Chapter 177: Harvest
Chapter 177: Harvest
【Disciple Might Guy diligently completed the assigned task, earning a growth reward of +300 chakra. Led by the teacher in person, an additional reward of +150 chakra is granted.】
【Disciple Uchiha Obito diligently completed the assigned task, earning a growth reward of +300 chakra. Led by the teacher in person, an additional reward of +150 chakra is granted.】
【Disciple Kakashi Hatake diligently completed the assigned task, earning a growth reward of +300 chakra. Led by the teacher in person, an additional reward of +150 chakra is granted.】
The total reward for these three disciples amounts to 1,350 points of chakra.
Although there are no additional rewards like ninjutsu, this amount of chakra is quite substantial.
It's worth noting that Mu Yue's chakra limit was only around 4,000 at the start, and this single mission has increased it by more than 1,000.
Of course, if one were to solely consider the amount of chakra obtained, repeatedly taking on D-rank missions might yield even higher returns.
By completing ten D-rank missions in a day, Mu Yue would earn 450 points of chakra, which would match the earnings from this A-rank mission in just three days.
However, there are a few issues with solely taking on D-rank missions. First, the students wouldn't gain much improvement; it would be more about checking off tasks without any real growth. Additionally, Konoha doesn't have an abundance of D-rank missions to assign anyway.
In contrast, this A-rank mission provided opportunities for physical training during travel, various forms of cultivation when stationary, encounters with enemy ninjas to gain battle experience, and overall stimulation for growth—all of which contribute to the students' strength development.
Mu Yue glanced at his status panel.
Name: Mu Yue
Chakra: 33,200
The rate of chakra increase was quite favorable, bringing him closer to his goal of 50,000. Just the rewards from his disciples completing their assigned tasks contributed around 2,000 points of chakra.
Instead of returning to his own home, Mu Yue headed directly to Minato's residence.
He was in luck, as Minato was neither out on a mission nor spending time with Kushina. Instead, he was at home reading a book.
Upon seeing Mu Yue, Minato also recalled the matter of the sealing technique scroll and handed over the carefully preserved scroll.
Mu Yue didn't leave immediately after receiving the scroll. Instead, he stayed and chatted with Minato for a while.
"Minato, be extra cautious if you're undertaking any missions abroad soon. You might encounter attacks from Cloud Hidden Village ninjas," Mu Yue warned with a serious expression.
He then proceeded to recount his encounter during the mission and repeated what Hiruzen Sarutobi had said.
There was no need for secrecy regarding this mission, as it wasn't particularly confidential.
"So something like that happened," Minato said, his face turning solemn.
This wasn't a trivial matter. If Konoha believed that their ninjas were being targeted by Stone Hidden Village, they would undoubtedly deploy more ninjas to engage in the war with Stone Hidden Village, intensifying the conflict even further.
Mu Yue's experience on this mission also gave Minato a new perspective on his friend's strength.
Previously, due to Mu Yue's position as a jonin teacher at the Ninja Academy and his subsequent promotion to special jonin based on his outstanding teaching abilities, Minato had assumed that Mu Yue's strength was on par with a jonin.
However, based on the outcome of this mission, Mu Yue's strength might not be as weak as he had assumed. Perhaps his failure to become a jonin earlier was due to insufficient achievements or not meeting other requirements, rather than a lack of strength.
Mu Yue's strength, or lack thereof, didn't affect Minato's friendship with him. Nonetheless, Minato preferred having stronger friends, especially during wartime when anything could happen, and weakness could easily lead to perilous situations.
"I'll be careful," Minato assured him gravely. "You should also be cautious and try to avoid accepting missions related to the Grass and Water Countries."
Those two small countries were the front lines of Konoha's clashes with Stone Hidden Village and Cloud Hidden Village, and as the war progressed, they would only become more dangerous.
Mu Yue smiled and nodded before taking his leave. He didn't intend to venture into such perilous areas for the time being, but he was content to roam the surrounding areas.
Mu Yue had a clear understanding of his current capabilities. At this moment, his output limit was quite high, but he lacked endurance. He could fight a jonin as if they were his son, but against powerful foes like the Third Tsuchikage or the Third Raikage, he would have no choice but to flee using Thunder God's Flight.
The chakra limit was one issue, but there was another significant problem: the rate of chakra recovery.
Mu Yue's chakra recovery speed didn't match his chakra limit.
He understood the reason for this discrepancy. His chakra limit had been increased by the system through unknown means, which set it apart from the normal cultivation process.
Mu Yue's current chakra amount was already more than five times that of an ordinary jonin, but his chakra recovery speed was only slightly better, thanks to his consistent training with the breathing technique.
This meant that Mu Yue would be at a disadvantage in prolonged battles. When everyone's chakra was depleted and they were frantically refining more, Mu Yue's recovery rate would fall short of his peers.
Of course, this problem was less significant compared to the chakra limit issue, as such situations rarely occurred in battles. Nonetheless, it remained a flaw that Mu Yue wanted to address.
He had contemplated various solutions. For instance, following Tsunade's idea of developing a sealing technique to store chakra, he could release the stored chakra when needed, although it was only a temporary solution. Another similar idea was to capture a tailed beast and use it as an energy reservoir, but his current strength didn't permit such an endeavor.
