Chapter 1713: A War Without Victors (163)
Chapter 1713: A War Without Victors (163)
"Please sign here. What brings you to Britain, and how long do you plan to stay?"
The employee processing Louise's immigration paperwork struggled to keep his gaze from lingering on the beautiful girl in front of him, feeling his voice falter.
"All done, thank you."
Unaware of the young man's reaction, Louise, after completing the immigration process, walked alongside Janila into the Emerald Flame that had reappeared beside them, under the watchful eyes of the Ministry of Magic employees, and headed straight for the famous Diagon Alley in the heart of Britain.
"You're still as popular as ever."
Janila, unrecognized by anyone, felt a bit down as she realized she wasn't as well-received in Britain as she was in other European countries. The witches and wizards here seemed to favor an older woman named Setina Vorbek.
"How do you feel?"
Louise smiled at the young woman beside her.
"It's just okay," Janila replied, surveying the alley and pouting. "Old, dirty streets, and everywhere you look, there are sneaky, rude fellows."
Just then, Janila noticed several people glancing their way.
"That's normal; there are people like that everywhere," Louise assured her. Mewa's heritage not only gave her a beautiful face but also attracted trouble.
"Let's go; everyone is waiting for us."
"I'd like to look around here," Janila said.
Louise was confused by Janila's request but quickly understood.
"Are you nervous?"
Louise's expression confirmed her suspicion.
"No," Janila said, pointing to a nearby shop with a festive Christmas atmosphere. "I just want to pick up some Christmas gifts for everyone."
"We can come back another day. It's not exactly safe for us here right now."
Louise smiled and took Janila's hand, leading her away with a Disapparition.
"What were you feeling at the time?" Janila asked, steadying herself after the abrupt movement.
"What do you mean?" Louise thought for a moment before responding, "Well, I was... excited!"
"Excited?" Janila couldn't comprehend.
"Your situation is an exception. We, or should I say, Albert's lovers, have known him for a long time. When he married Isabella, we thought we'd missed our chance. Later, even though he wasn't our only lover, it was still a bit disappointing..."
Louise seemed to sense something and looked up, seeing a figure standing at the edge of the snowy wind, waiting for them.
"I thought they would all come out to greet us."
Louise quickened her pace and gave Albert a big hug, arms wide open.
"If you had come earlier, they would have been more than happy to greet you," Albert said, his tone changing as he turned his gaze to the anxious, beautiful woman behind Louise. He smiled and extended his hand, "Come with me."
Louise gave Janila an encouraging look, and with a trembling hand, Janila placed her hand in Albert's palm, allowing him to lead her forward.
After taking only a few steps, Janila was surprised to find that the snowy wind had vanished, replaced by a pale mist.
When she turned to look for Louise, she was gone, and Albert was the only one in sight, holding a lamp with a faint blue glow in one hand and leading her through the mist with the other.
Janila didn't know how long she had been walking, but when she came to her senses, she saw Louise looking at her with a smile that wasn't quite a smile.
"This is the defense mechanism here. The first time you need someone to guide you, otherwise you might get lost."
Albert released Janila's hand, explaining as he held a lantern and led the way for the two of them.
"Actually, you could just hold Albert's arm and not let go," Louise said, standing next to Janila and teasing her with a smile, "He won't mind."
If it were the old days when Janila was pursuing Albert, she would have likely done that. But now that her wish had come true, she suddenly became more reserved.
"If you two had come any later, we might have all gone hungry."
The estate's gate suddenly opened, and the girls welcomed Louise and Janila with smiles.
Isabella exuded the demeanor of a lady of the house, taking the initiative to give the two of them a hug and even personally leading Janila into the estate by the hand.
Not long after, a special candlelit dinner began. It would have been better if there were fewer girls attending.
However, the feast of international cuisines prepared by two house elves using all their skills undoubtedly satisfied everyone, including a small bowl of Spanish paella that even surprised Janila.
This was a unique gathering that Janila had never experienced before. After dinner, the girls gathered in the carefully decorated sunroom for some leisure time.
Albert was quickly occupied by Katherine, while Katrina was asking Valeria about the secrets to running a successful witch beauty shop.
Louise accompanied Janila as Isabella explained the things to pay attention to as Albert's lover and the upcoming solemn oath ceremony.
"I feel like..."
Janila, soaking in the bubble-filled bathtub, recalled Isabella's words from earlier, feeling that something was amiss.
"You feel like it's a trap?"
Katherine examined Janila's smooth and supple skin, feeling a hint of frustration and jealousy.
Among Albert's lovers, she was the oldest.
Janila looked up at Katherine in surprise, probably not expecting to hear such words.
"Your intuition is right," Katherine said, stroking Janila's smooth and beautiful face, "In fact, most of the girls realize this after the fact."
"But why..." Janila was very confused.
"Albert doesn't have much affection for us. He has too many lovers, and even if he had love to spare, it would be spread too thin."
"But we all willingly became his lovers," Janila was even more confused, "Right? No one was forced, it was all voluntary, and we're enjoying it."
"Because we all got what we wanted, whether it's love or something else," Katherine knew what the girl in front of her wanted to ask and reminded her with a smile that wasn't quite a smile, "Since we got something, isn't it normal to have to give something in return? Moreover, not every pretty girl is qualified to be Albert's lover."
Janila opened her mouth slightly but said nothing.
"Why do you want to be Albert's lover?" Katherine asked.
"Is Isabella pretending? After all, I think... no woman would want her man to have a bunch of beautiful lovers, right?" Janila stiffly changed the topic.
