Chapter 178: The Destroyer Arrives (Third Update)
Chapter 178: The Destroyer Arrives (Third Update)
Dawn, six o'clock.
Jerry slowly opened his eyes after finishing his meditation.
Nothing unusual had happened in the base last night, and Loki clearly hadn't shown up.
Taking out the Portkey, a spatial fluctuation occurred, and Jerry's figure vanished from the spot, reappearing in his room in New York.
In the morning, he still had to prepare breakfast for his family and make an appearance at school, at least to avoid raising any suspicions.
If someone were to investigate him, they would find that although he hadn't been at school these past few days, he was still in New York.
Around nine o'clock, he returned to the New Mexico Base via Portkey.
"Witch, we're going to Old Bridge Town for burgers. Are you coming?"
Not long after leaving his room, Jerry encountered Thor, Jane, and the others.
Perhaps because of some deep conversation with Jane last night, Thor seemed to be in much better spirits, apparently having accepted his fate.
"Of course, it's getting a bit stuffy here!"
Jerry smiled and agreed.
If he wanted to find Loki, staying close to Thor was clearly the best choice.
Thus, the five of them borrowed a Shield vehicle from Coulson and set off for Old Bridge Town.
Professor Erik drove, with the muscular Thor in the front passenger seat, while Jerry squeezed in between Jane and Daisy in the back.
He actually wanted to sit in the front, but there was no helping it; he was the smallest of the five.
As the car slowly drove away from the base gates, Hawkeye Barton, standing behind Coulson, asked in confusion:
"Isn't this a bit too risky?"
Coulson sighed helplessly.
"This was Director Fury's last order before he left, telling us not to restrict Thor's freedom, but to protect him. So you take a team of elite agents and follow them from a distance to ensure his safety!"
Thor's status wasn't that of a prisoner of Shield. After all, he was a prince, or perhaps the future king, of a civilization more advanced than Earth, despite the current issues.
Besides, the base's strongest fighter, Jerry, was right next to Thor.
Two hours later,
Coulson, who was guarding the base, suddenly received an urgent notification from the Research Department.
"Sir, there's a massive energy fluctuation fifteen kilometers northwest of the base, similar to the one when the hammer appeared!"
Upon receiving the report, Coulson immediately led two combat teams and a research team to investigate by car.
However, when they arrived, they only found a circular pattern on the ground composed of countless strange symbols and texts.
"Hmm, this looks similar to some of the texts in the magic book the wizard gave me!"
After a closer look, Coulson realized the strange texts on the ground were somewhat familiar.
"Call the wizard and see if she's available to come and take a look!"
Coulson instructed the agent beside him.
The agent nodded and then, just as he was about to pull out his phone, realized Shield didn't have the wizard's contact information:
"Sir, do you have the Witch's phone number?"
"Uh, use the radio to contact Agent Barton and have him notify her!"
Coulson paused for a moment before providing a solution.
However, before the agent could even take out the radio, the sky suddenly darkened, and a fierce wind began to blow, as if a new storm was about to break.
Coulson realized something was wrong and quickly ordered all the agents and researchers to get into their vehicles and leave the area immediately.
"Boom!"
Just as everyone had barely managed to get into their cars but before they could start the engines, a rainbow descended from the sky. Following it, a humanoid armor made of an unknown metal appeared above the circular pattern that had formed on the ground.
The humanoid armor stood at least seven meters tall, with a dark gold color that exuded an intense pressure.
As soon as the armor landed, its head split open, and a powerful destructive energy burst out, instantly reducing the three nearest Shield armored cars to rubble.
"Exactly as the Director predicted!"
Coulson, seeing the humanoid armor immediately launch an attack, immediately understood that this might be a killer sent by Loki to eliminate any threats.
He quickly pulled out his radio and shouted for all agents to drive to Old Bridge Town and to have Hawkeye Barton contact the wizard and Thor.
A few minutes before the humanoid armor's appearance, in Jane's home in Old Bridge Town.
After finishing breakfast with hamburgers, at Jane's invitation, Jerry and Thor went to her house as guests.
While Shield's base was nice, the atmosphere was never as relaxed as it was at home.
The group sat around, sipping coffee that Jerry had conjured with magic, while Thor recounted the history of Asgard and some of his own stories from the past.
Though, from his current perspective, many of the things he had done back then seemed impulsive and childish.
Asgard's history was ancient, far surpassing any civilization on Earth today. Thor, having lived for 1,500 years, had countless stories to tell, more than anyone could ever finish hearing.
These stories captivated not only the three astronomers but also Jerry, who listened intently. Through Thor's tales, Jerry learned many things he hadn't known before, which would be quite helpful for his future plans.
"In Asgard, besides my mischievous brother Loki, I have four close friends. Each of them is among the most outstanding warriors in Asgard. You might have read about them in books.
They are…."
Before Thor could finish, a tapping on the window interrupted him. Turning his head, he saw four figures in ancient Norse war armor—three men and one woman—waving at him.
"Oh, gods, the Warriors Three and Sif?"
Seeing the four figures at the door, Thor was initially stunned, then he set down his cup and rushed out, his face full of excitement.
After a series of enthusiastic hugs and greetings, Thor introduced his four best friends to Jerry and Jane. They were Volstagg, whose strength far exceeded that of an average Asgardian warrior; Fandral, the master swordsman; Hogun, the master of weapons; and Sif, the only female warrior among them.
"Of course, I knew Odin, such a powerful being, could not have died from mere stress!"
From the conversation between the Warriors Three and Thor, Jerry learned the truth.
It turned out that Odin was merely in a deep sleep, Thor had not been permanently exiled, and there had been no war between Jotunheim and Asgard. Everything was a lie concocted by Loki to seize the throne.
They had come to take Thor back to Asgard because, in the hearts of all Asgardians, the invincible Thor was the true heir to Odin and the rightful king of Asgard.
As long as Thor returned to Asgard, Loki would never be recognized as king.
