Chapter 177: Captain America Arrives (Second Update)
Chapter 177: Captain America Arrives (Second Update)
"Coulson, you handle the base here. Stay alert and protect Thor. I'll go find some help!"
After Jerry left, Fury and Coulson discussed the situation for a long time before making a decision.
Both agreed that, based on Loki's current behavior, he would likely try to eliminate Thor to secure his throne. After all, Thor was the rightful heir, and as long as he lived, Loki’s rule would be unstable. Moreover, Thor was now just a mortal.
However, this was absolutely against Earth's interests.
The only way to maintain peace between Earth and Asgard was to help Thor, who was sympathetic to Earth, regain his powers and return to Asgard to reclaim his throne. Therefore, the first priority was to ensure Thor's safety and then find a scientific way to help him lift Mjolnir.
But Loki was powerful and still the king of Asgard. Jerry and his team alone might not be enough to handle any attacks Loki might launch.
They needed some strong allies.
When Fury mentioned finding help, Coulson's eyes lit up.
"Yes, Captain America?"
Coulson knew that if Shield had any strong allies, it would be Captain America, who had been brought back from the North Pole recently. However, the last time he saw Captain America, he was still frozen.
"Yes, and Iron Man too!"
Fury nodded.
Upon confirmation, Coulson's face showed unmistakable excitement.
"That's great news!"
Despite being in his forties, Coulson was a die-hard fan of Captain America. He still had a collection of Captain America trading cards, the collector’s edition.
Everyone has their little quirks, no matter how mature they are!
"Want a drink?"
At the base's perimeter, Thor was leaning on the iron railing, feeling a cool breeze while reflecting on his actions in Asgard and Jotunheim, and the consequences of his impulsiveness and pride that led to his father's death.
Suddenly, a large glass of beer was placed in front of him.
"Thanks!"
Thor took the beer and drank it all in one gulp.
"Clear as a spring! Flavor-do!"
Jerry waved his wand, and the empty glass first filled with water, which then turned into beer.
"It's hard to believe that someone your age can wield Magic so well. Even in Asgard, few can match your skill!"
Thor praised Jerry, finishing another glass of beer in one go.
Jerry continued to refill his glass with Magic.
"These are just minor tricks compared to Asgard's Magic. I'm actually quite interested in Asgardian Magic, but it's too far to visit."
"Distance isn't an issue with the Bifrost. I—ah."
Thor started to say he could use the Bifrost to bring Jerry to Asgard but remembered he was exiled from Midgard. He sighed.
"If I ever get the chance to return to Asgard, I'll bring back some books on Asgardian Magic to thank you for these beers."
"Deal!"
Jerry didn't reveal to Thor that Loki might be lying and that his father might still be alive.
At this moment, in Thor's eyes, Loki was still his most trusted younger brother. Moreover, Thor was stubborn, so even if someone told him the truth, he probably wouldn't believe it without evidence.
"Mr. Thor, please stand still for a moment!"
Jerry raised his wand and pointed it at Thor.
Thor looked bewildered but complied, standing there. He trusted Jerry and knew Jerry wouldn't use magic to attack him.
"Stasis break!"
As he uttered the incantation, a beam of magical light shot out from the wand and entered Thor's body.
Instantly, Thor's eyes snapped open, a flash of lightning passing through them. Ancient war armor began to surface on his body, and Mjolnir in the center of the base started to tremble violently.
However, before Thor's war armor could fully manifest, a powerful force erupted from within him, causing the armor to vanish quickly. Mjolnir also returned to its tranquil state.
"Looks like it still didn't work!"
Jerry squinted, realizing his Revelio Spell had ultimately failed.
Initially, he thought his magic, which didn't belong to this world, might have a chance to break Odin's seal. But now it seemed the power disparity was too great.
However, it wasn't entirely useless; it did have some effect.
Perhaps, once he upgraded Stasis Break to Omni Undo, he might actually succeed.
"Thank you. Although I haven't fully restored my divine form, I feel my strength has returned somewhat!"
Thor grinned and, with his free hand, squeezed the iron bar next to him, leaving five clear fingerprints on the hard metal.
"Thor?"
Jane, who had just witnessed Thor's transformation, walked over, her face full of wonder.
Jerry silently turned and left, not wanting to be the third wheel.
At the same time, in Asgard, in the Hall of Valhalla where Odin lay in slumber.
The golden sarcophagus containing the sleeping Odin twitched at the corners of his mouth, and he let out a light sigh of relief.
Late at night, in a Shield underground base in New York.
A nearly perfect-built blonde man was hitting a punching bag in a rage.
The room's decor was very peculiar, entirely in the style of the 1940s, with many old objects that modern young people would hardly recognize.
"Ah!"
The blonde man roared, and the punching bag flew five meters away, bursting open.
He took a deep breath, picked up another punching bag from the floor, hung it on the rack, and continued his furious assault.
"Creak!"
The wooden door opened, and a black man with an eye patch slowly walked in.
"Still not sleeping at this hour?"
The blonde man glanced at the one-eyed man, continuing his punches as he replied:
"Sir, I've slept for 70 years; I've had enough!"
"Why not go out and explore the new New York, experience modern life?"
The one-eyed man suggested with a smile.
The blonde man stopped hitting the punching bag, a hint of confusion in his eyes:
"New York is no longer the one I knew, and there are no familiar faces. The war is over."
The one-eyed man sighed and handed over a file:
"In fact, you've only been awake for a week. I shouldn't burden you, but we truly need your help. This time, it's a crisis that threatens the entire Earth!"
According to the original plan, he intended to let the man adapt for at least six months before assigning him any tasks. However, plans had changed, and he had to act sooner.
