Chapter 177: Huberian Resembles a Human Too Much in Lanchi's Eyes
Chapter 177: Huberian Resembles a Human Too Much in Lanchi's Eyes
"That's wonderful," President Monastic nodded earnestly, listening intently. Not just a leader, but a supporter, he was always concerned about the well-being and growth of his members.
"I'll inform the Alolan Kingdom academic visitation team about this, so you'll be in charge of that matter starting tomorrow," Monastic said.
"No problem. Is there anything else we can help with?" Lanchi asked eagerly.
"Asna and I have already taken care of the immediate troubles, and handing them over to you now would be inefficient. If there are any new problems with the visitation team later, I'll trouble you with that. As for some minor matters, Lanchi, why don't you go visit your father today?" Monastic replied with a smile.
"You two go ahead, I'll stay here to help the President and Vice-President," Fred said, turning to the other two on the sofa.
He knew that Lanchi was also supposed to take Huberian to meet a mysterious woman who could protect her today.
Now was a good time for the two of them to leave together.
"Thanks for your help, Fred," Lanchi and Huberian thanked him promptly.
If the three of them were to split up and ensure safety, it would have to be Fred alone, and Lanchi with Huberian as a pair.
After a brief chat with Monastic and Asna, Lanchi and Huberian left the student council room, leaving the space much quieter in their absence.
Asna returned to her desk and began her busy work, facing a pile of paperwork like an ocean. She and the President had their hands full these days. Meanwhile, Monastic briefly entrusted some tasks to Fred, who then left the student council room as well.
...
Fred walked alone on the third floor of the old humanities building, his footsteps echoing in the empty and spacious corridor.
However, before he reached the staircase, a familiar figure appeared in his line of sight.
Around the corner of the staircase stood a familiar figure, humming a little tune cheerfully with a magic camera hanging around her neck. It was the little reporter who was just about to visit the student council, and also their secretary, a position rarely seen in the student council.
"Hey, Fred!"
Luweishi exclaimed in surprise. "Fred, come over here!"
Upon spotting Fred, Luweishi eagerly waved her hand to get his attention.
Although Lanchi and Huberian hadn't met Luweishi, Fred had joined earlier and had met her once before.
It was after meeting Fred that Luweishi would frequently visit his detective agency to request investigations.
"What's up?" Fred asked, half-covering his eyes with sunglasses, confused as he walked over. Luweishi was a rare customer for him.
"What did the President tell you guys this time? Any juicy gossip?" Luweishi asked, her eyes sparkling with curiosity.
"Not much. He just asked Lanchi to deal with Adams. Oh, and the President did tell us about the grudge between Dean Loren and Knight Captain Julianne," Fred thought for a moment before answering.
"Tell me, tell me!" Luweishi exclaimed, doing a little excited shuffle, clearly eager to hear the scoop.
"You must not report this, nor spread it around. After all, I'm just telling you what I heard," Fred hesitated slightly before stating firmly.
Initially, he didn't want to say anything, but considering that five out of the six student council members already knew, leaving only Luweishi in the dark seemed a bit like they were excluding her.
"I, Luweishi, am always tight-lipped," Luweishi assured, patting her chest.
"Well, it all started with Dean Loren's several fiancees..." Fred began his tale.
"Mhm," Luweishi listened intently, nodding along.
...
On the other side, late in the autumn afternoon at 4 p.m., the blue of the sky deepened a little, yet it remained bright, as if washed by the crisp autumn breeze, appearing clean and clear.
In the Alchemy Court district, at the Ikelite Academy Medical Center.
The Ikelite Academy Medical Center was a flagship hospital directly under the kingdom and one of the largest providers of medical services in the Kingdom of Horton.
This hospital offered comprehensive medical services, including an emergency department, general practitioner services, specialist doctor services, as well as research and educational services.
Conveniently located next to the Alchemy Court, near the avenue, the hospital was easily accessible to students, staff, and residents. Its modern and attractive architecture featured a multi-story glass structure, through which busy activities could be observed from the windows.
