Chapter 170: Marine Headquarters Major Klah
Chapter 170: Marine Headquarters Major Klah
"Report! Sengoku!"
Just as Sengoku finished speaking, a Navy officer rushed up and shouted to the figure above him, "The Gate of Justice has opened without any orders issued, and the Power Room is unreachable!"
"Nani?!" Sengoku exclaimed. "How could it have opened?!"
But now was not the time for astonishment. All Navy personnel turned their gazes toward the sea horizon.
Through the misty waves, countless ships emerged.
The Whitebeard Pirates, accompanied by 43 affiliated pirate crews, had arrived in full force!
Yet strangely, the Whitebeard Pirates' main fleet was nowhere to be seen.
Suddenly, bubbles surged across the crescent-shaped harbor's surface. From the depths, a colossus' shadow began rising.
Hwah!
A whale-like Coated Ship surfaced from the seabed, followed by another and another, their colored membranes shimmering as they appeared at the harbor entrance.
"They entered through the membrane?!"
Sengoku's expression darkened. "So that's why there were no traces."
Four ships now hovered at the harbor. The largest vessel faced Sengoku directly, its deck bearing a towering figure.
The moment this presence appeared, overwhelming pressure filled the air.
Whitebeard!
"Gurarararararara! Sengoku, we haven't seen each other in decades!"
Whitebeard stood gripping his blade, laughing heartily at Sengoku.
"Whitebeard..." Sengoku's expression turned grave.
"Dad!" Ace strained against the guards' bayonets as Whitebeard appeared.
"Ace, my son, endure a little longer."
Whitebeard glanced at Ace, then slammed his dual nitoryu blades into the ship's deck. With fists crossed before his abdomen, he declared,
"Here we go!"
Kuro narrowed his eyes, warning Lida and Klah, "You two must be extra careful. Absolutely don't draw this man's attention!"
The very air seemed to tremble.
Bang!
As Whitebeard's fists swung wide, the atmosphere cracked at the point of impact. Tremendous shockwaves rippled across Marineford.
"What is this?!"
A Navy officer stared in horror, voice shaking.
Gigantic tidal waves surged from both sides of Marineford, their heights threatening to engulf the entire battlefield!
"Is this really Whitebeard's strength?!" Klah sweated profusely.
He'd witnessed legendary pirates before—pirates like Shanks. Yet even he felt his knees wobble.
These tsunamis alone could flatten entire battalions!
The Navy personnel stared at the approaching devastation like doomsday incarnate. Few could maintain composure.
"Ara ara, coming in this strong immediately? Aren't you being a bit much?"
Below the execution platform, Kuzan—one of the Three Admirals—lifted his gaze. In a flash, his body vanished.
He reappeared at the tsunami's epicenter, extending his palms. Ice spears erupted from his palms, embedding themselves into the twin waves.
"Ice Age!"
The seawater froze instantly along the spear points, forming two colossal ice sculptures from the crashing tsunamis.
"Gurararararara! Kuzan, you brat!" Whitebeard laughed skyward.
"Two Spine Lances!"
After freezing the tsunamis, Kuzan conjured several ice spears that shot toward Whitebeard.
Bang!
Whitebeard punched skyward, shattering the ice spears along with Kuzan's body in one blow.
"Tch."
Kuro winced involuntarily. The shockwaves from that punch had already left him with internal injuries earlier.
Kuzan's shattered body transformed into ice shards, scattering across the Grand Line. His frozen remains floated on the water's surface, spreading frost that rapidly froze the entire bay into an icy expanse.
The seawater had frozen solid!
"Open fire! Destroy those frozen ships!"
The Vice Admirals barked orders.
"Hey! Perfect! Now we've got solid ground to work with! Let's go!" Pirate captains leapt from their ships, leading crews ashore.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Simultaneously, Whitebeard's subordinate crews opened cannon fire on Marineford. As cannonballs neared the harbor, shadowy figures flashed mid-air. With blinding blade flashes, the cannonballs exploded mid-flight.
Several figures landed at the harbor's edge.
Marine Headquarters Vice Admirals—elite commanders had arrived.
"He Popo, step back. This isn't safe. Leave it to us", said Borsalino, the blade-wielding Rear Admiral.
"Cut the crap, kids. I'm a Marine Admiral too!"
Crane glanced at the pirates standing on the ice, calmly stating, "Besides, even retreating to the end of the Grand Line offers no safety."
"All Navy personnel above Commander rank—form up at the central area! The rest, engage Edge Saber tactics!"
"Charge!!!"
With a thunderous roar, Navy forces leapt from the harbor, charging into the pirate ranks.
Kuro sighed, stretching his limbs. "Stay at the edges—understood?"
With that, he joined the Navy charge, stepping onto the ice.
Lida swallowed a Devil Fruit whole, transforming into a lithe young woman as she followed Kuro.
Klah opened his briefcase, strapping on Cat's Claw. His glasses glinted coldly.
So Kuro's plan was keeping them from engaging captains directly?
