Chapter 1704: A War Without a Victor (Part 154)
Chapter 1704: A War Without a Victor (Part 154)
As night fell, the wind and snow outside intensified.
The light still shone in the Defense Against the Dark Arts office, where Seredik sat at his desk reviewing the day's homework assignments. His gaze often drifted to the wall clock, as if awaiting a visitor.
Just before the clock struck nine, a green magical fire suddenly erupted in the fireplace, and a figure emerged from the flames.
"Good evening."
The visitor was slightly startled to find someone in Seredik's office but quickly smiled and greeted him.
"That armchair of yours is a real pain in the rear, I bet you've barely sat on it a few times." Seredik put down his quill and grumbled in greeting.
"I had the armchair infested with bugs, and then it collapsed when I sat on it. So, I had a house-elf replace it with a new one." Albert ignored Seredik's stare and continued, "I haven't even sat on this new one yet."
"Then I suggest you get a new one or make yourself a cushion," Seredik complained. "This broken chair is terribly uncomfortable."
"I need to see Professor McGonagall first, we can talk about this later." Albert didn't respond to this, knowing why Seredik had come to his office so late. Albert had an appointment, and after checking the clock, he headed out.
As for the new armchair, he decided to get a cushion for it later. It wasn't used often anyway, so it just needed to be durable.
At nine o'clock sharp, Albert knocked on the door of the Hogwarts Headmaster's office.
"I thought you had given up."
Professor McGonagall was surprised to see Albert visiting her so late at night. Ever since Albert graduated from Hogwarts, the Wizard's Card Game club he founded had gradually declined.
The successors didn't invest as much energy into the card game as the original four did, even with the annual Galleon provided by the school for the tournament.
Of course, there was another reason.
Since Albert returned to Hogwarts, he hadn't kept up with the club either, not even attending this year's Wizard's Card Tournament, making it feel like the game might not continue.
"Not at all. We plan to hold a Wizard's Card Tournament across the UK in Hogsmeade every year, and we hope Hogwarts students can participate in this card game competition."
Albert handed Professor McGonagall a planning document, briefly explaining the plans and the "generous" prize money for the tournament.
After a quick review of the parchment, Professor McGonagall asked, "Has Hagrid agreed to this?"
"I've discussed it with Hagrid, and he's on board. Seredik will also be there, so I think there shouldn't be any safety concerns for the students." Albert knew Professor McGonagall would agree.
In fact, Professor McGonagall did give her approval.
This Wizard's Card Tournament was intended for Hogwarts students, which was why they chose Hogsmeade Village as the venue and scheduled it during the students' trip to Hogsmeade.
The next day, a related announcement was posted on the bulletin board in front of the Great Hall, causing a stir among the students of Hogwarts.
A prize of one hundred Galleons was at stake.
Even students from wealthy wizarding families wouldn't have that much money in their pockets.
All the students were discussing the tournament, and many decided to join the excitement.
As a result, Seredik received a large number of applications.
"You could have held it in Avalon."
Seredik couldn't quite understand why Albert, Fred, George, and Lee Jordan were willing to spend so many Galleons on a card game.
"Trust me, no one wants to make Avalon a smoggy mess, and the game's target audience is primarily students. It would be awkward if not many people participated." Albert seemed to read Seredik's mind and smiled, "Of course, you can also think of this as our legacy to the students of Hogwarts."
"Well, that's true."
Seredik flipped through the day's newspaper, saw the advertisement for the Wizard's Card Tournament, and didn't say anything more.
After all, he wasn't the one spending the Galleons, and an extra income of one hundred Galleons each year was quite good, without much effort required.
The issue with the Wizard's Card Game club was simply a lack of enthusiasm, so they needed a "mentor" to lead the way.
Once Luna graduated, Albert would officially pass the Book of Origin to Seredik.
Of course, he also briefly discussed some of the taboos in the Book of Origin with Seredik. Then, he invited Seredik to the site of the Wizard's Card Tournament, a sort of advance scouting trip.
"I thought it would be in Hogsmeade Village."
After walking for about fifteen minutes, the two arrived at the road to Hogsmeade and saw a wooden sign that read "First Wizard's Card Tournament."
However, to Seredik's dismay, there was nothing there but the sign, which seemed newly placed. Albert had probably walked there to familiarize himself with the route.
"The next Wizard's Card Tournament will be held in Hogsmeade Village." Albert surveyed the surroundings, and after confirming it was safe, he cast a spell on the sign to make the location appear on the map.
"I thought you were going to set it up at the Cauldron Pub?" Seredik looked at the snowy field before him and couldn't help but comment, "You're going to pitch tents here."
"Hogwarts students can't go to the Cauldron Pub, so we ultimately chose the Three Broomsticks Pub. But this first time, we'll have to hold it outdoors." Albert didn't see any issue with pitching tents.
In fact, they had already ordered a large tent capable of accommodating two hundred people.
"The Three Broomsticks Pub?" Seredik repeated, "You're not going to..."
"We've discussed this with Madam Rosmerta, and she's very willing to accept our offer." Albert downplayed the situation.
Currently, the reconstruction of Hogsmeade Village required personal funding, and the Ministry of Magic couldn't afford to cover the costs. They only provided very cheap construction fees, almost as if they were giving away houses for free.
Madam Rosmerta could afford the cost, but building a house wasn't cheap, and the most important question was how long she planned to keep the pub running? Now, with someone offering to pay for her to use it for free, she was naturally delighted. Moreover, the cooperation between the two parties had no downsides and would increase the reputation of the Three Broomsticks Pub.
