Chapter 17: Li Kai's Summoning Beast Curio Shop
Chapter 17: Li Kai's Summoning Beast Curio Shop
At first, Li Chun didn’t tell Lu Wuzai what kind of shop it was, only giving him an address and a phone number.
So when Lu Wuzai arrived at the destination, he found it hard to believe.
Because the address Li Chun gave him wasn’t a regular shop; it was a store called "Li Kai's Summoning Beast Curio Shop" that specialized in summoning beast items.
In this era, opening a shop related to summoning beasts was extremely difficult, something most people couldn’t even dream of.
This made Lu Wuzai suspect for a moment that he had come to the wrong place. He had to call his yet-to-meet boss to confirm that this was indeed where he was supposed to work before he stepped inside.
As soon as he entered the curio shop, Lu Wuzai felt as if he had been transported to a game world.
Upon entering, there was a counter on the right side of the door, and a large summoning beast holding area on the left.
Further in, four two-meter by two-meter shelves stood in the center, displaying a variety of peculiar items.
There were crystals, bones, herbs, fruits, and even skull heads.
Along the edges of the shop, four display cabinets were set up, showcasing a range of equipment and weapons for humanoid summoning beasts.
The entire shop exuded a magical atmosphere.
While Lu Wuzai was surveying the shop, a middle-aged man, with a dirty shirt, disheveled hair, and panda-like dark circles, emerged from a door at the back of the shop.
Lu Wuzai then noticed that there was indeed another door at the back of the shop.
The middle-aged man sized up Lu Wuzai and then the mini skeleton by his side before asking, "Are you the one Li Chun recommended?"
"Yes, I’m the one Li Chun recommended. My name is Lu Wuzai. Please take care of me!"
"My name is Li Kai. I’m the owner of this shop and your boss for the summer.
Come with me, and I’ll explain your job."
Li Kai got straight to the point, leading Lu Wuzai on a tour of the small curio shop.
"Your job is very simple. You’ll be cleaning and managing the shop.
However, many of the items in this shop can’t be handled carelessly, and there are specific ways to clean them. I’ll go over the important points with you.
Make sure you remember them and keep the shop clean and organized every day.
Also, take this!"
With that, Li Kai handed Lu Wuzai a notebook, which turned out to be an inventory list.
"Almost all the information about the items in the shop is in here, including their uses and prices. Try to memorize this. If a customer comes to buy something ordinary, you can help them. If you can’t handle it, just call me. I’ll usually be in the back."
...
It took Li Kai about half an hour to go over everything Lu Wuzai needed to know for his job.
"Everything important has been covered. Have you remembered it all?"
Lu Wuzai nodded, "I’ve remembered it all!"
Li Kai raised an eyebrow, highly skeptical of Lu Wuzai’s claim.
He had just spent half an hour explaining over twenty different points, and even he might not be able to recount everything accurately. How could Lu Wuzai remember it all?
But he didn’t say anything more.
There wasn’t much to say. Young people were often nervous on their first day and might not remember everything clearly. It was normal for them to need a bit of time to get used to it.
He decided to let Lu Wuzai start working and correct any mistakes as they came up.
However, when Lu Wuzai actually started working, Li Kai was genuinely surprised.
He realized that Lu Wuzai hadn’t been lying; he really had remembered everything.
Lu Wu meticulously attended to over twenty tasks, ensuring everything was in order. Despite his clumsiness due to limited experience in household chores, he made almost no mistakes.
This was a favorable situation for Li Kai, allowing him to save a lot of trouble. After confirming Lu Wu's proficiency, Li Kai entrusted the shop to him and retreated to the backroom for some much-needed rest.
He was exhausted! The previous night, he had stayed up experimenting with a new idea. Now, with someone to mind the shop, he could finally get some proper sleep.
As Li Kai left, Lu Wu was alone in the entire shop. It was then that he allowed his inner joy to show.
In this shop, he had discovered two things, one of which was an additional function of the Golden Finger.
The Golden Finger's secondary function allowed him to see the attributes of items related to Summon Beasts that he touched.
Lu Wu, while cleaning the shop, touched the merchandise and realized the Golden Finger's ability to display these attributes.
However, this ability seemed incomplete.
When Lu Wu tested it, he found that while he could see the attributes of the items in the shop, they were all incomplete, with many details hidden behind question marks.
Take, for instance, the skull in the shop.
Item: Mini Skeleton's Skull
Value: 500 yuan
Description: No special effects, purely decorative. May have some medicinal value, please research on your own.
The System's attribute display was vague.
Other item attributes were similarly unclear, with the most common phrase being 'research on your own'.
Lu Wu quickly realized that the attributes he saw through the Golden Finger were only those he already knew.
He knew the prices, so the attributes showed prices, and the functions written on the shelves were reflected in the attribute panel.
In essence, the attributes displayed were only those he was already aware of. If he didn't know something, it wasn't shown.
In this aspect, item attributes were more comprehensive than Summon Beast attributes.
This realization made Lu Wu feel frustrated with his Golden Finger. Why did he need it if he had to know the attributes himself? Why bother looking at item attributes at all?
But Lu Wu quickly adjusted his mindset. On one hand, he was used to the System's tendency to be a let-down, and on the other, he saw the option for item function verification on the attribute panel.
Lu Wu tried it and found that this function could help confirm his guesses about item functions.
This meant that while the Golden Finger couldn't reveal all item attributes at once, it could assist him in discovering and understanding them.
In other words, if Lu Wu could deduce the attributes, he could truly comprehend and master these items.
With this realization, Lu Wu's perspective on the shop's merchandise changed. He no longer saw them as mere items but as puzzles to solve, like exam questions.
"Since I don't have any books to binge-read right now, I'll binge on you guys instead!"
