Chapter 170: Why Didn't We Think of Coming by Car?
Chapter 170: Why Didn't We Think of Coming by Car?
Ivan led Hermione running back to the castle. On the way, they met Professor Mcgonagall, who was welcoming the First-years. Hermione quickly stepped forward and reported the situation.
"What? You mean Potter and Mr. Weasley are coming to school in a Muggle car, and they're flying it?" Professor Mcgonagall was very surprised, almost thinking Hermione was joking.
As far as she knew, Muggle cars couldn't fly!
But noticing the worried look on Hermione's face, Professor Mcgonagall immediately realized the seriousness of the situation.
"I think Harry and Ron might have run into some trouble, which is why they missed the train and decided to come by Muggle car", Ivan added.
"That's no excuse! If they missed the train, they should have sent a letter so we could arrange for someone to pick them up. How could they do something so dangerous?" Professor Mcgonagall scolded, her lips trembling.
What if Harry and Ron's Muggle car malfunctioned or crashed along the way?
Thinking of this, Professor Mcgonagall spoke urgently.
"I'll go find Headmaster Albus and see if he has any ideas."
"As for you two, go to the Great Hall immediately and don't wander around!" Professor Mcgonagall warned before hurrying off.
Hermione vaguely wanted to follow, but Ivan stopped her. They couldn't help in the situation.
Entering the Great Hall, Ivan led Hermione to a seat. He looked toward the teacher's table, where Snape and Professor Mcgonagall's seats were empty. The seat that had previously belonged to Quirrell was now occupied by Lockhart.
Dumbledore was also nowhere to be seen.
As the time approached, the Sorting Hat was nagging about when the ceremony would start. It couldn't wait to sing its new lyrics.
The First-years were growing increasingly anxious, their faces tense.
The professors at the teacher's table discussed who would preside over the Sorting of the First-years.
"Listen to me, no one in the entire magical world understands Sorting better than I do!" Lockhart stood up without hesitation, speaking confidently.
Amid the professors' confused expressions, Lockhart enthusiastically promoted himself, eager to get the opportunity to Sort the First-years. He emphasized that he had often presided over similar Sorting ceremonies in Muggle schools.
Even the two major European magical schools, Beauxbatons and Durmstrang, had invited him to their opening ceremonies.
Unfortunately, the other professors clearly didn't trust him. In the end, the most respected Professor Flitwick hopped off his chair, left his position, and walked to the stage.
The Sorting Hat finally got to sing, and although its voice wasn't the most pleasant, it sounded surprisingly good with the rhythm.
The First-years then took turns walking to the front, sitting on the small stool for the Sorting.
Professor Flitwick quickly realized he wasn't suited for the job. As a Goblin, he couldn't reach the students' heads even when standing on tiptoe with the Sorting Hat.
Just as Flitwick was about to use a spell to lower the stool, the clever Lockhart brought over a chair and encouraged Flitwick not to feel inferior because of his small stature. He said standing on the chair would make him just as tall!
This made Professor Flitwick extremely embarrassed, but Lockhart, oblivious, patted Flitwick's shoulder and told him not to thank him.
Professor Flitwick strongly suspected this guy was doing it on purpose but couldn't find any evidence.
Ivan watched the small drama on stage with interest. Suddenly, he felt someone tugging at his clothes. Turning around, he saw it was Hermione.
"It's Harry!" The young witch exclaimed, looking towards the entrance of the Great Hall.
Ivan followed her gaze and indeed saw a disheveled Harry and Ron trying to sneak in through the door.
The two troublemakers might have thought no one would notice them during the Sorting, but they forgot to check their backs. Snape had been waiting for them for a long time.
"Will Harry and Ron get expelled for this?" Hermione asked, worried, as she watched them being led away by Snape.
"Don't worry, they won't!" Ivan reassured her.
Dumbledore wouldn't expel Harry for anything, not even for arriving at school in a flying car and crashing into the Whomping Willow.
Time slowly passed, and Dumbledore arrived just as the Sorting Ceremony was about to end. His expression was calm, as if nothing had happened.
He gave a brief speech, used his wand to conjure the dinner, and then left again.
Ivan guessed that Dumbledore might have gone to clean up after Harry and Ron. After all, they had flown a car to school, and who knows how many Muggles had seen it.
The Ministry of Magic would likely have to send a large number of people to erase the memories of those Muggles.
If not for Dumbledore, the Ministry would have definitely given them a hard time for causing such a big fuss.
But this had nothing to do with Ivan. He enjoyed his rich dinner while thinking about what he needed to do this semester.
First, he needed to find the missing pages of Bloodline Origins and discover how to merge multiple bloodlines.
Second, he couldn't neglect his daily studies. Accumulating House Points and improving his skill levels were the foundation of becoming powerful.
Third, he needed to practice becoming an Animagus. Ivan hadn't forgotten his promise to Professor Mcgonagall at the end of last semester.
What Ivan found a bit more challenging was how to obtain the remaining legend points. He needed five points to make them effective, and he currently had only three. Even if he completed the Bloodline Mystery task, he would still only have four.
After dinner, Ivan followed the other Gryffindor students back to the common room.
On the way to the dormitory, Ivan overheard many young wizards discussing the missing Harry and Ron. Clearly, more than just he and Hermione had seen the Muggle car on the train.
George turned to Fred after chatting with an older Gryffindor and said, "That's just so cool! Why didn't we think of driving the car to school?"
Fred nodded, equally amazed. Neither he nor George had the guts to do something like that, knowing their mother would kill them if she found out.
They never expected their younger brother Ron to have such courage.
It seemed they had underestimated Ron all along.
Ivan listened to their conversation, finding their logic quite amusing.
But George wasn't the only one who thought so. Many young Gryffindor wizards found the idea of traveling this way exciting.
Because of this, when the anxious Harry and Ron returned to the dormitory, they were greeted with enthusiastic applause. Many young wizards surrounded them, asking about their car ride to school.
For a moment, the two of them were treated like heroes, as if they had accomplished something incredible.
Harry and Ron were initially embarrassed, but they soon forgot their near-death experience and began recounting their thrilling adventure to Neville and the others in the dormitory.
Ivan yawned and went to bed, sincerely hoping they would still be smiling tomorrow.
