Chapter 169: Island Vacation
Chapter 169: Island Vacation
At 2 p.m., on the way to the Dragonite Island.
Naoki rode on his Dragonite, turning his head to look at the Golurk perched on his shoulder, at a loss for words.
The sea breeze brushed past their faces.
Then, a bunch of tiny heads poked out from the bag Naoki carried on his chest, squeezing together to gaze at the scenery ahead.
"Are you guys really not planning to turn back to your normal forms?" Naoki looked down at the group of Pokemon—a Glaceon, an Eievui, a Motostoke, and a Budew—in front of him and asked.
Around noon, after witnessing Golurk's actions, these Pokemon had all transformed into their smaller forms and climbed onto Naoki, refusing to leave.
Especially after hearing that he was going to Dragonite Island, they had looked at him with such yearning.
Naoki had no choice but to ask Shepherd to watch over the ranch while he brought them along.
The Pokemon gazed emotionally at the boundless azure sea below, their eyes sparkling with excitement.
This was their first time seeing the ocean, despite being at the ranch for so long.
Budew murmured softly, "So beautiful..."
The rippling sea reflected in Eievui's eyes; it had never imagined that the world was so vast, and beyond the icy lands, there existed such a spectacular sight.
Motostoke, who had lived in the small town since it was a few months old and then moved to the ranch, felt the same.
So beautiful! Even more beautiful than the moon Dragonite had shown them! Motostoke thought.
"Mama..." Glaceon's eyes shimmered with crystal tears, and it suddenly felt incredibly happy.
Naoki had been about to say something, but before he could open his mouth, the Pokemon in front of him had already reacted like this.
Forget it; he wouldn't say anything. Today, he would just let them have fun!
Dragonite flew swiftly, and soon they arrived at the familiar Dragonite Island.
It landed in the center of the island, and a few Hakuryu playing in the lake quickly noticed their arrival.
Their eyes lit up, and they flew out of the water to greet them.
Dragonite had thought that this group of Hakuryu had come to welcome it, after all, during its time living on the island, it had helped take care of them and often brought them fruit to eat.
Seeing their reaction now, Dragonite felt a sense of warmth.
It opened its arms, intending to give this group of Hakuryu and Mini Dragon a big hug.
However, the next second, they dodged around Dragonite and ran to Naoki instead.
Dragonite's eyes widened, and it roared in anger, pointing at them and shouting, "Roar!" (So rude!)
Then, it huffed and puffed its way over, hugging Naoki tightly in front of Hakuryu and Mini Dragon, declaring that this was its special partner and an excellent trainer.
Hakuryu and Mini Dragon blinked, looking at the childish Dragonite, one of them even stuck its tongue out at it.
Dragonite: !!!
Naoki: "..."
He patted Dragonite's claw helplessly: "Alright, that's enough, remember we came here today to take care of business."
Only then did Dragonite remember that matter, and it obediently let go of Naoki.
Naoki opened his bag and let Glaceon, Budew, Eievui, and Motostoke out, letting them go and play with the Hakuryu and Mini Dragons on the island.
As for himself, he went with Dragonite and Golurk to the edge of the cliff.
Looking at the waves crashing against the cliffs below, Naoki turned and asked, "Can you dive?"
"I know," Naoki said with a smile. "In that case, why don't you wait for us here? We'll be back soon."
Gurdur didn't put on a cute act and insist on going into the water with Naoki. Instead, it nodded and jumped down from Naoki's shoulder, reverting to its normal size as it stood on the cliff, waiting obediently.
After bidding Gurdur farewell, Naoki took a pre-purchased diving suit out of his dimensional backpack, put it on, and then, with the help of his Dragonite, dove into the deep blue sea.
Led by Dragonite, they swiftly swam towards the massive figure sleeping beneath the island.
Soon, they reached the gigantic Dragonite, which was as large as the island itself. Naoki gently patted Dragonite's back.
Understanding his intention, Dragonite brought Naoki right in front of the colossal Dragonite and let out a melodious cry, calling out to its giant counterpart.
Once... Twice... Thrice...
Just as Naoki was starting to think that the giant Dragonite might be in an impossibly deep slumber, the massive creature suddenly opened its eyes, revealing a pair of ancient golden dragon eyes. An awe-inspiring aura immediately radiated from the depths of the sea.
Both Naoki and Dragonite were startled by this sudden display of power.
However, the giant Dragonite quickly retracted its aura and, with a confused look in its not-fully-awake eyes, stared at the human and Dragonite before it.
"Hrooaarr?" it rumbled inquisitively.
As speaking underwater was impossible, Naoki conveyed his message through Dragonite.
After hearing the translation, the giant Dragonite immediately looked up.
Naoki pointed upwards, indicating that they should go to the surface to talk.
The giant Dragonite understood.
It stood up, its massive body displacing a tremendous amount of water as it swam towards the surface.
The sudden movement startled Naoki and Dragonite, and they were almost swept away by the hidden underwater currents. Suddenly, a pair of dragon claws grabbed them and lifted them out of the sea, setting them down safely on the surface.
Naoki removed his oxygen mask. Gurdur, who had been waiting above, flew over, clutching the backpack.
Without further ado, Naoki took out a piece of pumpkin pie from the bag and said to the giant Dragonite, "Open your mouth, please?"
The giant Dragonite immediately obliged, opening its mouth wide.
Looking at the abyss-like maw, Naoki quietly swallowed his saliva and then threw the pie into the giant Dragonite's mouth.
He wondered if the pie was too small for the giant Dragonite to even notice, and if this attempt would have any effect at all.
"Now, try to think about shrinking yourself," Naoki suggested tentatively.
The giant Dragonite closed its mouth and began to concentrate.
Then, a miraculous scene unfolded.
Its mountainous body began to shrink at a visible rate, eventually transforming into a Dragonite of about three meters in size.
Fortunately, Naoki had anticipated this, and the moment the giant Dragonite started changing, he had jumped onto its back, preventing himself from falling.
With a look of astonishment, he gazed at the Dragonite before him and asked, "How do you feel now?"
"Hrooaarr!" the once-giant Dragonite exclaimed, its face reflecting its own surprise at its new form.
It looked down at its body, then turned its head to survey the now-familiar yet strange surroundings.
The Dragonites on the island, witnessing this astonishing transformation, rushed over in amazement, forming a curious circle around the newly-shrunk Dragonite.
