Chapter 175: Duel Between Mages (Third Update)
"Stupefy! Stupefy!"
The moment his identity was exposed, Jerry immediately cast a Sleeping Charm on the somewhat stunned Coulson and Hawkeye Barton.
Then he quickly glanced at the nearby surveillance cameras. Seeing that they had all been destroyed by the Golden Lightning Loki had just released, he felt a slight relief.
With the surveillance equipment destroyed and the other agents in the vicinity mostly neutralized by Loki's Golden Lightning, the only ones who had seen his true face were Coulson, Hawkeye Barton, and Loki himself.
He could deal with Coulson and Hawkeye Barton later using Obliviate and Memory Charm. As for Loki, things were more complicated.
Initially, he had no intention of engaging Loki in combat because he was concerned that capturing Loki here might affect the storyline of Avengers: Age of Ultron.
In Avengers: Age of Ultron, Loki is exiled into space, where he encounters Thanos. Thanos gives Loki the Mind Staff and tasks him with using the Space Gem to open a portal and bring the Chitauri Army to Earth.
If Loki were captured now, Thanos might send other subordinates, and Jerry would lose the advantage of knowing the familiar Avengers: Age of Ultron storyline.
However, now that Loki knew his true identity, he had to take precautions and eliminate the threat.
Loki was an extremely cunning and ruthless individual. In Avengers: Age of Ultron, he had devised specific plans to exploit the weaknesses of each hero.
Jerry feared that Loki, knowing his identity, might target his family—Hass and Elsa—when he returned.
Therefore, he had no choice but to act first and find a way to kill Loki here.
As for how the Avengers: Age of Ultron storyline might be affected, he could no longer afford to worry about it.
"Interesting, you must have some secrets!"
Seeing Jerry expose his identity and immediately incapacitate his teammates, Loki's face lit up with interest.
"Sometimes, knowing too many secrets can be dangerous!"
A flash of killing intent crossed Jerry's face. With a wave of his wand, a massive Fire Dragon formed and roared as it charged toward Loki.
This was the Dragonfire Spell he had invented at Hogwarts.
Loki did not dare to be complacent. Pointing his golden spear, he released a thick bolt of lightning that split the Fire Dragon in two.
However, as he turned to look at Jerry, he found that his opponent had vanished.
"Invisibility Spell? It won't work on me!"
Loki raised his hand to cast an Anti-Invisibility spell but suddenly sensed something and quickly raised his golden spear in front of him.
Dozens of Silver Needles were instantly vaporized by the lightning wrapped around the golden spear, which exploded into powder.
"Avada Kedavra!"
Just as Loki deflected the Silver Needles, a green beam of light struck him precisely in the back.
Jerry had circled around and used the deadly Killing Curse.
"Still alive!"
Seeing Loki, who had been hit by the Killing Curse, let out a painful scream and bleed profusely but did not die as expected, Jerry's face changed.
Indeed, the Killing Curse was fatal 100% of the time for ordinary humans and wizards, but it was not absolute for beings with exceptionally strong life forces.
For example, a powerful Fire Dragon could not be killed by a typical wizard's Killing Curse, even if it hit perfectly.
Loki's body flows with the bloodline of the Frost Giants, making his physical constitution incredibly strong. Even a face full of explosives wouldn't leave a single scratch, and a Killing Curse would only wound him, not kill him outright.
Unless, of course, he stood still while Jerry hit him with a dozen Killing Curses in a row, which might do the trick.
Therefore, the Killing Curse is more effective against wizards with average constitutions, but it is far less effective against powerful warriors and large creatures.
"Midgardian wizard, how dare you! Die!"
With blood streaming from his seven orifices, Loki turned and fired a massive bolt of lightning at Jerry. Jerry, still invisible, quickly cast an Armor Charm, then rolled away before it shattered.
"Disarming Charm!"
A blue beam of magic shot toward Loki, and the golden spear in his hand flew out.
As the fight continued, Jerry realized that Loki's strength was actually average. While his constitution was formidable, his primary means of attack seemed to be the strange golden spear in his hand.
So, when dodging an attack, Jerry switched to a Disarming Charm, aiming to disarm Loki first.
Loki was greatly alarmed when he lost his golden spear. The spear, capable of firing massive lightning attacks, was Gungnir, a divine weapon from Asgard and the weapon of All-Father Odin.
He had taken it while his father was in a deep slumber.
Without Gungnir, his power would be significantly diminished.
"Sectumsempra!"
Jerry's wand flicked again, and several invisible blades shot toward Loki.
However, the blades passed through Loki as if he were a phantom, striking the ground behind him instead.
"Illusion Magic!"
Jerry quickly looked toward where Gungnir had been disarmed, and sure enough, Loki's figure reappeared, holding Gungnir in his hand.
"Midgardian wizard, I will remember you!"
After retrieving Gungnir, Loki did not launch another attack on Jerry. Instead, he angrily uttered a threat and vanished on the spot.
Loki was not like Thor, who would fight to the death for the honor of a warrior. He was cunning and, upon realizing that he might die if he continued the fight, immediately retreated.
Now that All-Father Odin was in a deep sleep and Thor had been stripped of his divine powers and exiled to Midgard, Loki was the rightful heir to the throne of Asgard.
As long as he followed his plan and killed the Frost Giant leader, Laufey, and destroyed Jotunheim with the Bifrost, his reputation in Asgard would be unmatched. Even if All-Father Odin awoke, it would not change his status.
At that point, he could send the Asgardian army to conquer Midgard and eliminate this wizard who had dared to wound him.
In his view, as a king, he didn't need to handle such matters personally. He could leave the fighting to his subordinates.
So, for his own safety, returning to Asgard was the best course of action.
Seeing Loki disappear, Jerry used a Smokescreen Scouting Charm to scout the area, just in case it was a trap, before dispelling his Disguise Charm and revealing himself.
The Smokescreen Scouting Charm, a detection spell from the Morgana School that can reveal Illusion Magic and invisibility, had once been used by Hogwarts to uncover Jerry's Disguise Charm.
Hearing the sound of many footsteps approaching from a distance, Jerry didn't waste any time. He hurried to the unconscious Coulson and Barton, whom he had put to sleep with a Sleeping Charm, and began to cast Obliviate and Memory Charms on them.
