Chapter 167: The Fourth Disciple, A New System Function
Chapter 167: The Fourth Disciple, A New System Function
"Currently, I mainly specialize in those two." Kakashi nodded in agreement.
At the moment, Kakashi relied mostly on his swordsmanship and Lightning Release in battles, while his Earth Release abilities played a supporting role.
"I'm not very proficient with short blades, but I can start by teaching you Lightning Release." Mu Yue thought for a moment before replying.
"Follow me, and you can choose which jutsu you want to learn."
Mu Yue led Kakashi deep into the forest of the training grounds.
"Lightning Release: False Darkness!" Mu Yue quickly formed the necessary hand seals and then spat out a massive lightning spear, instantly piercing and felling the trees within a 20-meter radius. The broken trunks bore charred marks.
"What a powerful Lightning Release jutsu!" Kakashi exclaimed, impressed by the toppled trees. His evaluation of Mu Yue's abilities rose even higher.
Based on Kakashi's observation, Mu Yue was undoubtedly an elite among jonin. Her taijutsu and ninjutsu skills were exceptional.
"Lightning Release: Chidori!" Without resting, Mu Yue swiftly lifted her hand and performed another jutsu.
Zzzzz!
An ear-piercing sound of electricity filled the air as high-intensity currents gathered and morphed in Mu Yue's hand.
Boom!
Mu Yue held the Chidori and swiftly moved toward a large boulder in the distance, creating a massive hole in it.
"Such incredible speed and penetration power!" Kakashi thought, witnessing Mu Yue's display.
In terms of expressiveness, False Darkness was far superior, boasting a wide range and destructive force that could clear out a large area. However, it was clear that False Darkness and Chidori were not the same type of jutsu, and comparing their attack ranges would be unfair to Chidori, which had faster speed.
Kakashi believed that both False Darkness and Chidori had their unique strengths and were powerful Lightning Release jutsus in their own right. False Darkness was ideal for mid to long-range attacks and clearing out a wide area, while Chidori excelled in rapid assaults and charges.
Given his current combat style, Kakashi felt that Chidori suited him better. Moreover, Chidori aligned perfectly with a Lightning Release jutsu he had been envisioning.
"Which of these two Lightning Release jutsus do you want to learn?" Mu Yue asked.
"The first one," Kakashi replied without hesitation.
Although Chidori matched his combat style, he already possessed the formidable Hatake Clan's White Lightning Battle Law. What he lacked was a long-range, high-powered jutsu.
"But before we begin, I want to ask you a question." Mu Yue said with a mischievous smile.
"You're teaching me jutsu, so what am I to you?"
"My instructor," Kakashi answered.
"Then what should you call me?"
Kakashi understood Mu Yue's implication—she wanted him to address her as "sensei," just as Might Guy and Obito did.
"What a peculiar ninja," Kakashi thought to himself. He found Mu Yue rather odd, almost unlike a typical ninja, or more accurately, unlike the modern-day ninjas.
However, since Mu Yue was willing to teach him advanced Lightning Release jutsu, Kakashi saw no issue with addressing her as "sensei." After all, being taught something was different from merely being led on a mission.
"Sensei Mu Yue," Kakashi acknowledged calmly.
[Do you wish to establish a master-disciple relationship with Hatake Kakashi?]
The system prompt immediately appeared, and Mu Yue wasted no time in selecting 'Yes.' Naturally, she would accept an S-potential disciple who had practically volunteered.
[Relationship established successfully. Current trust level—one. Disciple Kakashi unlocks 'Tutor Reflection' and 'Teaching Rewards.']
Seeing the trust level of one, Mu Yue thought, "Kakashi is quite hard to persuade. Despite being a fan of Byakuya, he's not willing to give a little extra trust."
Mu Yue wasn't too surprised, though. After all, she and Kakashi had only met yesterday, and given Kakashi's current personality, it would be challenging for him to develop trust in a short period.
Mu Yue used her Appraisal ability to take a quick look at Kakashi's latest panel.
[Name: Hatake Kakashi]
[Skills: Hatake Clan Swordplay (Proficient), Lightning Release Chakra Nature Transformation (Proficient)…]
Kakashi's chakra growth wasn't ideal. After nearly eight months, it had only increased by about eight hundred points.
It was important to note that Kakashi was an S-rank potential without any bloodline boosts, making him a rare find.
As for his skills, it was challenging to determine his progress in ninjutsu since his skills hadn't been upgraded when Mu Yue appraised him previously.
However, Mu Yue felt that Kakashi's current skill values were mediocre. While he had some proficient skills, such as the Hatake Clan Swordplay and the Earth Style Wall, they were only barely at the proficient level, indicating low proficiency.
Mu Yue suspected that Kakashi was still struggling to emerge from the shadow of the Byakuya suicide incident and that his current mental state was affecting his data.
It was a bit of a pity for Kakashi, but it worked out well for Mu Yue, as all of Kakashi's untapped potential would translate into rewards for her as his mentor.
[Detected four disciples with S-rank potential or above. Unlocking System Mall and Rewards: Skill Teaching Reinforcement Scroll]
[System Mall: Selling a portion of the obtained physical rewards]
Mu Yue first opened the System Mall to take a look.
There were only three items for sale: shuriken, kunai, and Training Secret Pills.
What pleased him was that the System Mall didn't require a special system currency; the currency of the Fire Country was acceptable. However, aside from the Training Secret Pills, Mu Yue didn't plan to buy the kunai and shuriken since the prices in the system were the same as those outside.
On the other hand, the Training Secret Pills weren't overly expensive, priced at 10,000 ryo each. Mu Yue felt that this price was quite reasonable compared to the pill's effects. If sold, they would undoubtedly be a hit.
After all, these pills could eliminate fatigue and internal injuries, and Mu Yue could personally vouch for their potent effects.
The opening of the System Mall solved Mu Yue's urgent problem. Previously, Might Guy's training mission had yielded twenty pills, and after such a long time, most of them had been consumed, leaving only a few for research purposes.
Next, Mu Yue used the Skill Reinforcement Scroll. He was curious to see what new effects would emerge after reinforcing his teaching skill.
[Teaching: The knowledge you impart is easily comprehended and remembered. Dedicated disciples will mentally reenact and internalize the teachings.]
Mu Yue pondered the skill's new description, finding it a bit abstract. However, based on his experience with the Appraisal skill's enhancement, he expected the effect to be more potent.
"False Darkness's lightning spear possesses tremendous power and speed, but it's important to note its chakra consumption. This ninjutsu requires a significant amount of chakra," Mu Yue began his lesson.
He suspected that Kakuzu also had high chakra levels, given the chakra demands of his ninjutsu, including False Darkness, Headache, and Pressure Damage.
Upon further consideration, given Earth Grudge Fear's characteristics, Kakuzu's chakra might not be that of a single person but the combined chakra of all five members.
[You have taught your disciple Lightning Release: False Darkness and gained the ninjutsu Lightning Release: Purple Lightning.]
Perhaps due to Kakashi's personality and the level of trust between them, there was no critical hit bonus despite this being the first time Mu Yue taught him ninjutsu.
Organizing the new memories of Lightning Release in his mind, Mu Yue felt that the reward was decent.
Purple Lightning could be considered an upgraded version of Chidori, as it required no hand seals to perform, and its power was immense.
Mu Yue intended to teach Purple Lightning to Kakashi after he mastered False Darkness. While teaching Purple Lightning to Kakashi wouldn't trigger the teaching feedback effect, it would significantly boost Kakashi's strength and shorten the time needed to earn the next reward.
