Chapter 169: Old Bridge Town Triad (Third Update)
Chapter 169: Old Bridge Town Triad (Third Update)
An hour later, Old Bridge Town.
Shield's motorcade stopped in front of a house with the number 1001.
"Miss Wizard, stay in the car for a bit. We have some business to take care of, and it won't take long!"
Coulson called out to Jerry.
Jerry, engrossed in a Magic book that detailed the Traceless Extension Charm, waved his hand to indicate that he didn't need to be bothered.
The main purpose of their visit to Old Bridge Town was to investigate through the local police system if anything unusual had happened recently or if any suspicious individuals had appeared.
Secondly, they needed to retrieve all atmospheric data records from before and after Mjolnir's appearance from a Meteorology Professor's home, hoping to find some relevant clues.
Jerry's role was to provide some magical assistance if they found any suspicious individuals.
Jerry had no objections to this. He came to New Mexico to see if any events would occur after Mjolnir's appearance, which could earn him some Little Red Stars.
As part of the exchange, Shield would help him repair and reassemble his robot soldiers.
So, when there was nothing to do, he continued his Magic research.
"Hey, you can't do this! You're violating my rights, and I'll sue you!"
Not long after Coulson got out of the car, an angry shouting voice came from outside. Jerry, curious, rolled down his window to look.
There, Coulson was directing Shield agents to move various pieces of equipment and records into a large van. Beside him, an old man and two young women in their twenties looked furious.
It turned out that Shield's retrieval of the professor's equipment and records was not pre-negotiated but was being done forcibly.
"Indeed, rules are often made by the powerful to constrain the weak!"
Jerry's face twisted into a cold smile.
The country's declaration of "private property being inviolable" was, in the face of true power and capital, nothing more than an empty slogan.
Today, they could seize your experimental equipment and research notes in the name of national security, and tomorrow, they could lock you up in prison for the same reason. This was why Jerry never trusted Shield.
While from a national security perspective, Shield's actions might seem justified, from the perspective of the three victims, their hard-earned research was being forcibly taken away, and they had no recourse for justice.
If Shield dared to demand all his Magic-related items in the name of national security, would he comply?
Of course not. He would send them all to hell with Avada Kedavra!
Well, Avada Kedavra was no longer a good choice as it was mentally draining. He would use Sectumsempra and Particle Cannon instead; the effect would be the same.
"Miss Jane Foster, and Professor Erik Selvig, I am truly sorry, but we are the good guys. Please accept this as an apology!"
Coulson, looking apologetic, handed over a credit card that could buy all their equipment.
"Fuck!"
Enraged, Jane slapped the card away and lunged at Coulson, but she was pulled back by Professor Erik Selvig and Daisy.
"Calm down, Jane, we can't afford to provoke them!"
Professor Selvig, who had some understanding of Shield, knew the best course of action was to swallow their pride and prioritize their safety.
And just then, a voice tinged with dissatisfaction suddenly came from ahead:
"Mr. Coulson, is this what you call 'taking'? Is this really how Shield conducts itself?"
Everyone turned to look, and a little girl wearing a wizard robe stepped out of a black car.
It was Jerry, who had used a Disguise Charm to transform into Hermione.
Jerry usually wouldn't get involved in such trivial matters. After all, this was how Shield and other government departments in the country typically operated.
As long as it didn't affect his own interests, Jerry had no time to meddle in others' affairs, especially when there were no Little Red Stars to be earned.
However, when he heard the names Jane Foster and Erik Selvig, he suddenly recalled that in Avengers: Age of Ultron, Thor's girlfriend was named Jane Foster.
And Professor Erik Selvig was the one who helped Shield study the Space Stone at the beginning of Avengers: Age of Ultron. He was later controlled by Loki with the Mind Staff and opened a wormhole on the roof of Stark Tower, allowing the Chitauri Army to invade.
That's why he closed his Magic book and got out of the car.
"Miss Wizard, their meteorological data might have recorded Mjolnir's appearance, which would be very helpful for the researchers at the base!"
Coulson explained helplessly.
He didn't want to act like a bandit, but special times called for special measures.
"Do you see? This is exactly why I declined Director Fury's invitation to join. You always think what you're doing is right, but no one is always right!"
Jerry walked up to Coulson, his tone tinged with sarcasm.
Coulson ran his hand through his hair, looking somewhat troubled. Director Fury had instructed him to try to win the wizards' trust through this collaboration.
But now, if they continued, it would only worsen the wizards' impression of them.
Seeing Coulson hesitate, Jerry didn't push too hard but instead suggested:
"Actually, since these three are experts in meteorology, why not abandon this brutal approach and invite them to help in a friendly and peaceful manner? I believe they would be willing to offer some assistance, and it would be more efficient!"
"What do you think?"
Jerry then winked at Jane and the others.
Jane and her colleagues immediately caught on and quickly spoke up:
"Of course, as long as you return our equipment and research notes, we are willing to provide some technical assistance!"
"You see, don't be so dictatorial. Cooperation is the key to success!"
Jerry turned back to Coulson and murmured softly:
"Hey, that handsome head of yours might just wake up one day completely bald!"
"Alright, but you must keep this research confidential. Otherwise, I might have to invite you to Shield for a coffee!"
Coulson finally agreed to Jerry's suggestion, then ran his hand through his neatly parted hair:
"I don't want to end up like Director Fury with a 'Bald Head' nickname. After this is over, I still have a cello performance to attend!"
"Great!"
Upon hearing Coulson's agreement to return their equipment and notes, Jane and her colleagues' expressions brightened immediately.