For a more permanent solution, Mu Yue could only think of altering his physique, acquiring the Senju or Uzumaki clan's physique, or even obtaining a Divine Body. With any of these, he wouldn't have to worry about endurance issues.
Upon returning home, Mu Yue began examining the contents of the scroll.
To his surprise, Hiruzen Sarutobi was exceptionally generous this time, imparting three ninjutsu instead of just one.
However, they weren't all sealing techniques; one of them was a Wind Release ninjutsu. Hiruzen had included it because Mu Yue's private tutoring had significantly improved Asuma's abilities, warranting a special reward.
"Vacuum Jade," Mu Yue murmured as he read the name of the Wind Release technique. "Now I have another high-level Wind Release technique that I can use openly."
After all, it was a freebie, and even if he already knew it, Mu Yue felt like he had profited.
Ignoring the Vacuum Jade, which he had already mastered, Mu Yue turned his attention to the remaining two sealing techniques.
"Fire Seal Technique and Evil Sealing Method," he recited the names of the sealing techniques, fragments of memory flashing in his mind.
He recalled that Kakashi had used the Evil Sealing Method to seal the curse mark on Sasuke's body. As for the Fire Seal Technique, its name was self-explanatory.
The sealing techniques of Konoha were largely derived from the Uzumaki clan, and Mu Yue's knowledge of sealing stemmed from Kushina. Thus, he had learned the purest form of Konoha's sealing techniques. After studying these two B-rank sealing techniques for a while, he had a good grasp of their underlying principles.
The Evil Sealing Method, in essence, isolated chakra that did not belong to the original body, serving as a ninjutsu for sealing chakra.
The Fire Seal Technique was slightly different. Instead of sealing chakra, it could seal the flames produced by chakra nature transformation.
Before his reincarnation, Mu Yue had occasionally wondered while watching the anime why no one sealed ninjutsu into scrolls and then used them as weapons.
Now that he had learned sealing techniques, he understood the challenges of such an endeavor. For instance, if he used the Fire Seal Technique to seal the Fireball Jutsu into a scroll, what would be released wouldn't be a moving fireball but a stationary ball of fire, rendering it useless in actual combat.
However, there were sealing techniques that could store and release ninjutsu, such as the Uchiha clan's Transcription Seal. Itachi had implanted Amaterasu into Sasuke's eyes, and Madara Uchiha had sealed Izanagi into his own eyes for resurrection.
Based on his current knowledge of sealing techniques, Mu Yue surmised that this ability was unique to the Sharingan, allowing them to seal their eye techniques within their eyes, unrelated to ordinary ninjas.
Although neither of the two sealing techniques was particularly top-notch, Mu Yue was content. They provided him with a foundation to explore and master more advanced sealing techniques.
By extracting and refining the chakra isolation effect of the Evil Sealing Method, he could mitigate his inherent chakra drawbacks. The Yin Seal, for instance, was a form of sealing that essentially isolated chakra.
In the following days, Mu Yue dedicated most of his time to studying sealing techniques, right up until evening.
He started with the Evil Sealing Method, aiming to quickly master the technique of isolating chakra.
Having studied sealing techniques for almost eight months, Mu Yue was far from a novice. After two hours of practice, his proficiency in the Evil Sealing Method reached fifty.
He didn't intend to use a proficiency scroll on this level of sealing technique; it wasn't worth it, especially since it wasn't the Four Symbols Seal.
Mu Yue guessed that if he wanted to learn the Four Symbols Seal, he would have to ask Minato or Kushina, as Hiruzen might be reluctant to part with it.
The Four Symbols Seal was a more potent sealing technique than the Five Elements Seal. It was the seal used to contain the Nine-Tails within Jiraiya, and within the Uzumaki sealing technique framework, it was among the very best.
Sealing techniques that surpassed the Four Symbols Seal in effectiveness either had restrictions, like the Adamant Binding Chain, which could only be used by members of the Uzumaki clan, or required a significant sacrifice, such as the Reaper Death Seal and the Inner Four Symbols Seal, which demanded the user's life.
Before retiring for the night, Mu Yue reflected on the insights he had gained from this mission.
His strength exceeded his own expectations; even a Blood-Splattered Jonin with 20,000 chakra was no match for him.
In that battle, Mu Yue had held back considerably. If he had wanted to, he could have instantly slain everyone using the Thunder God Tribulation Pattern, harnessing the speed boost provided by the Thunder God's Velocity.
However, he refrained from doing so to hone his combat abilities.
Perhaps due to the influence of the Byakugan and his ability to see through objects, Mu Yue felt no nervousness despite it being his first kill. He also felt surprisingly unaffected after taking a life.
"My enemies are too weak. Even doubling their chakra wouldn't be enough," Mu Yue thought to himself.
While he intended to hone his combat skills, the vast disparity in strength meant that his opponents couldn't withstand even a fraction of his power.
"If I disregard chakra recovery speed, my strength should be on par with Minato and the Fourth Raikage," Mu Yue mused.
He yearned to test his mettle against ninjas of Minato and the Fourth Raikage's caliber. However, revealing himself to Minato wasn't an option yet, and the Fourth Raikage, being the son of the Third Raikage, rarely traveled alone, making a confrontation troublesome.