During the day, sunlight illuminates the entire building, making it particularly striking against the blue sky. At night, the hospital's internal lighting makes it a shining star in the surrounding night sky.
As the two chatted and walked through the entrance, they found themselves in a spacious and bright lobby.
"I never thought I'd set foot in a hospital," Lanchi said as he entered the building for the first time, despite having passed by it many times before.
"Lanchi, have you ever thought that if you weren't so skilled, you might be a regular here..." Huberian whispered beside him.
"No way, I take good care of my health, and my goal is to stay away from hospitals!" Lanchi replied with a proud laugh.
"Then you're amazing." Huberian could only praise him.
At the front desk, the staff were busy addressing various issues with a consistently friendly and professional attitude.
After Lanchi registered and obtained a visitor's pass, they made their way to the ward area on the upper floor.
The two strolled down the spotless hospital corridor.
"By the way, Lanchi, why is your father here? Didn't you say he was doing trade at the Krexi Empire border?" Huberian asked, puzzled.
"He must be here to check up on my academic progress. I'll definitely show him what I've achieved," Lanchi replied with a serious and determined look in his eyes.
"..." Huberian was certain that Lanchi's academic achievements were solid, solid enough to give someone a heart attack.
As they chatted along the way, they soon reached Noe's private room on the fifth floor of the medical center. After ringing the doorbell and receiving permission, they opened the door.
The single room had its window facing the direction of ample sunlight, allowing natural light to gently stream in. Through the window, the patient sitting on the bed could enjoy the campus scenery outside.
Noe had mostly recovered and was almost back to his old self. However, when he turned his head and noticed that it was Lanchi who had entered instead of a doctor, his pupils dilated slightly in surprise.
"Father, are you feeling alright?" Lanchi asked with concern.
"..."
Noe gritted his teeth, unwilling to answer this unfilial son of his. Every time he thought about those three clerics who had gone astray because of this young man, he couldn't help but want to beg for forgiveness from the goddess of fate.
Noe felt that being a new father, he would surely incur divine punishment sooner or later.
However, when Noe noticed that Lanchi had brought along a classmate, he didn't reprimand Lanchi further.
"And this is..." Noe's attention quickly shifted from Lanchi to Huberian.
He recalled that the butler and maid had mentioned that Miss Tata had ash-gray hair and golden eyes, but the silver-haired, amber-eyed girl standing next to Lanchi was clearly not her.
Moreover, she appeared to be around the same age as Lanchi, not a few years older as he had expected.
Noe worried that his son might be a fickle man, first working hard because of his affection for Miss Tata, and now, as soon as he arrived at the academy, getting involved with another girl.
"Huberian, my classmate, teammate, and good partner," Lanchi stepped aside and introduced her.
"I've heard Lanchi mention you often," Huberian added politely with a nod.
"I see," Noe mumbled as he observed Huberian's calm and rational demeanor. "Miss Huberian, thank you for taking care of my foolish son."
"Not at all, it's mostly him taking care of me," Huberian replied humbly.
"You're too modest. I can tell that being with this guy must be challenging," Noe said, chuckling.
The brief exchange assured Noe that Huberian was a good girl. Moreover, it was evident that she was a normal human being.
Knowing that their relationship was purely platonic, Noe felt relieved, at least for now.
After all, Miss Tata was probably nearing thirty, and if Lanchi wasted these most valuable years of hers and she still didn't get married, Lanchi would be to blame.
However, Noe had no intention of interfering in Lanchi's romantic life.
It didn't matter to him whether Lanchi ultimately favored Miss Tata or Huberian.
As long as Lanchi could be a man who devoted himself wholeheartedly to the girl he loved, that was all that mattered.
Miss Huberian seemed approachable and was likely not some unattainable high noble. She would be a good match for their family.
In truth, Noe had been concerned that Lanchi might get too involved with the daughters of counts or marquises after arriving in the royal capital.
Those were influential figures that a mere border merchant family like theirs could never aspire to.
Noe didn't want Lanchi to get entangled in complex power struggles; their civilian family couldn't withstand such political turmoil.
