Chapter 1760: A War Without Winners (Two Hundred and Ten)
Chapter 1760: A War Without Winners (Two Hundred and Ten)
The news of Fred getting beaten up by Angelina, resulting in two black eyes, spread through Avalon like wildfire, and those who knew the full story found it amusing. No one sympathized with Fred's plight; instead, they reveled in his misfortune and laughed about it for days, believing he deserved it.
Fortunately, the incident was now in the past, and the outcome was relatively satisfactory.
The only issue was the need for some time to communicate with Angelina's new team, the Hollyhead Harpies.
When the team's captain, Gwenog Jones, learned about the situation, her face turned as dark as a pot, and she almost took it out on Fred, who had accompanied Angelina.
Angelina was a key player being cultivated by the team, and her departure would significantly impact team morale.
However, Angelina was already unexpectedly pregnant, making her unfit to continue as a Chaser for the team. Even Gwenog Jones' dissatisfaction couldn't change the current outcome.
Moreover, since Angelina had just joined and wasn't yet an official member of the Hollyhead Harpies, Fred didn't even have to pay a breach of contract fee to smoothly resolve the matter.
But Angelina's pregnancy before marriage caused a stir in both families, especially for Mrs. Weasley. Upon learning that Angelina had completely given up on becoming a Quidditch player, she breathed a sigh of relief and began frequent consultations with the Johnson family regarding the July wedding.
It was unclear if it was a coincidence or if the girls preferred to be pregnant in groups.
Soon after, news of Qiu Zhang's pregnancy spread, and this tremendous news left Cedric Diggory a bit dazed.
He was excited about it for several days.
"It seems like many girls will get pregnant this year."
Shanna's tone was peculiar, as if she wasn't surprised at all.
This was an inevitable situation when couples were together without taking protective measures.
Fortunately, everyone's relationships were relatively stable, preventing any awkward breakups.
"I think the construction of Avalon should be accelerated!" Shanna reminded him.
In fact, the current construction speed of Avalon was already quite fast, and if they wanted it to go even faster, they would have to involve Albert as well.
In the end, Albert agreed to help with the construction whenever he had time, and Isabella would also take time to teach the pregnant girls how to be good mothers, so they wouldn't be overwhelmed when their children were born.
Ginny was a prime example; even though she had done a lot of preparation, she was still overwhelmed when James was born.
Becoming a qualified parent is never an easy task.
Even Isabella herself might not be a perfect mother, but in certain matters, she had more experience than most new mothers and knew what issues to expect and how to handle them calmly.
After learning from Isabella's experiences and insights, the girls would at least have a case to refer to if they encountered similar situations.
Of course, typically, the girls would receive guidance from their own mothers, but their mothers weren't Isabella, who had co-authored several books. In some matters, they might not be as thorough as Isabella, usually recalling things only when needed.
...
"I don't quite understand why you're doing all this.
Fred, still sporting panda eyes, grumbled as he watched the Muggle water pump being set up, and blurted out his question, "Why not just use magic to pump the water up?"
"I don't mind, but you... got beaten up again?"
"No, this is from the last time," Fred said glumly. "I applied some ointment, but it didn't help much."
"She must be holding a grudge. You should have a good talk with her," Albert said, patting Fred's shoulder.
"Talk, my ass."
Fred was tempted to punch George, who was snickering beside him, but he changed the subject, "I still think magic is more practical."
"If you don't believe it, you can try it yourself."
"I will."
Just as Fred was about to attempt it, George stopped him.
"Don't be stupid. If it were that useful, why would Albert do it this way?" George looked up at the water tower, which was built high to provide water pressure for the faucets.
And so, Fred failed, utterly and completely.
Wizards could indeed use magic to manipulate water, but the height of the well and the water tower was beyond the reach of most wizards, which was why Fred's failure didn't surprise Albert at all.
"Even if I did it, it would take much more time, not to mention I don't want to come here every now and then."
"Speaking of which, how does the school manage it? I remember there were quite a few faucets there!" George felt he had discovered a blind spot.
The faucet was not unfamiliar to both Muggles and wizards, but the question was, where was the source, and how was it done?
"Don't you have them at home?"
"Don't look at me. My family secretly connected it to the Muggle water pipes. Dad took a long time to figure it out!" George knew his family's situation, but he wasn't clear about Hogwarts.
"I remember your home is not too far from Ottery St. Catchpole, right?"
"Not very far, just outside Ottery St. Catchpole."
"I thought wizards had invented some magical faucet." Albert scoffed.
"You don't know either."
The twins were surprised, as in their eyes, Albert was almost omniscient.
Albert was actually not very clear about the situation at Hogwarts. He had asked other professors, but the professors at school didn't know either; they only knew that the system had been in use since the 18th century.
As for what to do when it breaks? Well, you just use a spell to fix it. That's the wonder of magic!
After connecting the wires, Albert flipped a switch next to it, and the solar-powered pump started working.
"Muggles always come up with such incredible things." George looked at the switch and sighed softly, "This is much more convenient than using magic."
"We'll use it for now, but there are still a lot of problems to solve for stable use." Albert waved his wand and conjured a few large brushes, handing them to Fred and George.
The twins' expressions dropped when they saw what Albert had given them.
"What's this?" George asked tentatively.
"Of course, we need to clean the water tower first. Otherwise, would you dare to drink the water inside?" Albert signaled that they could start.
"What about you?"
"I'm going to check if there are any problems with the water tower." Albert waved goodbye and left, leaving the Weasley twins dumbfounded.
