Chapter 178: The Commission
Chapter 178: The Commission
"I've misjudged them!"
"These two young ones, Grei and Harvey, have developed feelings for each other in such a short time, and now his family is knocking on their door. Fortunately, she also managed to escape a calamity because of this."
Karl rested his chin on his hand, deep in thought.
He observed that Grei's methods were not particularly clever; a wizard apprentice might not notice, but a full-fledged wizard would sense something amiss.
To avoid alerting the other party, he had disconnected the connection early on, but Grei should already be saved.
As for Engle...
"There's something wrong with this guy!"
Just a few months ago, Engle was an ordinary advanced apprentice wizard with little hope of becoming a full-fledged wizard.
Now,
Not only has he become a full-fledged wizard, but he also possesses at least two extremely bizarre witchcraft.
It's common knowledge that constructing a spell model is an incredibly complex and tedious process, with almost no shortcuts.
Ordinary wizards need to spend several years, even a decade or more, to learn and successfully construct one.
Some complex witchcraft even requires several decades!
Even Karl, with the absolute control of the divine domain fragment, takes a few months to construct a First Circle spell.
Engle is faster than him! This is not normal.
Unless...
"He was originally a First Circle wizard, but for some reason, his cultivation was reduced."
"No!"
"Engle's life has a traceable pattern, so it's highly unlikely that he is the same Engle as before."
"Possession? Body snatching?"
Karl's eyes flickered:
"Neither seems likely!"
He had personally experienced a 'body snatching' incident and knew that once possessed, one would completely lose consciousness.
Engle was different.
He still had deep feelings for his companions and met with Grei despite knowing the danger.
It didn't seem like he had become a different person.
"Forget it!"
Shaking his head, Karl dismissed the wandering thoughts:
"It's none of my business. What secrets could he possibly hide that can compare to the divine domain fragment that allows me to travel between worlds?"
"Moreover, he's already being watched. Contacting him now will only attract more unwanted attention."
However, Engle's experience did make Karl more vigilant. It seems that one shouldn't stand out too much.
Otherwise,
Once targeted by someone with ill intentions, the troubles are endless.
Karl had too many secrets. Not to mention, in just a few years, he had constructed four First Circle spells, which was beyond imagination.
Even a Second Circle wizard would find it hard to resist taking action.
"Thankfully, I used the name Cannon. Only Blind-eye Old Brin knows my true identity."
"And he only knows that I have some talent on the path of knighthood."
"Keeping a low profile is the way to go!"
...
Karl thought the matter was concluded, and he could finally take a good rest. However, as evening approached, a visitor arrived.
It was a kind-hearted female wizard.
The visitor wore a light golden wizard robe, adorned with intricate embroidery that swayed gently with her steps, as if whispers echoed in the air.
Her beauty was like a budding rose, both fresh and elegant, with a captivating radiance, especially her bright eyes that left a lasting impression.
Her cascading hair flowed smoothly down her back, complementing the golden wizard robe, further enhancing her noble aura.
It was evident.
She was a formal wizard from a prominent family; ordinary wandering wizards did not possess such a demeanor.
"Mr. Cannon?"
"It's me."
Karl put down his book, removed his monocle, and stood up to face the visitor, his eyes flickering slightly.
He had met this female wizard not long ago.
However, she had not seen him.
It was Nina, the Walker family's young miss and Harvey's aunt, also a mid-First Circle wizard.
"Hmm..."
Nina's beautiful eyes sparkled:
"Does Mr. Cannon know me?"
"We've met once," Karl smiled faintly. "Miss Nina's beauty is so captivating that even dreams struggle to replicate it. Anyone who has seen it would find it hard to forget."
Nina smiled gracefully.
She was known as the pearl of the Dream Bazaar, and while she had heard such praises before, most were either flattery or had ulterior motives.
Few knew that Nina possessed an innate ability to keenly sense the changes in others' thoughts, making her a natural lie detector.
