Chapter 171: Dragonite's Heaven and Earth Phenomenon
Chapter 171: Dragonite's Heaven and Earth Phenomenon
The family gathering came to a fulfilling end, and before returning to the ranch, Naoki had one more thing to do.
He wanted to test the upper limit of how big a Pokemon could get after eating the pumpkin pie and also observe if there were any changes in the moves of the enlarged Pokemon.
So he called out his Dragonite, once again feeding it a piece of the pie.
Dragonite understood Naoki's intention. After finishing the pie, it left the island and flew out over the ocean.
Naoki and Golurk stood on the cliff at the edge of Dragonite Island, watching Dragonite's movements from a distance.
They saw it fly out to a distance of over a hundred meters before stopping.
Then, Dragonite's body began to grow at a visible rate.
Three meters, five meters, seven meters... fifteen meters... twenty-five meters... thirty meters...
Finally, it transformed into a colossal Dragonite that rivaled a Gigantamax Dragonite in size! Its massive body, like a towering mountain range, plummeted into the sea with a thunderous splash, sending a towering wave crashing upwards as if a sea beast had emerged from the depths.
"It seems to be just a bit shorter than a Gigantamax Dragonite," Naoki murmured to himself as he witnessed this spectacle. "I guess this is the limit mentioned in the pie's description?"
After a moment of contemplation, he shouted, "Try out your moves now!"
Dragonite responded with a roar, focusing its energy. With a thunderous roar, thick clouds began to gather from all directions.
The clouds spread out, covering the sky and even engulfing the area above Dragonite Island below.
Immediately afterward, a deafening thunderclap rang out, and a torrential downpour began, enveloping the entire world in a curtain of rain.
The sudden rainstorm startled the Dragonite on the island, and they all took to the skies to investigate.
They immediately spotted the gigantic Dragonite in the sea and wore expressions of shock and confusion.
"Roaar?" They wondered how another Gigantamax Dragonite had appeared.
Dragonite itself was also astonished, but for a different reason than the others. It was amazed by the exaggerated power of this move! Looking up at the cloudy sky, Dragonite recalled Naoki's words from before—'cover the entire world with your rain'.
And now, it had achieved that feat!
Dragonite was thrilled, and Naoki felt a surge of excitement within him as well.
"It seems that the moves of an enlarged Pokemon are also strengthened," he thought aloud. "I wonder if there's a limit to how many times it can use these enhanced moves. I'll have Dragonite try again."
After a brief moment of thought, he rode Golurk over to Dragonite and asked it to stop for a moment so he could test some other moves.
Dragonite nodded and then let out a call to Golurk, signaling it to take Naoki farther away, as Dragonite could sense that the move it was about to use would be incredibly powerful.
Without another word, Golurk turned and flew away to a safer distance.
Once they were clear, Dragonite began to move.
Purple Dragon-type energy gathered around its body, and its massive form spun and twisted in the water, condensing a powerful storm that transformed into a gigantic tornado.
Seawater was pulled into the vortex, and the tornado became a watery column that reached from the cloudy skies to the depths of the ocean, as if it had the power to destroy the world.
"Roaar..." The young Mini Dragons on the island were terrified, their tiny bodies trembling as they watched the awe-inspiring display.
The other Dragonite also looked on with grave expressions.
Fortunately, Dragonite didn't maintain this Water Spout for long and soon dispersed it. Its eyes shone with excitement, and it followed up with a third move—Dragon Rage.
Purple Dragon-type energy erupted from Dragonite's mouth, transforming into a massive flame that surged forward.
With a deafening explosion, the sea, which had barely calmed down, was once again whipped into a frenzy of towering waves.
And just like that, after using these three moves, Dragonite's body suddenly returned to its original form with a 'pop', surrounded by a cloud of smoke.
Naoki was taken aback for a moment before musing, "It seems that an enlarged Pokemon can only use three enhanced moves before returning to its original form. This is similar to Gigantamax, in a way."
It could now be called a bootleg version of Gigantamax.
At that moment, Dragonite flew back, and Naoki asked, "Can you do it again?"
"Roaar!"
"Show me how small you can get."
Hearing this, Dragonite quickly shrank down, eventually becoming as small and adorable as a Pikachu.
Naoki looked the tiny Dragonite up and down before saying, "Now, show me your moves!"
Dragonite nodded and began to demonstrate.
Unlike the enlarged state, when it was small, the Pokemon's moves also became miniaturized, but correspondingly, the number of times it could use each move increased.
To test his hypothesis, Naoki had Dragonite use Thunder continuously. Only after the thirty-eighth consecutive use did Dragonite return to its normal form.
Naoki began to summarize his findings: "Enlarging a Pokemon enhances its moves, but there are only three opportunities to do so, and the Pokemon returns to its original form once those chances are used up."
