Chapter 173: Lost in Bliss
Chapter 173: Lost in Bliss
Haxorus and the Axew, including the shiny one, settled into life on the ranch. Naoki assumed their temperaments wouldn't differ much from Garchomp—docile and a bit dopey.
But aside from the dopey part, he couldn't have been more wrong.
In just a few days, the ranch's Pokemon were driven crazy by their antics.
They pestered the Ride Goat for its grass dumplings, harassed Claydol to fly them around in aerial chases, and even got stuck in a Diglett's burrow, unable to wriggle free...
And when he went fishing, they sneaked into the water and hooked Magikarp onto his line.
He thought he'd caught something huge, but when he reeled in his line, all he saw was a Magikarp flopping about, using Splash.
It didn't stop there; they also hung all sorts of things on his hook—glass bottles, old boots they'd found somewhere, and even themselves!
One evening, just as Zach was coming to collect the day's yield, he witnessed Naoki pull a Horsea out of the water.
Zach was astounded. He exclaimed that Naoki's fishing skills had reached a divine level, allowing him to catch Pokemon like Axew. He predicted that Naoki would surely excel in the upcoming fishing contest.
It took some explaining, but eventually, Naoki managed to make Zach understand the situation.
However, Zach was even more shocked. He declared that he'd never met a ranch owner like Naoki, who could afford to keep rare Pokemon like Axew in such numbers.
Naoki could only roll his eyes at the statement.
In preparation for the upcoming fishing contest, Naoki had been diligently honing his fishing skills.
Every day, after finishing his chores, he would grab his fishing rod and bait and head to the water to practice.
With little else to do on the ranch besides watching TV, fishing had become a great way to pass the time, and he often found himself sitting by the water for hours on end.
And so, another day began.
Naoki set off with his fishing rod, intending to spend the day by the river.
Seeing the Axew and Haxorus eagerly trying to follow, Naoki's eyebrows twitched. He grit his teeth and said,
"No way! If any of you hang Magikarp, glass bottles, or old boots on my hook again today, I'll send you back to the island!"
Hearing this, the Axew and Haxorus finally backed down, abandoning their plan to secretly help with fishing.
Naoki pinched the Axew's chubby white nose and pointed at the pink Axew swimming leisurely in the lake. "Why can't you be more like her? Look how well-behaved and obedient she is!"
The Axew glanced at the shiny Axew, then at Naoki, and then stuck its tongue out.
"Garchomp, come here and watch your nieces and nephews!" Naoki called out.
Garchomp looked innocent, thinking that it couldn't be blamed for the mischief of these rascals, but still, it obediently shuffled over. "Gar!"
With Garchomp keeping an eye on the Axew and Haxorus, Naoki felt relieved as he headed to the lakeside with his fishing gear.
Golurk thoughtfully set up a small stool, while Clawitzer held a transparent bottle filled with a red liquid in its claw.
Naoki sat on the stool, took the bottle, and twisted the cap open. Instantly, a rich and aromatic tea fragrance wafted toward him.
Indeed, it was the specialty red tea from Beitou Town.
Naoki took a sip. He had been eating too many sunflower seeds lately, which caused some internal heat, but this red tea helped to quench his thirst and clear the heat, and it tasted delightful. So, he made it a habit to drink a few cups every day.
Naoki turned back and watched as Haxorus and the Axew, including the shiny one, started pestering Garchomp. He thought to himself that while they were mischievous, their arrival had brought a lively atmosphere to the ranch.
Moreover, these Haxorus and Axew seemed to have no intention of returning to their old home.
What was that about Dragonite Island now? They had probably forgotten all about it.
Naoki shook his head with a smile and then focused on fishing seriously.
Across the river, a group of Ducklett were hiding in the shade of a tree, looking absolutely adorable.
When they noticed the human looking their way, they suddenly became flustered.
Naoki was confused. Was he that scary?
Meanwhile, on the other side of the ranch, the Dragonite in charge of watching over the group of Axew and Haxorus heaved a sigh of relief.
Dragonite's gaze shifted to Naoki fishing by the riverbank.
To be honest, it had initially thought that the arrival of these Axew and Haxorus would lessen Naoki's affection for it and that he would recall it into its Poke Ball, train these new arrivals, and evolve them into Dragonite as well.
It wasn't very smart, and it didn't know how to act cute like these naughty little ones, so it had been extremely worried during this period, fearing that its position would be replaced.
Whenever it saw Naoki interacting with the Axew and Haxorus, Dragonite would imagine a group of newly evolved Dragonite surrounding Naoki while it was left alone, drawing circles in a corner.
It only saw the new Dragonite's smiles, not the old Dragonite's tears.
Fortunately, Naoki didn't do that. He still cared for every Pokemon on the ranch as he always had.
This made Dragonite feel both sweet and troubled.
It was sweet because its position in Naoki's heart was obviously much higher than that of these Axew and Dragonite.
But it was troubling because Naoki seemed to favor Golurk and Mudkip more, even sleeping with them every day.
Sigh...
Dragonite quietly sighed.
The weather today wasn't very good. It was overcast, and as Naoki looked up from his fishing, he thought that it would probably rain soon.
Sure enough, just as he caught his third fish, a sudden thunderstorm broke out, so fast that it caught almost everyone off guard.
It started to rain.
Naoki quickly picked up his bucket and ran back, taking shelter under the eaves with the others.
Pokemon of all sizes stood in a row under the eaves, making the space there quite cramped.
Looking at this scene, Naoki thought to himself, "It looks like expanding the house is necessary."
He gazed at the fields shrouded by the heavy rain.
Once this batch of crops was harvested, he would have enough funds to expand the house.
He decided to ask Kishu over to start work on the expansion right away. Coincidentally, the hops were also ready, so once the house was built, he could officially begin brewing beer.
However, there seemed to be one problem at the moment.
Based on Kishu, Craftsman, and Conkeldurr's work speed, constructing a fully functional two-story residence would likely take no less than a month.
Where would he live during that month? Staying at an inn in town didn't seem very realistic.
After much thought, Naoki decided to buy a large tent and set it up on the ranch. Besides using it for living, he could also take all the Pokemon to experience the feeling of camping under the stars.
Perfect!
