Chapter 167: I Will Descend the Mountain
Chapter 167: I Will Descend the Mountain
Chapter 167: I Will Descend the Mountain
Heavenly Gate Pass, Cangya City.
The array on the city walls had been constructed, and squads of the Blood Fiend Army, along with martial artists who had volunteered to stay, patrolled the various sections of the wall, keeping an eye on any demon activity.
Li Hongzhuang, clad in a bright red battle armor, ascended the city wall. She gazed out at the horizon beyond the pass, her brows furrowed in worry.
"It's been two days, why hasn't that child returned yet..."
Her heart was heavy with concern. Though the three Demon Kings wanted by the Demon Suppression Bureau had likely fled their lair, there was no guarantee they hadn't hidden nearby and encountered Li Hao.
They had a blood feud, and beyond the pass was the demons' territory, making it extremely dangerous.
"Li Ye."
After much deliberation, Li Hongzhuang suddenly called out to her deputy.
She planned to send a detachment of elite troops to investigate the situation at the three Demon Kings' lair.
A middle-aged deputy heard her and approached, but suddenly, a series of alarmed cries echoed from a distance.
Both the deputy and Li Hongzhuang tensed reflexively, turning their gazes toward the source of the cries. Following the soldiers' gazes, they looked to the eastern side beyond the pass.
In the clear blue sky, a black dot appeared, gradually growing larger, resembling a floating hill approaching them.
"Demons attacking?"
Li Hongzhuang's expression changed, and she took a few steps forward, pressing her palm against the city wall and squinting to see more clearly.
As her vision focused and she identified the shape of the black silhouette, her serious expression turned to one of surprise.
"Hao, Li Hao?"
Whoosh!
Li Hao sped toward the pass, trailing numerous demon corpses bound by fishing lines, which dangled like kites behind him, pulling the lines taut.
Seeing the city walls, Li Hao felt a sense of long-awaited relief and accelerated his approach.
As Li Hao entered the pass, the soldiers on the city walls saw the shocking sight and burst into cries of alarm and amazement.
"It's General Haotian!"
"These, these are all the demons the young general has slain?"
"Heavens, these demons are all at the Three Immortalities Realm, and there are so many!"
The soldiers of the Blood Fiend Army maintained some composure, but the martial artists who had come to reinforce them were in a state of constant amazement.
Three Immortalities Realm demons were rare sights, powerful beings who could rule over hundreds or even thousands of miles of territory.
Now, they hung in the air like a net full of fish, all slain by Li Hao.
With Li Hao's return, news spread throughout the city. Upon hearing that Li Hao had slain a multitude of powerful demons, the people rushed over, excitement in their hearts.
Li Hao returned to the city and placed the demon corpses on the ground where the Black Bird Demon King had previously been stored. When he saw Li Hongzhuang approaching at full speed, he smiled and said to her:
"Help me look after these for a bit. When I have some free time, I'll treat everyone to a feast."
"..."
Li Hongzhuang was momentarily stunned, then asked in disbelief, "You hunted all these? How far did you go?"
"Not far, just a casual stroll."
Li Hao said nonchalantly.
Li Hongzhuang looked at him skeptically. How could he encounter so many powerful demons on a casual stroll?
She suspected that Li Hao had not only gone to the lair of the three Demon Kings, which was a thousand miles away, but had ventured even further.
"Did you go to the lair of those three Demon Kings? Is it empty now?" she asked.
Li Hao nodded. "They're all gone."
Li Hongzhuang breathed a sigh of relief. "It's for the best that they're gone. You're safe, and that's what matters. With your talent, there's no need to take such risks now. If you train hard for ten years, you'll likely reach the Fourth Establishment Realm. Then you can venture out again."
She had full confidence in Li Hao.
If he reached the Fourth Establishment Realm at 24, he would still be far ahead, breaking records.
After all, most people would be overjoyed to reach the Three Immortalities Realm by 24, considered a top genius.
She had recently learned that Li Hao's father, her seventh brother, had also been extremely talented, reaching the Three Immortalities Realm at 23. This made it clear that reaching the Fourth Establishment Realm at 24 would be an incredible achievement.
Li Hao couldn't help but give her a strange look.
Is this aunt cursing me?
Reaching the Fourth Establishment Realm in ten years, what a vicious curse...
"I'm a bit tired, I'll go rest."
Li Hao said.
Li Hongzhuang noticed his tattered clothes and her expression changed. "Are you badly injured?"
"A bit."
Li Hao replied, "I need a good two days of sleep."
"..."
After bidding farewell to Li Hongzhuang, Li Hao returned to the Wattle Yard. As he saw Ren Qianqian approaching, he immediately sensed a change in her aura, a subtle glow emanating from within her.
"Reached the Divine Wanderer Realm already?"
Li Hao smiled.
