Chapter 174: Lanchi's Epic Loot
Chapter 174: Lanchi's Epic Loot
In the pitch-black liminal space, adorned only by sparse stars, the trio received their respective rewards.
However, as they inspected the three magic cards and items before them, they couldn't help but feel intrigued.
Unbound and unclaimed, the items were still in their sealed state, but their effects could easily be discerned through identification magic.
The orange epic card in Lanchi's hand was particularly extraordinary, exuding a frosty mist and a shimmering aura of lustrous light.
At the center of the card, a mysterious necklace seemed to appear and disappear. The chain was formed from agile, non-corporeal silver light, and the pendant was a teardrop-shaped luli stone that reflected different colors in the light. Below the pendant, a line of tiny ancient text was inscribed, incomprehensible to the viewers, yet it was clear that the luli teardrop radiated a warm glow, like a luminous pearl dispelling the darkness and banishing death.
[Immortal Luli Tear]
[Category: Equipment Card]
[Grade: Orange Epic]
[Attribute: Enhancement/Regeneration]
[Rank: 4]
[Effect: When equipped, the more buffs and debuffs on the wearer, the greater the damage reduction and attribute enhancement received. Immune to fatal damage, restoring the wearer to full status. Cooldown: 30 days. Cannot be stacked with other cards that provide damage reduction or immunity to fatal damage.]
[Note: On the fifth night, when everyone else had perished and the Sun's son would never see another dawn, the wolf offered its heart, and the witch gave her blood. Witnessing the Sun's son return from hell, Viscount Augustine felt fear for the first time.]
"With this equipment, Lanchi, you'll become an impenetrable tank. Same-level mages won't be able to lay a finger on you," exclaimed Hyperian in awe.
She couldn't fathom how formidable a tank Lanchi would be with this card.
His ability to consistently draw aggro was already impressive.
Moreover, this card perfectly filled the gap in Lanchi's collection, as he lacked a magic card that granted immunity to fatal damage.
Cards with such an effect were exceedingly rare, usually pink sacred-tier or higher, and they couldn't be stacked.
Hyperian's own card had been a masterpiece passed down by her father, Duke Miga.
As she pondered, her gaze shifted to the magic card in her hand.
[Warm Embrace of the Witch]
[Category: Equipment Card]
[Grade: Pink Sacred]
[Attribute: Counter]
[Rank: 5]
[Effect: When equipped, triggers a one-time magical shield that can withstand an 8th-tier attack when the wearer is threatened with lethal damage. Cooldown: 24 hours.]
[Note: The witch has faded away, becoming an eternal warm embrace. The Sun's son carries yet another epitaph, but he continues his lonely journey, awaiting the day when humanity regains its light.]
Hyperian held up the magic card, and under the starlight, the shape of the equipment became clearer. Unlike Lanchi's necklace, hers was a delicate earring crafted from silver metal that shimmered like starlight. The earring's droplet-shaped gemstone featured subtle curves and a lustrous finish, evoking a sense of warmth as if it carried the silent wishes of an ancient witch.
Overall, it was a versatile and valuable card that anyone could use.
Although pink sacred cards became permanently bound to the user, sacrificing five card slots to acquire such a lifesaving piece of equipment was well worth it.
Unlike Hyperian and Lanchi, whose rewards were magic cards, Frey received a material item.
It was a stone carefully carved by time and magic, its surface covered with a peculiar silver-gray texture, but it was, in fact, a heart. Under specific lighting conditions, one could even observe the flowing light within, a flickering miracle of magic.
Just touching it, one could sense the pulsating vitality, imbued with the pride and will of an absolute powerhouse.
[Proud Heart of the Wolf King]
[Category: Magic Item]
[Grade: Orange Epic]
[Attribute: Regeneration/Seal]
[Rank: 1]
[Effect: The heart of the descendant prince of the wolf clan can be used as the highest-grade regenerative or sealing material.]
[Note: The werewolf still clings to life, sealed away by the Sun's son beneath a cliff. Devoid of his heart, he has almost lost his wolf clan powers, but under the moonlight, he may awaken once more after several hundred years.]
Frey could only look at Lanchi helplessly.
While this material was undoubtedly on par with any finished epic magic card, it couldn't be used directly.
It would require a card maker of at least Platinum rank to harness its potential.
Among those he knew and trusted, Lanchi was the only one qualified.
As the information about the Shadow World updated, a familiar series of Shadow World quests appeared, just like after their previous challenge—
[Series Shadow World—Blood Moon Calamity, Historical Coordinates Anchored. Current Completion: 2/4]
[Before the end of the series, there is a higher probability that the current challengers will enter the third node of "Blood Moon Calamity."]
[Quest Objective: Clear the final node with an SSS-rank rating.]
Although they didn't know what the reward would be for completing this final series quest, they were certain it wouldn't be anything less than epic.
"By the way, do these three rewards and their notes tell the story of the original history corresponding to this Shadow World?" Frey asked, glancing at the magic cards and items in their possession. It seemed that the card art and the notes together painted a tragic tale.
"Indeed, it's a tragedy," Hyperian sighed.
If they hadn't identified the traitor on the first day, those five days and nights would have been a nightmare. Given the traitor's strength and the blood clan's powers, the chances of victory for the other church members were slim.
And even if they had won, it would have been a devastating victory, perhaps more painful for the survivors than death.
As they chatted, Lanchi remained silent, his eyes fixed on the orange epic card in his hand.
"..."
After a moment's thought, Lanchi spoke up, "Frey, how about I trade this teardrop necklace for your werewolf heart?"
He looked at Frey, awaiting his response.
