Chapter 1734: A War with No Winners (Part 184)
Chapter 1734: A War with No Winners (Part 184)
"This sprite broke into your home and attacked you last night?"
Harry stared at the sprite's body lying on the ground and then looked up at the irritated middle-aged wizard, letting out a soft sigh. He couldn't believe that the first day after his vacation ended, he would encounter such a mess.
Normally, a situation like this wouldn't require the involvement of an Auror team. Unfortunately, ever since the relationship with the sprites soured, the Ministry of Magic had become cautious in handling these matters. Who knew what those crazy sprites might do next?
"Yes, this guy is a madman. I had a verbal argument with him at a bar, and he took advantage of the night... If it weren't for the fact that I purchased dangerous warning devices to prevent Dark Wizards from buying them last time, he might have succeeded. You know, in that situation, I had to protect myself."
"So, you didn't have a grudge, and it was just a verbal argument at the bar?"
The middle-aged Auror who came with Harry furrowed his brows slightly.
He suspected the man was lying because the situation was too bizarre.
He didn't believe the sprites were that crazy, but no matter how he looked at it, it wasn't the other party's fault. It was normal for him to fight back fiercely when attacked in his own home at night.
On the contrary, the sprite's death from concentrated Dark Magic seemed more like an accident.
However, since the incident involved sprites, they had to be cautious in handling it, and the body needed to be taken back for examination.
As for the use of Dark Magic, there was no other choice.
Ever since Voldemort started the Second Wizarding War, many wizards had learned Dark Magic to protect themselves. To make an issue out of this would be stirring up trouble, and they might face retaliation from others.
After all, it served him right for dying in someone else's home in the middle of the night.
So, Harry and the others didn't make things difficult for the man, as he was, in the end, just a victim.
After returning to the Ministry of Magic, Ron immediately searched through the files for information about the deceased.
"This guy is a radical member of the Sprite Brotherhood," he said, spreading his hands to his colleagues, "Those guys have always been more aggressive, but this is the first time they've gone as far as breaking into someone's home like mad dogs."
"This whole thing is strange. I don't believe that a mere verbal argument would drive someone to go crazy and rush into someone's home to take revenge," Harry said, still unwilling to believe such a thing as he took the sprite's information from Ron.
"So, what do you think?"
The middle-aged Auror was troubled about how to write this report, and they still had to deal with an interview from the Prophet Daily.
"Perhaps that guy wanted to murder the other party to create a conflict," Harry suspected someone was trying to provoke a third sprite rebellion.
There were two suspects: the sprites or Nelson's group.
It was possible that the sprite had been controlled by the Imperius Curse, causing him to act irrationally.
But Harry didn't say this, as he had no evidence.
Normally, Harry wouldn't have made such a connection, but after experiencing so many messes, he realized that some things weren't as simple as they seemed on the surface. Those incomprehensible matters might hide certain secrets.
Harry shared this concern with Kingsley during a private meeting. He knew that some of Kingsley's actions were indeed unpopular, but he also didn't want Nelson's group to provoke a third sprite rebellion out of revenge. That would be a terrible disaster.
As for whether his actions were correct or not,
Harry wasn't sure. He had asked Albert about this, and the latter's response was for Harry to mind his own business.
"According to various sources, Nelson and the others do have such intentions, but they are still preparing. Before they take action, we can't possibly do anything without any evidence."
Kingsley tried to reassure Harry.
"I understand your concerns, but given the recent radical actions of the sprites, it wouldn't be surprising if something happened between the two sides. The Ministry of Magic can't make concessions at this time."
Kingsley had said this more than once. He could see that Harry was worried about the future of the British Wizarding World, but sometimes, things were just helpless, especially in politics. If Harry didn't make changes, he might not be suitable for this path.
Soon, the Director of the Auror Office, Gawain Robards, delivered the report to Kingsley.
"We've sent people to negotiate with the sprites, but they are very unfriendly and believe that this is all our conspiracy," Robards paused, then continued, "Especially the members of the Sprite Brotherhood, who are trying to attack our employees and provoke conflicts between the two sides."
"They never intended to restrain the Sprite Brotherhood and have made up their minds to provoke conflicts between sprites and wizards, leading to a third sprite rebellion?" Kingsley narrowed his eyes slightly, and a strange light flashed in his eyes.
"At least some of the sprites do want to do that. A third sprite rebellion seems inevitable."
"I understand. Let's reveal the 'truth' then. Remember to remind everyone to stay away from the 'Sprite Brotherhood' group of lunatics," Kingsley said, looking at his Auror Director, and continued, "You also need to be prepared. We can't compromise on this matter."
Kingsley wouldn't proactively provoke a conflict with the sprites; he cared about his reputation.
However, if he didn't take action, someone else would.
This was something Nelson did privately. He used the Imperius Curse to control members of the Sprite Brotherhood, causing these crazy sprites to clash with wizards, and then he killed the sprites to provoke the Sprite Brotherhood and trigger a third sprite rebellion.
Kingsley didn't want this to happen, but he also realized that to achieve his goals, he needed to defeat the sprites who incited the rebellion to gain control over Gringotts.
"However, we can't rush this matter," Kingsley said, looking at the communication bookmark in his hand.
After all, it would be at least half a year before Albert left the United Kingdom to travel the world. Starting a conflict now would make it difficult to resolve in the future.
Ever since Albert decided to distance himself from these troubles, Kingsley realized that some things needed to be concluded.
After all, even someone like Albert thought so, and he didn't believe he could clean up that mess. It was better to make a deal with Nelson and eliminate the potential threat.
There were some things Kingsley couldn't handle, but as a revenger, Nelson had no such concerns.
As for the consequences, what consequences could there be when people were already dead?
At most, Kingsley, who would be left to clean up the mess, would have a hard time.