Ren Qianqian was a year younger than him, only thirteen now, and she had already reached the Divine Wanderer Realm. Her cultivation progress was quite impressive.
The vast majority of Ninth-Rank War Body Talent Monsters, when they joined major factions, would only reach the Divine Roaming stage at fourteen and the Fifteen Li stage at sixteen.
After that, it all came down to talent. Those with high comprehension might step into the Tianren Realm by eighteen or nineteen, maintaining a rapid and unstoppable pace of breakthroughs, earning the title of prodigy.
Those with lower comprehension might not reach it until their twenties or thirties, and the worst might not achieve it until their forties or fifties.
"Young Master, are you hurt?"
Ren Qianqian whispered in alarm, looking at Li Hao’s tattered clothes, her eyes filled with concern and anxiety.
Li Hao smiled and handed her the sword in his hand. "Just a minor injury; it’s already healed. Just get me a new set of clothes."
Ren Qianqian took the Dragon Dawn Sword, then, hearing Li Hao’s words, she glanced at his exposed skin, seeing no wounds, and finally felt a bit relieved. "I’ll go get you some new clothes right away."
She then ran back to the room in the courtyard with the sword.
Li Hao went to the tea room in the courtyard, picked up the teapot, and shook it to check for water. Finding it, he drank directly from the spout.
Two days of intense battles had left him quite thirsty.
Before long, Ren Qianqian returned with new clothes. Li Hao took them and headed to the bathing room.
After a thorough wash, he cleaned the bloodstains from his hair, changed into the new clothes, and walked out, feeling fresh and clean.
Little White Fox was waiting by the door. Li Hao bent down, picked her up, and rubbed her fluffy head. He then went to the tea room, brewed a fresh pot of hot tea, and said with a smile, "Old Feng, would you like some?"
"I’ll pass; there are too many people around the city right now."
Old Feng’s voice drifted into his ears.
Li Hao’s smile faded slightly, but after a brief moment of silence, he picked up the teapot and tea table, telling Ren Qianqian and Little White Fox to do their own things in the courtyard. He then flew out of the city to a nearby mountain.
"It’s clear now."
Li Hao set up the tea table, personally brewed the tea, and gestured for Old Feng to join.
"You rascal."
Feng Boping’s figure materialized, drifting over like a gentle breeze and landing opposite the tea table.
"I don’t need your tea, but I’ll have a cup anyway." Feng Boping said, still picking up the teacup and drinking it in one go, a smile and a look of satisfaction on his face.
"But I do."
Li Hao said.
He then poured himself a full cup, sat on the mountain top, and as the cold wind blew, his Supreme Body automatically shielded him from it, while his True Energy kept the tea warm.
"Spring is almost here."
Feng Boping gazed at the horizon, let out a light sigh, and the steam from the tea rose in the air.
Li Hao nodded.
The battle was over, and both of them were enjoying a rare moment of relaxation, sipping tea and feeling a sense of peace.
When the teapot was empty, Li Hao stood up, bid farewell to Old Feng, and returned to the Wattle Yard.
Ren Qianqian had been practicing her sword techniques. Seeing Li Hao return, she quickly ran over and asked, "Young Master, did you go very far these past two days?"
"Not that far, just a few thousand miles", Li Hao smiled, holding Little White Fox, who had jumped into his arms. He noticed the dark red in her eyes was gradually fading, and her spirits seemed a bit better.
Ren Qianqian was slightly taken aback and then said with a hint of frustration, "Young Master, you’ve already reached the peak. When will I be able to catch up to you?"
Her cultivation speed, though fast, was still far behind Li Hao’s. She worried that she would have fewer and fewer opportunities to participate in his actions, and the gap between them would only grow wider.
"You don’t need to catch up."
Li Hao smiled. "I’ll come down the mountain to see you."
Ren Qianqian was taken aback and looked at Li Hao, her eyes shining with light.
Not long after Li Hao returned, a large group of martial artists arrived at the Wattle Yard, their voices loud and chaotic. Li Hao learned that they wanted to serve and join the army.
However, they didn’t want to join Li Hongzhuang’s Blood Fiend Army; they wanted to join Li Hao’s command.
Li Hao had no objections. The emperor had granted him the rank of general, and he had the right to recruit an army, albeit with a limited size.
But accommodating these reinforcements was more than enough.
After all, the number of martial artists willing to stay was only about one or two thousand, and only seven or eight hundred were willing to join the service.
Li Hao immediately pulled up a stool in the Wattle Yard, had Ren Qianqian handle the registration, and had the martial artists come forward one by one to display their skills. He assigned them different roles based on their cultivation realms and other talents.
Some were suited for reconnaissance, some for frontline charges, and some for the kitchen, to assist him.
Days passed in this leisurely and joyful atmosphere.
