Chapter 1664: A War with No Victors (Part CXI)
Chapter 1664: A War with No Victors (Part CXI)
Harry's words caused everyone to furrow their brows as they recalled the events of the last full moon.
"Do you really think there will be a large group of werewolves?" someone suddenly asked, raising their hand.
All eyes turned to the person, but no one voiced an answer to their question.
In truth, they, too, wanted to know.
"Probably..." Harry provided the answer that was on everyone's mind.
They all knew that Albert wouldn't joke about something like this.
Moreover, all signs indicated that ignoring Albert's warnings could be extremely dangerous.
The last group who had chosen to disregard his advice now permanently resided in the public graveyard of Azkaban.
"Albert performed a divination for Kingsley about this, and he suspects that it's the work of the wizarding families who once supported Voldemort, secretly creating werewolves," Lee Jordan suddenly shared some insider information with the group. "But Kingsley hasn't taken any action against the suspects."
"We haven't found any clues," Harry sighed, explaining to everyone, "and currently, there are no signs pointing to those wizarding families mass-producing werewolves."
Without evidence, there was little they could do.
Even if Kingsley was the Minister of Magic, he had to abide by the laws of the Ministry, or so Harry believed.
"That's not surprising. They're just employees, and it's unrealistic to expect them to sacrifice everything for the peace of the wizarding world."
Kenneth pushed aside the door curtain and walked in, a large barrel of butterbeer floating beside him. Truman followed close behind, with a cooler box floating behind him, filled with ice to help everyone cool off.
"And, Potter, when it comes to the upper echelons, they don't need evidence. Mere suspicion is enough for them to take action."
"Then what do you think Kingsley is up to with the Aurors?"
Truman felt a bit of sympathy for Harry and asked on his behalf.
Everyone in the room could smell the conspiracy, and even Harry's expression became a little unnatural.
He hadn't thought about it before because he had been too busy, but now that it had been pointed out, he couldn't help but overthink it.
Was it really out of their control, or was it intentional?
Harry thought about the Ministry's trial of Umbridge.
Perhaps it was a bit of both.
"What's he up to? He's putting on a show, of course!" Kenneth said matter-of-factly, "The Ministry needs to show their efforts and dedication, and at the same time, raise everyone's alertness."
"If something bad happens next, it's not the Ministry's fault. It's because people didn't listen to the Ministry's advice."
Everyone exchanged glances, feeling that this reasoning made sense.
They were all too aware of how dangerous werewolves were during the full moon. While Death Eaters might not be able to control the werewolves after they transformed, they could use the Killing Curse to control them before their transformation or use them as bombs during the full moon.
The attack on Kingsley was a perfect example, and if the Death Eaters wanted to cause chaos in this way, it would be nearly impossible to guard against.
Fortunately, it wasn't their problem to worry about; it was a headache for the Ministry, and many of them couldn't help but feel a sense of schadenfreude about it.
Ever since the Umbridge incident, the group had lost most of their favorable view of the Ministry.
After all, it was Kingsley's mistake not to come up with a way to quickly get rid of someone as despicable as Umbridge. The public didn't care about the Minister's difficulties; they only saw the ugliest side of the Ministry, and they felt even more sympathetic towards Nelson Tobin and his group.
As for Harry and those who had joined the Ministry as Aurors, the group could only feel sympathy for them.
At least they could all enjoy the show without worrying about the consequences.
As for providing help to the Ministry?
Well, that was out of the question.
If Albert couldn't solve the problem, what could they possibly do?
Moreover, instead of offering limited help to the Ministry, they much preferred to guard Avalon, which was their home and their future.
Especially after the Weasley family's home was burned to the ground by Voldemort's remnants, Avalon had been guarded nightly. They would not allow the village they had built with their own hands to be maliciously destroyed.
...
After the rare "weekend vacation," the Aurors were once again busy.
But thanks to their efforts, the search for Inferi by the Ministry was almost over, and most of the Inferi hidden by the Death Eaters had been found and eliminated.
Of course, there might be a few exceptions.
For example, the Inferius that Albert had shrunk and put into a bottle, which he brought to the Dark Magic Defense class to show his students.
"Although I don't mind releasing the Inferius from the bottle for you all to experience firsthand, Professor McGonagall thinks it's inappropriate, so I'll just explain it briefly here."
Albert enlarged the bottle, allowing the students to observe the snarling Inferius up close and teaching them how to identify these terrifying dark creatures.
Every Dark Magic Defense class brought surprises, even for those students who had participated in the Battle of Hogwarts. Observing an Inferius up close like this was a first for everyone, and it left a profound impact on the students.
"Never underestimate these dark creatures, especially when you don't fully understand them. It's easy to get into trouble and even lose your life. For example, if you encounter these monsters and try to use stunning spells or impediment curses, you'll quickly find that they're ineffective. Remember, ordinary spells rarely work on them. You need to exploit their weaknesses, such as their aversion to light and fire, to repel and destroy them."
The two-hour lesson was packed with valuable information, covering how to protect oneself, restrain, repel, and even kill Inferi. Albert also taught them two extremely practical self-defense spells.
"Are the two spells you taught in the Dark Magic Defense class your own inventions?"
"It's more accurate to say that I improved upon existing spells to exploit the Inferi's weaknesses and ensure one's safety."
"Well, I imagine the folks at the Ministry would love to curse you for that," Cedric said with a bitter laugh. He had also heard that the Aurors had recently cleaned up most of the Inferi in Britain.
"They're not students here, so they don't need to resort to such petty means of self-defense. Besides, those two spells can't kill Inferi anyway."
At that moment, in the Dark Magic Defense office, Cedric and Albert were enjoying their afternoon tea while chatting about life and casually reviewing the latest edition of the "Dark Magic Defense Guide," completely ignoring the sullen-faced Hermione behind them. The capable Gryffindor girl was helping Albert with the tedious task of checking for errors and omissions.
