Chapter 176: Loki's Trap (First Update)
Chapter 176: Loki’s Trap (First Update)
In reality, the best course of action after his identity was exposed would have been to kill Coulson and Barton.
However, although Jerry wasn’t a good person, he had his own moral boundaries, so he used the Obliviate spell to temporarily erase their memories of the moment they saw his true face.
At the same time, he used the False Memory Charm to replace the memory of Loki breaking his Disguise Charm with the memory of Loki using magic to knock them unconscious.
However, this wasn’t without risks.
The Obliviate spell could indeed make someone forget, but it wasn’t foolproof. If the person’s brain experienced a strong stimulus later, they might remember.
The real problem was that Loki, who knew his true appearance, had escaped. That was a ticking time bomb!
But for now, there was no other choice.
He had never thought he could hide his identity forever, but he wasn’t ready for such a sudden exposure. It would leave him unprepared.
Just as Jerry finished casting his spells, Nick Fury arrived with a large number of S.H.I.E.L.D. agents.
“What’s going on here?”
“Loki, Thor’s brother, appeared, but he doesn’t seem to be friendly!”
Jerry discreetly cast a Reviving Charm on Coulson and Barton, then explained to Fury with a serious expression.
At that moment, Coulson and Barton also woke up due to the Reviving Charm.
Half an hour later, in the base command room.
After listening to the reports from Jerry, Coulson, and Barton, Fury fell into deep thought.
“Don’t you think something’s off?”
“Indeed, Loki’s appearance and his current behavior don’t match what Thor said!”
Coulson nodded in agreement.
“I think you should bring Thor here to ask him more. Loki wouldn’t come here without seeing his brother, and I believe Thor’s mood might be related to Loki!”
Jerry suggested.
Now, Loki’s appearance confirmed beyond a doubt that Asgard existed. However, if Loki was the new king of Asgard, and given his attitude so far, Earth could be in grave danger.
“Coulson, go and bring Mr. Thor here for a talk!”
Fury accepted Jerry’s suggestion.
“What? Loki attacked you? Oh, this is all my fault. Father’s passing must have upset him. He usually enjoys mischief, but he’s not that bad!”
In the base meeting room, Thor’s face was filled with guilt upon learning the details.
At that moment, Jerry furrowed his brow.
“Mr. Thor, what do you mean by your father Odin?”
“Actually, Loki came to Midgard to see me one last time. Father passed away from overwork due to the impending war between Asgard and Jotunheim.
To prevent the war, I, as the one who started this, must be exiled here forever. Only then will Jotunheim agree to stop the conflict!”
Thor explained with a sorrowful expression.
He believed that after seeing him one last time and realizing they would never meet again, Loki’s mood must have been so bad that he clashed with S.H.I.E.L.D.
“Mr. Thor, did your brother Loki tell you all of this?”
Coulson stepped forward and asked.
Thor nodded, speaking earnestly.
“If Loki has caused you any trouble, I, as his brother, apologize on his behalf! As the protectors of the Nine Realms, we Asgardians have a duty to protect you weaker humans.”
"Ah, it's fine, Mr. Thor. Please go back and rest. I offer my condolences regarding your father."
Nick Fury narrowed his single remaining eye, his tone laced with a hint of deep meaning.
After Thor left the room, Nick Fury turned to Coulson.
"What do you think?"
"I believe Mr. Thor's brother isn't as good as he claims. If we set aside Thor's emotional factors and analyze the events objectively, it seems more like a trap!"
Coulson, being a top agent, certainly wasn't lacking in analytical skills.
Moreover, it's often the case that those involved are confused, while outsiders see things more clearly. Thor, being at the center of the events and overly trusting of his brother Loki, was easily led around by the nose.
Of course, it's also possible that Thor simply isn't very bright, and even as an outsider, he might not have been able to figure out the truth.
From Coulson's perspective, from the Frost Giants attacking Asgard's treasury on the day Thor ascended to the throne, to Thor impulsively leading a group to Jotunheim to start a war, and then being exiled to Earth by Odin, these events don't seem like coincidences at all.
They appear to be a carefully orchestrated trap, targeting Thor's impulsive nature, with the ultimate beneficiary being Loki, who now holds the throne of Asgard.
Fury nodded as Coulson explained, clearly agreeing with his reasoning.
"Given Loki's attitude, if he truly becomes the king of Asgard, it could be troublesome!"
In Fury's view, Loki doesn't seem to regard humans as equals, and if the speculation is correct, Loki is undoubtedly an ambitious individual. It's hard to imagine him remaining as friendly as before once he becomes the king of Asgard.
"Wizard Miss, do you have any suggestions?"
At this point, Fury turned his gaze to Jerry, who had been deep in thought since Thor left the room.
"None, I'm not an agent, so I'm not good at analyzing intelligence. I only specialize in magic. If you find Loki again, let me know, and I'll use my magic to help you deal with him!"
Jerry waved her hand, not particularly interested in hearing any further plans from Fury and Coulson, and left the meeting room.
She knew that Coulson's analysis was probably correct, at least Odin's death wasn't due to the stress of the Frost Giants' war, as Loki claimed. That was just ridiculous!
If Odin had died of old age, she might have believed it, but the idea of him succumbing to war stress? Only Thor would buy that.
And if she remembered correctly, in Avengers One, Thor was able to return to Earth from Asgard because Odin used his own power to send him back.
Jerry's main concern now was whether Loki was still on Earth or had already returned to Asgard, and how she could find him or eliminate him to protect her true identity.
So, rather than listening to Coulson and Fury's endless analysis, it would be better to approach Thor and build some rapport, to gather more information about Loki.
Moreover, Loki wouldn't just let Thor off the hook. There must be more to come, otherwise, in Avengers One, the Bifrost Bridge connecting the Nine Realms wouldn't have been damaged, and Loki wouldn't have been exiled into space.
