Chapter 171: The Flaming Liquid, Returning to the Heart-Forging Chamber
"Landlord Lu, I've gathered all the materials you asked me to help with."
On the third day after the apprenticeship ceremony, Wei Xinghe arrived at Lu Qing's residence with a cheerful expression.
"You've finally gathered everything?" Lu Qing asked, equally delighted. "Where are the materials now?"
"I've asked someone to bring them over here," Wei Xinghe replied.
"There's no need to go to such trouble. I still need to prepare these materials, and I'd like to borrow the Wei family's alchemy lab if possible," Lu Qing said.
"Of course, we have one. Should I have the materials sent to the lab?" Wei Xinghe offered.
"That would be great. Thank you for your help," Lu Qing said gratefully.
After Wei Xinghe left, Old Doctor Chen asked, "A-Qing, what materials did you ask the Wei family to gather for you?"
"Some ingredients for a potion related to blacksmithing," Lu Qing replied.
Old Doctor Chen nodded but didn't inquire further. He was aware of Lu Qing's mysterious inheritance and had grown accustomed to his occasional odd requests.
"Master, after preparing the potion, I plan to visit the blacksmith's shop. I may be back a bit late," Lu Qing said.
"Be careful out there and stay safe," Old Doctor Chen instructed.
During their recent trip to gather herbs, Old Doctor Chen and Wei Shanhai had learned about the assassination attempt that had occurred at the mansion. Wei Shanhai had been furious and had almost gone to confront the Seven Killing Tower to demand an explanation.
Old Doctor Chen had also heard about the discussion regarding the young man in plain clothes and his words about the Seven Killing Order, and he couldn't help but worry about Lu Qing's situation. However, he knew that they couldn't let potential threats paralyze them.
They couldn't stay cooped up in the Wei mansion just because of possible assassination attempts.
Moreover, Old Doctor Chen understood Lu Qing's character well and knew that he was usually level-headed. If Lu Qing believed it was safe to go out, he must have a good grasp of ensuring his own safety.
"I understand, Master. Wait until I return, and I'll give you a pleasant surprise," Lu Qing said as he gathered his things and made his way to the Wei family's alchemy lab.
Upon arriving, he inspected the materials that Wei Xinghe had sent over and nodded in satisfaction. The materials were almost identical to what he needed, and any slight discrepancies wouldn't affect the potion-making process.
Of course, this was also because the list of materials Lu Qing had given Wei Xinghe included not only the names but also detailed descriptions of their characteristics. It wouldn't have been easy to gather everything based on names alone, especially since many of the names in Lu Qing's inherited knowledge dated back tens of thousands of years and might have changed over time.
However, while names could change, the inherent characteristics of the materials remained constant.
Thus, Lu Qing had successfully gathered everything he needed.
"Lord Wei, I'm about to prepare a unique potion with these materials. Please ensure that no one disturbs me during the process," Lu Qing requested.
"Please rest assured, Young Master Lu. I, Wei, will personally stand guard and make sure no one interrupts you," Wei Xinghe assured solemnly.
Ever since Lu Qing had saved Wei Zian's life again and after hearing the conversation between the young man in plain clothes and 'Heavenly Solitary,' Wei Xinghe's respect for Lu Qing had grown even stronger.
"Then I'll trouble you, Lord Wei," Lu Qing said as he entered the alchemy lab and closed the door behind him. He focused all his attention on preparing the potion.
Half an hour later, Lu Qing gazed at the fiery red liquid before him, a hint of satisfaction in his eyes. The liquid emitted a faint heat, and although he had mentally simulated the process of creating this "Flaming Liquid" multiple times using his supernatural abilities, this was his first attempt at actually doing it.
He was pleasantly surprised that he had succeeded on his first try. Initially, he had asked Wei Xinghe to prepare extra materials for practice, but now he decided to make use of the remaining ingredients rather than waste them.
Another half-hour passed, and Lu Qing opened the door of the alchemy lab, stepping out with a sense of accomplishment.
