Chapter 1794: A War with No Victors (Part 244)
It's always easier when you have connections.
Having lived in a country rife with bureaucracy in his past life, Albert inherently understood the weight of this statement.
Some things are universally applicable, and the British magical community was no exception, merely expressing them in a different form.
After all, this was a world with extraordinary power, where the use of power wasn't as overt as the use of force.
Albert wasn't a heartless villain, nor was he the Dark Lord. Naturally, he wouldn't resort to brute force to resolve every issue.
When he wasn't inclined to personally engage in power struggles, finding a "proxy" for himself could undoubtedly spare him numerous troubles and make it less likely to encounter the kind of distasteful situations Dumbledore had faced.
Life would be carefree and joyous.
After leaving the study with Isabella, Albert entered the living room and saw Nia deep in conversation with Katrina. He couldn't help but raise an eyebrow in curiosity and ask, "What are you ladies chatting about?"
"We're talking about why Katrina is willing to be your mistress!"
Since learning from Katrina that her brother had not only dated his sisters but also had multiple mistresses, Nia had been feeling particularly conflicted and unsure how to face Albert.
Nia had always known that the handsome Albert was popular among the ladies, especially when he started dating in school, which made her feel a bit uncomfortable. But thankfully, her relationship with Isabella was strong.
However, she never imagined that in just a few years, things would evolve to this point, and what surprised her the most was that Isabella had agreed to it.
If Katrina, her own sister, was one of his mistresses, then who were the others?
This had always baffled Albert, and Nia couldn't comprehend it either. But what truly baffled Nia was that Albert's mistresses could all get along harmoniously, which was truly astonishing.
Did Albert possess such immense charm, or were witches generally this open-minded?
Feeling uncomfortable under Nia's scrutinizing gaze, Albert coughed lightly, attempting to change the subject, "Ahem, you can talk about something else."
"I think discussing your love life as a ladies' man would be more interesting!" Nia's eyes narrowed as she studied Albert.
"How do you feel about being here?"
Albert didn't respond to this and tried to steer the conversation in a different direction.
"It's not great. I feel like there's a big difference from home, and even after a few years, I still haven't fully adjusted. The language here is also challenging to learn." Nia knew that Albert wouldn't discuss his personal life with her, so she continued along the same line of thought.
"Although I've made some good friends, to be honest, I kind of want to go back to Britain!"
Isabella, standing nearby, suddenly smiled and asked, "You're so pretty, but you don't have a boyfriend?"
"I haven't found the right one yet." Nia didn't look at Isabella but spoke with a hint of resentment in her voice, "Sometimes, having an overly exceptional brother can be tough for a sister."
"Albert has been exceptional since childhood, so much so that whenever I meet a guy, I subconsciously compare him to Albert. It's hard to find someone who measures up in every way, especially in this unfamiliar land, where we might even have conflicting perspectives!"
Nia was quite popular here, not just because of her beauty but also her decent background, wealth, and strong capabilities. She never lacked suitors, but due to certain reasons, she hadn't found the right person.
"Fine, I admit it was my fault!" Albert conceded with a sigh as he met Nia's gaze.
"Yes, it was definitely your fault!" Nia nodded, somewhat satisfied with Albert's acknowledgment of his mistake.
"So, what are your plans now?" Albert asked, meeting Isabella's meaningful glance, inquiring about his sister's future endeavors.
"What else can I do? I'll open a Witch Beauty Parlor!" Nia pouted, "You shouldn't mind that, right?"
"How about changing the name?" Albert suggested kindly, "It's not wise to openly associate with wizardry in the Muggle world."
"This beauty potion is so popular among the ladies, and many are asking where to buy it." Nia seemed to ignore Albert's advice and continued talking about the magical beauty potion.
There was no mistake in the effect of the potion, as evidenced by the book titled 'The Ultimate Guide to Beauty Potions'.
The Andersons' rapid integration into the upper-class circles was partly due to this very reason; every woman desired beauty, especially in the age-conscious Western world, where the beauty potion's effects were even more pronounced.
With their reputation established, the next step was to monetize it. The Andersons were evidently skilled in this regard.
In a way, Nia's choice was a family decision. While they had indeed profited handsomely with Albert's help over the years, this income was unstable. The highly sought-after beauty potion was a golden goose, a more reliable source of income. Therefore, Nia's studies were also leaning towards this direction, and the entire family was preparing for this new venture.
Albert supported this decision. He believed that with the right ingredients, it wouldn't be difficult to scientifically produce beauty potions with slightly less potent effects.
"What about you three? What are your plans now? Are you going to start your world tour from here?" Nia was delighted to have Albert's support and asked about their future plans, hoping to stay and learn from Albert.
"We'll be staying here for a while. If you want to learn, I can teach you gradually." Albert was naturally willing to help his sister. However, he couldn't understand how the conversation always seemed to veer back to his gossip, and the more they talked, the more enthusiastic they became, leaving Albert dumbfounded.
"It seems like those women who became your lovers all had their own agendas. I always wondered how most girls could tolerate their men having multiple relationships." Nia wished to continue the conversation with Katrina that night, but unfortunately, she was ruthlessly rejected, leaving her with a resentful expression.
Noticing Albert's complaining gaze, Katrina shrugged and smiled, "I don't think it's something we can't talk about, and I can sense that she cares about you."
"I know."
"No, you don't," Isabella said, studying her husband and sighing softly. "She likes you."
"She's always liked and admired me since she was little. When we were younger, I took care of both Nia and Tom," Albert said proudly, his chest puffed out.
Isabella and Katrina exchanged a glance and chose to remain silent on the matter.
While it was true that Nia had depended on him when they were younger, now...
