Chapter 171: A Letter from the Order of Merlin
Chapter 171: A Letter from the Order of Merlin
The next day, Ivan arrived early in the Great Hall to enjoy the first breakfast of the school year.
Harry and Ron looked somewhat distracted, as if they felt something bad was about to happen. They only responded when Neville greeted them.
Hermione, who was seated nearby, was visibly upset about their adventure the previous day, and her expression was not pleasant.
Before long, a rustling sound came from outside the hall. Ivan looked up to see a large number of owls flying in from outside the castle, heading towards their respective targets and delivering letters and items to the long tables of the four houses.
Nearly half of the owls flew towards Ivan, a few of them colliding mid-air due to the crowd. A large number of envelopes fell from the sky, scattering everywhere.
Ivan frowned and tapped his wand, causing the envelopes on the ground to fly over and stack in front of him, the pile so high it almost blocked his view.
This unusual phenomenon quickly caught the attention of the young wizards.
"Wow! So many letters? Who are they from?" Hermione asked curiously.
"Probably orders for the Wolfsbane Potion", Ivan said casually, then added, "Strange, I told them to send the orders to the shop."
Picking up one of the letters, Ivan hesitated for a moment. He noticed that this envelope was different from the others, with a white background and a golden border, and a strange circular pattern in the center.
The sender was Richard Goshawk, a name he had never heard before.
Ivan's interest piqued, and he opened the envelope to read the contents.
[Dear Mr. Hals:
Due to your invention of the Wolfsbane Potion, which has improved the living conditions of Werewolf Wizards and made a significant contribution to the wizarding world, we are pleased to inform you that you have been selected to join the Order of Merlin and will soon become the youngest recipient of the Second-Class Order of Merlin in a thousand years!
Based on the nomination by Mr. Albus Dumbledore, after a thorough investigation, we will send a representative to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry to present you with the Second-Class Order of Merlin!
Sincerely,
Richard Goshawk (Grandmaster of Merlin's Knights, Vice President of the International Confederation of Wizards, and recipient of the First-Class Order of Merlin)]
"It seems to be a letter from the Order of Merlin", Ivan said, shrugging and handing the envelope to Hermione, who was bursting with curiosity.
After reading the contents, Hermione said happily, "Congratulations, Ivan!"
Ivan nodded, but his mind was elsewhere.
He estimated that receiving the Order of Merlin would likely grant him legend points, as this achievement had a much greater impact than the minor incidents at school last year.
The only thing that puzzled him was why the medal presentation was delayed until around Halloween and was to take place at Hogwarts. He wondered what Dumbledore's intentions were.
However, Ivan thought the Order of Merlin was quite meticulous in their approach.
They planned to spend several months tracking the effectiveness of the Wolfsbane Potion and compile a report on the living conditions of Werewolf Wizards to assess his contribution to the wizarding world.
As for the other envelopes, they contained mostly ordinary content. Ivan casually flipped through them, most of which were letters from fans, primarily Werewolf Wizards.
A few of the remaining envelopes, Ivan suspected, were from wizards who disliked or opposed werewolves.
These letters were filled with threats and insults, stating that werewolves were inherently evil and that the only way to solve the problem was to eliminate all werewolves.
Ivan didn’t bother with these idiots, crumpling the two letters and preparing to throw them in the trash.
Harry and Ron approached at this moment, wanting to see the letter from the Grandmaster of the Order of Merlin.
But before Harry could even speak, he noticed that besides the pile of envelopes on the table, there was also a newspaper.
The front page featured a magical car flying through the city's sky, with two figures vaguely visible inside.
"God, Ron, we made the news!" Harry exclaimed.
Actually, there was no need for him to remind Ron, whose eyes were already fixed on the newspaper, fear evident in his gaze. He suddenly felt that the trouble might be even bigger than they had imagined.
Above them, a trembling owl flew over, carrying a red letter in its beak. It flapped its wings weakly, flying very slowly, making people worry that it might suddenly plummet.
Fortunately, the grayish-brown owl eventually completed its task, delivering the letter to Ron. Afterward, it crashed into Hermione's milk jug.
Ivan immediately pulled Hermione back a few meters and tightly covered his ears.
"What’s happening?" Hermione asked in confusion.
"That’s a Howler. I suggest you do the same!" Ivan glanced at her, warning her.
The young witch, though unsure of what was happening, followed Ivan’s example and covered her ears. The informed Gryffindors also quickly moved away.
Harry swallowed hard, looking at Ron with fear. He had witnessed the power of a Howler last semester, and the noise was loud enough to wake up everyone in the Gryffindor common room.
Ron’s expression was also grim, and he looked like he was about to cry. His fingers trembled as he slowly opened the envelope.
Ron had initially planned to destroy the Howler or simply throw it into the lake.
But Neville stopped him, as doing so would cause even more serious consequences!
No one asked how he knew.
As soon as Ron tore a small opening in the envelope, the letter began to move, folding into a large red mouth. A deafening voice immediately echoed through the Great Hall, nearly making the two closest people go deaf!
"Ron! How dare you hide this from us? How could you take the magical car to school without permission?!"
"If they expel you for this, I won’t be surprised at all. Just wait and see what I’ll do to you. You probably never thought about how your father and I felt when we found out the car was gone..."
Mrs. Weasley’s voice was already loud, and when amplified a hundred times by the Howler, the sound waves even made the cups on the table rattle.
Everyone in the Great Hall heard every word, eager to see who had received the Howler. Under the watchful eyes of the crowd, Harry and Ron felt utterly humiliated.
Being publicly shamed was no easy feat, especially when Arthur might be fired from the Ministry of Magic because of their actions!
The shouting lasted for more than ten minutes before finally stopping. The envelope then spontaneously combusted, turning to ashes on the ground.