"Young Master Lu, is everything alright?" Wei Xinghe immediately went to greet him.
"I've successfully prepared the potion, Lord Wei. Next, I need to make a trip to the Casting Heart Forge, and I won't be back for lunch, so there's no need to prepare a meal for me."
"Is Young Master Lu going to the Casting Heart Forge to forge your own weapon?"
Wei Xinghe recalled the words of the chief steward and asked hesitantly.
"Indeed. I have an appointment with Master Lin, the old craftsman at the Casting Heart Forge. I'll be borrowing their forge once again in the next few days."
Wei Xinghe hesitated for a moment before asking, "Young Master Lu, may I accompany you and observe as well?"
"Of course. But, Lord Wei, are you also interested in the art of casting?" Lu Qing asked, a little surprised.
"To be honest, Young Master Lu, I heard from the chief steward that you possess extraordinary skills and have attained the level of a master in the art of casting. I've never had the fortune to witness the prowess of a casting master, and I am naturally curious to see it for myself," Wei Xinghe replied candidly.
"The chief steward exaggerates my abilities. I merely have some insights into the art of forging. I am far from deserving of the title of a casting master. However, if Lord Wei is interested, it would be my pleasure to share my humble skills," Lu Qing humbly responded.
Having received Lu Qing's permission, Wei Xinghe was filled with anticipation and immediately made the necessary arrangements.
Lu Qing, on the other hand, returned to the Bamboo Courtyard, entered his room, and retrieved a wooden box. He then took out the smallest piece of meteorite iron from his Qiankun Bag and placed it inside the box.
Carrying the wooden box on his back, Lu Qing left the courtyard with Wei Xinghe, and they set off together towards the Casting Heart Forge.
"Young Master Lu, you're here," they were greeted upon their arrival by Master Lin, the old craftsman, and his disciples, who were waiting respectfully.
Apparently, while Lu Qing was in his courtyard retrieving the wooden box, Wei Xinghe had already sent someone ahead to notify the Casting Heart Forge.
Master Lin was overjoyed to learn that Lu Qing was finally coming to forge his weapon.
He immediately closed the forge to the public and, along with his disciples, awaited Lu Qing's arrival with reverence.
"Master Lin, I'm afraid I have to trouble you once again to borrow your forge," Lu Qing said politely.
"Not at all, not at all!" Master Lin quickly assured him. "It is our honor at the Casting Heart Forge to be of service to Young Master Lu!"
Master Lin held Lu Qing in the highest regard.
A few days prior, when he was helping to polish the thousand-fold sword embryo that Lu Qing had forged, he was left astonished.
The sword embryo had been hammered and refined by Lu Qing to perfection, devoid of any impurities, and was truly flawless.
Master Lin was completely mesmerized by it.
As a result, he held immense reverence for Lu Qing, who had achieved such perfection in his forging skills.
Thus, even with Wei Xinghe, the head of the Wei family, accompanying Lu Qing, Master Lin was not surprised.
In his eyes, Lu Qing, a master in the art of casting, deserved such respect.
The group entered the Casting Heart Forge.
"Young Master Lu, will you be using Furnace Number One again?" Master Lin asked eagerly.
"Yes, I've used it once before, and I'm quite familiar with it now," Lu Qing nodded.
"Then I shall start the furnace for Young Master Lu."
Master Lin eagerly stepped forward to the bellows and began pumping vigorously. The flames rose, and a wave of heat filled the room.
"Young Master Lu, please."
Master Lin's respectful demeanor resembled that of an apprentice, and he bowed humbly.
"Thank you," Lu Qing said, not refusing.
He understood Master Lin's intention—to assist him closely and observe his forging techniques.
Lu Qing did not mind; if Master Lin could gain some insight from it, it would be a fortunate turn of events.
Setting down the wooden box he carried, Lu Qing opened it and took out the meteorite iron within.
As Master Lin caught sight of the meteorite iron, he paused for a moment, his eyes gradually widening in surprise.