It was also for this reason that Harvey's mother sent her to meet the so-called daughter-in-law.
Karl enjoyed the praise from the other party, as it was free of any unpleasant thoughts.
"I've heard Harvey mention Mr. Cannon, a pioneer on the path of knighthood, and surprisingly, you're also a wizard!"
Legendary knights were not uncommon, and there were plenty of official wizards, but it was rare to excel in both.
Even at the early stage of the first rank, his overall strength could rival a mid-stage first-rank wizard.

"Luck."
Karl humbly replied, "Is there something Miss Nina needs my help with?"
"Yes," Nina said, gently touching her forehead, her expression complex.
"Mr. Cannon is also aware that without a special opportunity, Harvey will remain a great knight for the rest of his life."
"For an ordinary person, becoming a great knight is already impressive, but he's from the Walker family, and he's had a high-spirited nature since he was young. If he can't break through, I'm afraid he won't be able to handle it."
Karl slowly nodded.
"Fortunately!"
Nina took a deep breath and said, "We discovered several magic belladonna plants in a valley. This is a magical plant imbued with primordial power. With a few other materials, it can help Harvey become a legendary knight."
"Hmm," Karl's eyes flashed. "This is good news."
"I believe with the Walker family's strength, obtaining it shouldn't be a problem. Harvey still has hope."
"No!" Nina shook her head. "That valley is called Snake Valley because it's infested with venomous snakes. Two of them are particularly troublesome, and even my father isn't confident he can kill them."
Karl didn't find this strange.
Things imbued with primordial power were mostly third-rank or, at the very least, second-rank.
It was normal to have guardians nearby.
"Miss Nina," Karl smiled. "You wouldn't be asking for my help, would you? This is something even the old master of the Walker family couldn't handle."
"It's different," Nina shook her head. "The very thing my father can't do is what Mr. Cannon is best at. I heard you want to build a wizard tower?"
"..." Karl rubbed his temples.
"Building a wizard tower isn't easy. It often requires the accumulated efforts of a wizard family over several generations." Nina spoke up, "I have a semi-finished one."
"Although it doesn't have the Insight Eye, it has the Starglow Disk and a complete tower base. The base is engraved with the first-rank spell, Starfall."
"If Mr. Cannon is willing to lend a hand, no matter the outcome, it will be the reward you deserve!"
Karl's expression turned thoughtful.
Seeing this, Nina tactfully refrained from pressing further.
This matter wasn't urgent, and there was still much preparation needed. This visit was to familiarize themselves and make preparations.
Even if Karl didn't agree, it wasn't a problem. The Walker family had alternative plans, and the 'Mr. Cannon' before them wasn't even the best choice, as there was a lack of trust between them due to no prior cooperation.
Wizard Tower
Every wizard's dream was to own their own wizard tower, and Karl was no exception.
However, he didn't agree right away but instead went to Old Brin's shop.
"The Walker family?"
Blind-eye Old Brin, holding a skull, replied without looking up, "You should know their style. Compared to other families, they are more trustworthy."
"Yes," Karl agreed, pulling out a chair to sit down. "The Walkers have always had a good reputation. Otherwise, I wouldn't have come to confirm with you."
He would have refused right then!
"The Walkers have a request for you?"
Old Brin raised his head. "Sign a contract, and there shouldn't be any major issues. With your cautious nature, they won't be able to take advantage of you."
"..." Karl shrugged and took out the Gravity Hammer, placing it on the ground. "Take a look at this wizard tool. Can it be fixed?"
The hammer was covered in demon god blood, its surface corroded with numerous pits, and the engraved spell circuits were damaged.
It was a tool he used very skillfully, and it would be a pity to destroy it.
"What did you encounter to make it look like this?" Old Brin examined the hammer, shaking his head repeatedly. "It definitely can't be fixed, but the materials are good. It can be crafted into other weapons."
"I know a master forger..."
