Hall. If he could also host an Open Class, he would surely gain more attention, wouldn't he?
If he wrote this scene into his new book...
But what should he do, perform a stage play?
Everyone in the room had different thoughts, but Felix swiftly and decisively waved his wand, causing all the candles in the Great Hall to extinguish instantly, and the sky on the ceiling was completely obscured.
The entire Great Hall plunged into darkness.
"Lumos." Felix's voice rang clearly in the ears of everyone present, quieting the restless young Wizards. "This is a common spell used to light up the surroundings—very simple, even young Wizards who haven't yet started school can learn it through self-study."
With the light from Lumos, the audience could faintly see Felix's figure.
"Once you fully master this spell, you can make some modifications—"
"Like increasing the brightness", as Felix spoke, the light at the tip of his wand spread to cover the entire platform.
"Changing the color", the light orb shifted from white to red, green, yellow, and blue.
"Or, you can throw it." Felix waved his wand, and the light orb flew far out from the tip, drawing an arc in the air.
The Great Hall fell dark again, "and its corresponding Ancient Magic—"
Then, the audience heard a strange word, and the next moment, a flood of light burst from the center of the platform. The milky white light enveloped the entire Great Hall, and the most peculiar thing was that the light seemed to fill every corner, leaving not a single shadow.
"This is Luminos." Felix whispered.
Every young Wizard in the audience burst into enthusiastic applause.
Felix smiled, "This is just a simple example, but we can still see the difference." He waved his wand again, and the candles relit, the ceiling returning to its original state.
"Modern magic has limits in terms of power and intensity, even if it fluctuates within a certain range—we can still clearly perceive this."
"However, Ancient Magic is different. They are simple and brutal, and their power often depends on the magnitude of your magical energy."
"For example, if I wanted to, I could use this spell to light up the entire Hogwarts."
A student in the crowd shouted, "Professor, I want to learn this!"
Felix couldn't help but chuckle, speaking in an amused tone, "Forget it. If you learned this spell, it would drain all your magical energy in an instant."
"Does anyone remember what I just said? Ancient Magic is known for its immense power and difficulty to control. I suspect most of you only remembered the first part."
"But the second part is the key!"
Below the platform, all the students were buzzing with excitement, their faces glowing with the thrill of learning powerful Ancient Magic.
But unfortunately, the books that recorded Ancient Magic were all in the Restricted Section.
Ron's face lit up with a peculiar glow. "I want to learn this! I have to master this spell! It's simply amazing!"
Harry was equally captivated. A simple Lumos, when replaced with Ancient Magic, could have such power. What if other spells were replaced? For instance, would Hermione's Petrifying Spell turn someone into a solid stone?
Snape’s expression remained unchanged, but the power of this magic...
So, did Dumbledore and the Dark Lord master powerful Ancient Magic?
Felix waved his wand, and a series of red sparks shot from the tip, drawing the students' attention back.
"The next demonstration is the main focus of today's Open Class, and of course, one of the key assessments for this year's Ancient Runes class—"
"One of them", he paused deliberately.
The students, who had just calmed down, were once again excited.
Was it going to be an open-book test?
At this moment, Felix jumped down from the platform. "Suitcase, come here!" With his spell, a suitcase quickly flew over and landed on the ground, then with a loud "bang", it popped open. Several figures flew out and landed on the platform, remaining still.
It was then that everyone noticed the figures standing on the platform were actually half-foot-tall (about 15 cm) dolls. They had various appearances—men and women, young and old—but each one was distinct.
"This is... Hey! I've played this game!" Justin, a young wizard from a Muggle background, suddenly shouted, his face turning red. He never expected to see action figures at Hogwarts, and ones that could move!
Harry also felt a vague sense of familiarity, as his cousin Dudley had mentioned something similar.
"What is it?" Ron asked, curious. He was a Pureblood and had no idea what these moving dolls were. They were just animated toys, so what was the big deal?
"These are characters from a Fighting Game in the Muggle world", Harry explained, trying to recall more details, though he had never played it himself.
"Fighting Game?" Ron was clearly more interested in this term.
Felix smiled. "It seems some of you have recognized them. The dolls' designs are indeed inspired by a Muggle game, but that's not the focus today."
Felix waved his wand, and two dolls leaped high into the air, standing in the center of the platform, while the others retreated to the edges.
"Does anyone know their names?"
"Fire Man and Ice Woman!" Justin shouted, this being his area of expertise.
Felix continued, "And do you know their abilities?"
"Fire and ice!" Justin answered eagerly, more proactive than ever.
Felix repeated, "Fire and ice... Now!" He waved his wand again.
The dolls on the platform came to life. Fire Man's right hand burst into bright yellow flames. With a forceful swing, the flames expanded to the size of a Quaffle and flew out... half a meter, then exploded with a loud bang.
The young wizards standing close by couldn't help but take a step back, only relaxing when they saw the flames didn't leave the platform. Their eyes then fixed on the dolls with intense interest.
They wanted to play, and they wanted to own them.
On the other side, Ice Woman kicked out with a sharp and graceful motion. A row of ice-blue spikes shot out, causing some of the young witches to gaze in awe.
Ah, so cute!!! I want to hug them.
Felix smiled, feeling in control of the situation—
"Next, we need a battle!"