After all, those captains were clustered in the central area. Meanwhile, subordinate pirate crews' captains were approaching from the edges.
Their true objective—target those captains?
"I'll handle it, Kuro-san!"
Klah adjusted his glasses. His claws dragged downward, activating propulsion as he rocketed forward.
Suddenly, Kuro sensed danger behind him. Twisting around, he saw Hawk-Eye drawing his Black Blade.
"Fufufufu, you're joining the fight?" Donquixote Doflamingo chuckled.
"Just testing something", Hawk-Eye replied, gripping his sword Yoru. "Measuring that man's distance from us."
He swung.
A colossal slash wound through the ice, racing toward Whitebeard.
Bang!!!
At that moment, a massive figure intercepted the slash, dispersing its force.
"Diamond" Jozu!
Jozu glared at Hawk-Eye, his expression openly defiant.
A golden glow flickered in the sky.
"Yata Mirror Beads."
Lucius Kro appeared mid-air, crossing his arms toward Whitebeard before unleashing a barrage of yellow lasers.
Suddenly, a bird wreathed in blue flames soared upward, intercepting the laser storm.
"It's Marco! 'Phoenix' Marco!" Navy personnel screamed.
"Oh~ Phoenix? How scary", Lucius Kro feigned surprise.
Phoenix dove low, transforming mid-air to human form. He delivered a spinning kick toward Lucius Kro, who blocked with one hand.
"Ugh! That hurts!" Lucius Kro exclaimed.
"Don't play me for a fool!" Marco growled.
Bang!
The kick sent Lucius Kro crashing downward, slamming into the icy ground.
"Hey Kuro! Lucius Kro Admiral just got kicked down!"
Lida glanced back while charging with Kuro.
"Stop worrying about that old sea dog. He'll survive even if every Navy man dies."
Kuro blended seamlessly with the Navy ranks, engaging pirates at the battlefield's midsection near the edges.
His positioning was deliberate—mid-formation but edging toward the perimeter.
Though technically in the central area, the chaos of battle rendered such distinctions meaningless.
Kuro danced along the boundary between Elite Marines and Edge Saber units, sometimes crossing into the latter.
"Ahhh!!!"
The moment Navy and pirates first clashed, the battlefield descended into utter pandemonium.
Kuro performed acrobatic maneuvers between edge and center—dodging, weaving, and evading.
"Die!"
A pirate slashed downward at Kuro, who sidestepped narrowly, carrying the strike far into Edge Saber territory.
Another pirate charged, blade raised. Kuro raised his arm toward the incoming weapon.
As his hand neared the blade, it vanished in a blur. The next instant, his palm smashed the pirate's face into the ice.
Crack!
Ice shards scattered.
Kuro stretched his fingers, not sparing a glance at the writhing pirate. He bit his cigar, blowing a smoke ring as he surveyed his surroundings.
His fellow Navy personnel had completely surrounded him. Not one suspected his true identity.
Perfect.
Better than perfect!
Hiss!
Pirates flew across the battlefield, their bodies marked with fresh gashes.
Klah propelled forward, Cat's Claw aimed at two identical figures landing ashore.
"Dierkaban Brothers! You're first!"
Klah crossed his arms, targeting them. His body accelerated.
"God-Speed Shave!"
His high-speed movement carved furrows across the ice. In an instant, he stood before the Dierkaban Brothers, ten claws slashing downward.
Clang!
A knightly figure blocked the attack—Lumba, one of Whitebeard's subordinate pirate captains. His blade clashed with Klah's Cat's Claw.
"Hey you two! Don't take this lightly! This Navy isn't ordinary!" Lumba warned.
The Dierkaban Brothers instinctively split, rushing Klah from either side.
Whoosh!
Cold gleams slashed through the air—but found nothing.
Klah's form retreated to the ice's edge, smirking at the pair. "Cat's Claw? Now that you mention it, I used to have twin brothers under my command too."
"Who the hell are you?"
"Who are you, anyway?"
The Dierkaban Brothers fired questions in perfect unison.
"Klah."
Klah straightened, adjusting his glasses. His hooded cloak billowed dramatically as he declared, "Marine Headquarters Major Klah!"
"Klah?"
The brothers stared, shocked.
"That Klah who dared fight Dad and our captains? The Klah who stole Wano Country's National Treasure?" Lumba asked incredulously.
"???"
Klah had intended to showcase his reputation through battle. While fighting three captains simultaneously would be difficult, he had confidence in his abilities.
But now? Confusion clouded his mind.
"Dad" referred to Whitebeard, obviously. But when had he ever fought Whitebeard and their captains? And stealing Wano Country's National Treasure?
Wait—Wano's National Treasure?!
Klah instinctively turned toward the distant Navy ranks, where Kuro was slowly edging backward.
The older man avoided eye contact completely.
"Hey! Klah's been spotted!" Lumba roared toward the rear lines.
A dark line formed on Klah's forehead.
Kuro-san! What kind of trouble have you gotten me into this time? And why'd you have to mention my name?!
Is this what you meant by "don't draw attention"?