"When shrunk down, it seems the Pokemon can conserve energy, resulting in an increased number of move usages, albeit with reduced power. If no moves are used, it seems the Pokemon will maintain its altered form indefinitely."
The gigantic Kairyu blinked.
"If possible, don't use your powers unless it's absolutely necessary. If you exhaust your three chances, you might not be able to transform into this form again," Naoki added.
After all, the pumpkin pie couldn't be preserved for long, and once consumed, it was gone. Plus, he couldn't guarantee that he'd be able to grow another Size-Altering Pumpkin.
"Raaawr," the gigantic Kairyu nodded, taking his words to heart.
"Alright, let's leave it at that. It's getting late, and we should head home," Naoki smiled, looking at the massive creature before him. Instinctively, he reached out to pat its head, just as he would with his other Pokemon.
Noticing his movement, the gigantic Kairyu's gaze immediately shifted to his restless hand.
Naoki halted his hand in mid-air, feeling a bit embarrassed, and withdrew it, cursing his habits in his mind.
Pretending that nothing had happened, he turned and bid farewell to the gigantic Kairyu, then went to find the group of Pokemon playing with the Mini Dragons and Hakuryuu.
"It's time to go home. Let's play again next time!"
The Motostoke, Budew, Frosmoth, and Glaceon reluctantly said goodbye to the Mini Dragons and Hakuryuu on the island, then turned and joined Naoki.
Naoki recalled each of them into their Poke Balls.
Soon, only Golurk and Kairyu were left outside.
Kairyu was being bombarded with questions from the other Kairyu on the island, basking in their awe-struck and admiring gazes, a proud expression on its face.
Naoki guessed they were probably talking about its transformation.
He smiled to himself, then turned and found his backpack on a patch of grass. Slipping it on, he mounted Golurk and called out to Kairyu, "Let's go, Kairyu! We're heading home!"
"Raaawr~"
Kairyu enthusiastically responded and ran over to give Naoki a hug in front of the other Kairyu. Then, it obediently followed behind Golurk, taking to the air.
"Bye, see you next time!"
Naoki waved goodbye to the group of wild Kairyu.
As he watched Kairyu Island disappear from view, Naoki wondered why he hadn't seen the Mini Dragons and Hakuryu that he was more familiar with come to see him off today.
He hadn't spotted them near the lake earlier, and he wondered if they had gone fruit-picking in the wilderness or taken a nap at the bottom of the lake.
The previous times, they had been reluctant to part with him, and he felt a little disappointed that they hadn't shown up this time.
However, he didn't dwell on it.
Golurk's speed was incredible, and they returned to the ranch in about an hour.
As they landed, Naoki scanned his surroundings and noticed that the herder goat was still lounging leisurely in the grass, so he figured nothing eventful had happened at the ranch in his absence.
Relieved, he released the group of Pokemon from their Poke Balls, letting them play as they pleased.
He tossed his backpack onto the bed and was about to get a bottle of water from the fridge when he suddenly heard Evan's voice.
Seeing this, Naoki grabbed a bottle of juice and went outside, drinking as he walked.
He didn't notice that his backpack, which he had left on the bed, shifted slightly.
The zipper was pulled open by a tail, and one by one, heads of various sizes poked out, their eyes taking in their new surroundings with innocent curiosity.
At the ranch, Evan delivered a letter to Naoki, looking excited.
"Hey, Naoki, have you heard? The Fishing Competition is about to start!"
Naoki raised an eyebrow. "Fishing competition?"
Evan nodded. "Yep! It's on the 20th of this month, at Twinheart Lake, just east of the town."
He nudged Naoki with his shoulder. "I heard from Zack that you're really good at fishing! He bought a lot of fish from you a few months ago, so who knows, maybe you'll get a good ranking this time!"
Naoki: "......" Should he tell them that those fish were actually caught by Golurk?
Evan continued enthusiastically, "I heard that the winner will receive a limited-edition fishing rod! Apparently, it's so amazing that you can even catch Pokemon like Gyrados with it!"
Naoki thought, 'What's the big deal? I've even seen a fishing rod that can catch Kyogre!'
"Is this letter about the fishing competition?" he asked.
Evan shook his head. "No, Mayor Thomas said he would notify you about that personally. This letter is about the Fireworks Festival."
Naoki was surprised. "Fireworks Festival? That's coming up soon!"
Evan: "Yep! It's on the 31st of this month, at the beach in Drench Town. I won't go into the details, but it's all written in the letter. It's a very lively festival with countless fireworks blooming in the night sky. It's a spectacular sight! Make sure to bring your Pokemon and enjoy it!"
I'm a bit busy today, so I'll make up for the remaining chapter tomorrow, along with the five chapters for tomorrow. Sorry about that!