It was challenging to assess the value of [Immortal Luli Tear] and [Proud Heart of the Wolf King].
One offered stability, while the other depended on the card maker's skills.
In Lanchi's eyes, they were of equal worth.
With the growing number of orange epics in his collection, he had fewer slots available for other magic cards.
Even the top eighth-tier powerhouses of their time typically didn't bind too many orange epic or pink sacred magic cards.
It was a permanent and irremovable epic card, and one had to be extremely careful when choosing to use it.
Lanchi felt that he wasn't suitable to use up a permanent four-cost card to play as a tank.
When it came to taking damage, the situation would undoubtedly be close to a rout.
On the other hand, Frey could also use this epic card, and with it, he might be able to create an even more suitable sealing-type magic card for himself.
Lanchi had a feeling that this was the right choice.
Two months later, during the winter break, he would have to create a new alias when he went to the Northern Continent.
To ensure he wouldn't be recognized, he couldn't use the two iconic epic magic cards, Great Loving Poet and Radiant Virtue, which he had already used in public.
The only card he had that hadn't been seen by anyone else was Beautiful Melody, obtained in the Inferno Choir College, which could summon the Inferno Choir. He could use this as his new ace card when he went to the Northern Continent.
However, just having this one control card wasn't enough.
He also needed a new core ace card and even develop a second profession as a Seal Master.
"No problem," Frey replied, understanding Lanchi's intention. He was willing to spend one of his four card slots to permanently bind himself to this equipment.
If he obtained the Immortal Luli Tear, Frey was confident that he would be stronger than even the Saint of Destruction in a one-on-one battle, regardless of the terrain.
Frey then promptly handed over the Proud Heart of the Wolf King to Lanchi, who, in turn, gave him the Immortal Luli Tear.
"This heart..." Lanchi touched the heart, which seemed to resonate with his heartbeat, and he felt a strange pull on his soul, as if there was an unspoken connection between them. The only certainty was that their compatibility was exceptional.
He remembered how Talia had murmured about feeling a soul resonance like never before when she obtained the Poem of Mercy, and she was convinced that she was the only one who could turn this material into a masterpiece.
At the time, Lanchi couldn't comprehend the feeling Talia had described.
But now, he thought he understood.
He even felt a sense of urgency to start crafting a magic card with the Proud Heart of the Wolf King as the core material!
After sending off the academic delegation from the Kingdom of Arolan, he could focus on card crafting.
"By the way, when we return, the Arolan Kingdom team will already be at the school..." Hyperion looked at the door of the liminal space with a worried expression, obviously concerned about being separated from the two of them.
There was an elite hidden member of the Resurrection Sect in the Arolan Kingdom's delegation, and she could be killed if she was alone.
"When the three of us are not in the student council, I'll summon Great Loving Poet to stay with you in your dormitory. Having her by your side is almost like having me there." Lanchi turned his gaze from the Proud Heart of the Wolf King and looked at Hyperion as he spoke.
After reaching the fourth tier, Lanchi's spirit had grown significantly once more. His maximum mana, mana recovery speed, spell resistance, and other attributes had also improved significantly, allowing him to maintain the summoning state of Great Loving Poet for extended periods without issue.
During the day, when the three of them were together, there wouldn't be any problems. At night, when they separated, Great Loving Poet would accompany Hyperion in her dorm.
He would also give her the Radiant Virtue and Beautiful Melody cards.
In the event of an incident, with Great Loving Poet and Hyperion working together, it would be almost like having Lanchi himself present.
Typically, summoned beings couldn't use the summoner's magic cards, but Great Loving Poet was an exception. Not only was she highly intelligent and skilled in card crafting and usage, but she could also use all of Lanchi's soul-bound magic cards, although the mana consumption would be borne by Lanchi.
"What about you, then?" Hyperion asked worriedly.
Without Great Loving Poet, Lanchi himself would be in danger, especially since maintaining her summoning state would constantly deplete his mana, leaving him in a less than optimal state.
"I'll stay with Frey these few days," Lanchi said, patting Frey's shoulder.
After all, Frey also lived on the first floor of the Knights' College, and the dorms were quite spacious.
"Then we can play cards all night long," Frey said with a smile to Lanchi.
Together, these two brothers could solve any case that came their way.
"In that case, I'll be staying with Lanfu for a few days," Hyperion nodded in agreement.
She actually enjoyed spending time with Great Loving Poet, and she was the first girl with whom Great Loving Poet could interact without any reservations.
Perhaps it was because Great Loving Poet was a demon herself.
"Take care of her," Lanchi requested.
Lanchi couldn't control Great Loving Poet like he could other summoned beings. Great Loving Poet had her thoughts and ideas and would make her decisions.
Once she was out of his sight, Lanchi had no way of knowing what she would do, and they could only communicate through their mental connection.
Even when giving her instructions, he would usually phrase it as a request.
There was no other summoned being like Great Loving Poet, who would consider the summoner's request before deciding whether or not to comply.
So, when out of his sight, Lanchi needed someone to keep an eye on her, or he wouldn't be at ease.
"I will," Hyperion nodded.
Now that she thought about it, she was quite happy about the prospect of spending every day with Lanfu.
After a while, the three of them chatted idly as they walked towards the void gate that would take them back to the mortal world.
"Let's meet the academic delegation from the Kingdom of Arolan," Lanchi said.
"We must be friendly to our international friends, showcase the high caliber of Ikelite people, and work together to build a civilized city," Frey added.
"... ."
The three of them chatted and laughed as they bid farewell to their unforgettable five-day trip to the ancient castle on the cliff.
No matter what.
Their wonderful Ikelite campus life was about to begin again!
The following campus stories will be released:
