Chapter 1796: A War Without Victors (Part 246)
Chapter 1796: A War Without Victors (Part 246)
While Harry and his group were deeply entangled in the British goblin rebellion, far away on the other side of the globe, Albert was enjoying a rather pleasant time.
Since settling down in his villa in the Far East, he and his family had been exploring the unfamiliar country, indulging in various exotic cuisines. When they felt tired, they would take a few days to rest and do things they enjoyed, living a carefree and joyful life.
On a day when the family decided to stay home and spend time with their granddaughter, Alice, the energetic Albert took the girls out to various specialty shops, planning to buy interesting souvenirs for them while the prices were still affordable.
Whenever Albert purchased gifts in bulk, Nia would give him a complex look, undoubtedly still adjusting to the fact that her older brother was involved with multiple women.
"Ahem, where did you say we're going?" Albert quickly changed the subject, not wanting his sister to keep giving him strange looks. He regretted letting her know about this, all because Katrina loved to gossip about his romantic affairs.
"The Cheongsam Shop, I think that's the name," Nia pointed out a hidden clothing store in a secluded corner to the group. She also explained why they were there, "I came here with my friend once, and the clothes here are all so beautiful. They're said to be a local specialty."
The shop boasted being a "century-old store," and it was run by a middle-aged couple. One was a tailor, while the other welcomed customers and showcased the beauty of cheongsams to the girls who entered.
It was undeniable that even though the shop owner's wife had entered middle age, she still exuded a dignified and elegant aura in her cheongsam.
The unique garment immediately caught the attention of Isabella and the others, as they had never seen anyone wear clothes with such a distinct style.
However, the one who was most surprised was not Isabella's group, but the shop owner's wife. She marveled not only at the quartet's handsomeness and beauty but also at Albert's fluent and proficient manner of speech, as if he were a foreigner with a Chinese soul.
Although custom-made cheongsams took time, the shop had ready-made garments for customers to try on, which was one of the main reasons why the "century-old store" often satisfied most of its customers.
Albert selected a silk fabric with light beige and watercolour lotus designs, which seemed perfectly suited to Isabella's elegant demeanor no matter how he looked at it.
Just as Albert was about to ask Isabella to try it on, Nia took a step ahead.
It wasn't that Nia liked the style Albert had chosen for Isabella, but she trusted his sense of aesthetics.
Isabella didn't mind this at all. She had already picked out the fabric and style for Katrina, and if there were no better options, she would have chosen the same style. It seemed that foreigners also had their preferences when it came to cheongsams.
"How does it look?"
In no time, Nia emerged from the fitting room, quite pleased with the cheongsam she was wearing. The garment Albert had chosen indeed had a unique beauty.
"It's beautiful. Truly, a pretty girl looks good in anything," the shop owner's wife, who had been chatting with Albert, exclaimed as she saw Nia step out of the fitting room. Her eyes lit up as she sized Nia up and down, clearly impressed.
"There were already very few foreign girls who came here, and even fewer of such quality as these ladies. After putting on the cheongsam, they truly exude a unique beauty."
"It's indeed beautiful, but..."
Albert examined his sister up and down and suddenly shook his head. "I don't know why, but something feels off."
"I think it's fine."
Katrina also emerged from the changing room, wearing a cheongsam in the same color as her hair.
Katrina's demeanor changed significantly after donning the cheongsam.
With her red hair, the red and sexy semi-transparent floral cheongsam, and her stunning appearance, her gaze at Albert was almost lustful, fully accentuating the foreign girl's seductive charm.
The shop owner's curious gaze swept back and forth between the two, as if trying to guess their relationship.
"It's probably because of the hair."
Isabella glanced at Albert and then at the female shop owner beside her, pinpointing the reason, "If you could dye your hair black, it might match better."
"Nia's hair color is indeed a significant factor, but I think it's the clash between her personality and the cheongsam. Nia is more lively, while the cheongsam she chose is more suitable for a serene girl, which is why it feels odd." Albert turned his head towards Katrina's choice of a flashy red semi-transparent floral cheongsam and surprisingly found it more appropriate.
It was indeed challenging for foreigners to capture the essence of the cheongsam.
"How about..."
Albert ultimately decided against letting Nia and Isabella change out of their cheongsams. They had come here for a fun shopping trip, and whether the clothes looked good or not was secondary. There was no need to upset his sister over this.
Albert promptly paid for three cheongsams and allowed the ladies to cooperate with the shop owner in taking various measurements. Before leaving, he also provided the address of their villa, requesting the shop to deliver the finished cheongsams directly.
It had to be said that this era's Far East was not prosperous, and most expenses were lower than expected, allowing Albert, who was from a capitalist background, to shop freely.
Indeed, Albert's taste proved to be excellent. After Isabella used magic to transform her hair into sleek black locks, the light beige cheongsam Albert chose for her complemented her perfectly.
The reason might be that Isabella had not worked formally outside after graduating from Hogwarts, and thus, she remained untouched by the negative influences of society, retaining a strong scholarly aura:
Pure, noble, and elegant, she possessed an otherworldly beauty.
The red semi-transparent floral cheongsam that Isabella had chosen for Katrina also suited her well, but it exuded a seductive aura when she wore it.
This made Nia feel rather hurt, as it was her idea to go cheongsam shopping together, yet she was the only one who didn't find a suitable outfit.
"Where's Albert?"
Katrina intended to have Isabella try on her cheongsam to see if she could capture her essence.
"He seems to have gone out for something." Nia tilted her head, "I sense he's a bit distracted."
"Perhaps he has something on his mind. Let's not disturb him for now."
Isabella, who had already reverted to her original appearance, gave her sister a look. Then, the two of them led Nia away to chat about their experiences designing clothes, preventing her from interrupting Albert.
