Chapter 174: Pokemon Tavern, Now Open!
Chapter 174: Pokemon Tavern, Now Open!
The rain came and went quickly. The grass was damp, and the riverbank was muddy. Naoki had no desire to trudge through the mud, so his interest in fishing waned.
He returned to his room and began preparing the three fish he had caught, planning to cook them in three different ways: braised, steamed, and deep-fried.
In the afternoon, Naoki took a trip to Soak Town and purchased an outdoor camping tent from the department store.
Upon returning with the tent, he set it up with the help of his Pokemon crew on a clean lawn, not too close to the house but also not too secluded.
Budew expressed confusion at Naoki's actions.
"Ba Mo?" it inquired.
Naoki explained, "That's because in a few days, I plan to renovate our house, and we won't have a place to stay during that time. So, we need to prepare in advance."
He then began to paint a picturesque scene of their upcoming camping experience: "On a summer night, with the cool breeze blowing across the ranch, we'll lie in the tent, gazing at the stars above and listening to the cicadas singing in the mountains. When we feel sleepy, we'll just drift off to sleep."
"Ba Mo..." Budew responded, intrigued.
Hearing this, the group of Pokemon was soon captivated, their faces filled with anticipation.
Naoki, gazing at the tent before him, let his mind wander to another idea.
He thought of the video game Animal Crossing: New Horizons. In this game, players could set up a tent on their island, and occasionally, animal villagers would come to visit and camp.
If the player and a villager hit it off, the player could invite the animal to move in and become a permanent resident of the island.
This sparked a question in Naoki's mind: Could he invite wild Pokemon to come and camp in a similar fashion? He thought it might be possible, but not without its challenges.
Wild Pokemon typically had fixed habitats and rarely ventured far from them for travel or residence, let alone camping in an unfamiliar place.
However, his encounters with Teddiursa and Mew kept reminding him that wild Pokemon did have their own information and social networks.
He wondered, if he spread the word, would it attract any curious Pokemon? It was common knowledge that there were many Pokemon in this world with unique personalities and interests.
Perhaps a particular Pokemon with an adventurous spirit might be lured by the idea of camping.
The more Naoki thought about it, the more feasible it seemed.
Taking it a step further, he envisioned opening a tavern exclusively for Pokemon, serving Pokeblock juice and Moomoo Milk as beverages.
He could spread the word that a human—himself—at the Naoki Ranch was willing and able to help Pokemon with their problems. Any Pokemon in need of assistance could come to the tavern to seek help.
He could enlist the traveling Teddiursa and Mew to spread the word about the Pokemon tavern as they journeyed across the world.
He could offer healing services, a listening ear, and guidance to Pokemon in need, transitioning from a mere ranch owner to a Pokemon priest, guiding lost souls toward the right path.
After all, spending his days alone on the ranch could get rather boring.
With such a tavern, he could eavesdrop on the little gossip the Pokemon shared and learn more about their world.
And who knew, if he encountered fluffy Pokemon with pleasant personalities and a good rapport, he might even get a few pats in.
This way, even without leaving his ranch, he could meet and interact with a diverse range of Pokemon.
Deep in thought, Naoki didn't notice Motostoke was calling out to him.
After a while, he snapped back to reality and asked, "Yes, Motostoke? What is it?"
Motostoke's eyes sparkled with anticipation as it replied, "Gao..."
It wasn't just Motostoke; the other Pokemon nearby wore similar expressions of eagerness.
Naoki glanced at them and then at the tent, instantly understanding their unspoken request.
These Pokemon had been captivated by the idyllic scene he had described and couldn't wait to spend the night in the tent that very evening!
Naoki grinned and said, "Of course! I'll bring a bedspread, and we can all camp here together tonight!"
The Pokemon cheered, shouting their approval and praising Naoki.
True to his word, Naoki fetched a bedspread and, while he was at it, dug out an old-fashioned camping lantern from the storeroom, placing it in front of the tent.
Just then, a crisp cry rang out from the sky above.
Naoki paused, then looked up, curious.
Naoki was puzzled when he suddenly noticed something in Swellow's talons.
Naoki instantly realized that Teddiursa had sent him something again.
It was quite a coincidence, as he had just been thinking about Teddiursa, and now he had received a message from him.
Naoki first thanked Swellow with a smile, then reached out to take the item that Teddiursa had sent.
It was another drawing done in crayon, but this time the picture showed a basket filled with snacks, with two happy smiling faces beside it.
Seeing this, Naoki knew that Teddiursa and Mew had received the food he sent them before.
He breathed a sigh of relief and glanced at the item Teddiursa had found, which turned out to be a broken Super Ball, barely usable for collection.
Seeing that the item had been delivered, the Swellow turned to fly away.
Naoki hurriedly called out to stop it, then went back into the house to fetch some food and the camera he had bought in town earlier.
The camera was similar to an instant camera, the kind that produced photos right after taking a shot, which would be perfect for Teddiursa to use.
"These foods are for you, and I have a favor to ask," Naoki said. "Please deliver this camera to Teddiursa and Mew for me."
Swellow cocked its head, examining the items for a moment before nodding and taking the camera strap in its beak.
Naoki continued, "There's one more thing."
The Swellow, about to take off, looked back at him.
Naoki felt a bit embarrassed as he shared his idea about the "Pokemon Tavern" with Swellow:
"...If you can find them, please help me pass on a message to Teddiursa and Mew. Tell them that I plan to open a Pokemon Tavern here, where I will provide healing services and emotional support for Pokemon.
In addition, any Pokemon facing difficulties they can't solve on their own are also welcome to come here. They can play or camp, and I'll be happy to host them however they wish."
Hearing this, Swellow's eyes widened in surprise.
It stared at the human in front of it for a moment before turning to leave the ranch.
Finally, the camera would be delivered! Naoki heaved a long sigh of relief.
Three days later, in a dense forest in the Kanto region.
Ever since they received the food from Naoki last time, Teddiursa and Mew had been worried about missing any deliveries from him. So, they stayed longer in each new place they visited.
Now, seeing the Swellow returning with something, both Teddiursa and Mew wore expressions of happiness and anticipation.
"Yime!"
"Miu!"
Soon, the Swellow landed in front of them.
The three Pokemon drooled at the sight of the food in the basket. Teddiursa and Mew generously shared the snacks with Swellow.
After they finished eating, Swellow handed over the camera and conveyed the message from the human to Teddiursa and Mew.
Teddiursa, who was fiddling with the camera, paused and hung it around his neck. Hearing the message, he looked surprised and asked, "Yime?"
Mew also tilted her head, looking at the Swellow.
In response to their curious gazes, Swellow nodded slightly.
Teddiursa and Mew exchanged a glance, feeling both touched and delighted.
A few days ago, they had encountered a Pokemon in need of help.
It was a Ninetales, and Mew could sense that its life force was slowly fading away, causing it to appear listless, as if it were about to die.
Teddiursa had wanted to help, but they had no idea how to assist the Ninetales, and ultimately, they could only sadly watch as it fell into a deep sleep in the wilderness.
At that time... if only Naoki had been there! He might have been able to help that Ninetales, whether through guidance or healing.
After all, Naoki was an amazing human, kind and intelligent, with a talent for creating magical cuisine. There was nothing he couldn't do.
Holding the camera in his paws, Teddiursa felt deeply touched.
"Yime..." (Naoki must have known about the difficulties we've been facing, so he came up with this idea...)
Mew blinked in agreement with Teddiursa's words.
She looked delighted. "Miu!" (Then Naoki will also be a member of our Adventuring Team from now on!)
