Chapter 166: Shopping and Returning
Chapter 166: Shopping and Returning (Five Updates)
After waving goodbye, Jerry was just about to head to the subway entrance when he ran into Daphne and her father, the head of the Ministry of Magic's Portkey Office. He had to stop and politely greet them.
He had just parted ways with Daphne and her father, and now he encountered the Malfoy father and son.
At this moment, Jerry could only sigh that sometimes being too famous wasn't such a good thing. People would see him and initiate conversations, and he couldn't just ignore them. This made even leaving the station a time-consuming affair.
In the end, he quickened his pace, choosing less crowded areas, and dashed into the subway entrance to avoid running into more acquaintances.
During the summer, he definitely wouldn't be going to the orphanage. Just like at Christmas, he planned to rent a room at the Leaky Cauldron for two and a half months.
With a salary, he didn't mind spending a bit more money.
This was when having a regular salary really came in handy.
If he were using money earned from hunting Acromantulas or other activities that couldn't be openly disclosed, he wouldn't be able to rent a room at the Leaky Cauldron so openly.
The school definitely knew that he didn't return to the orphanage during the summer. Snape had asked him why he didn't go back to the orphanage or stay at the school during Christmas, and instead chose to spend the holiday alone at the Leaky Cauldron.
This indicated that the school was aware that he didn't return to the orphanage and stayed at the Leaky Cauldron.
Jerry's response was that returning to the orphanage didn't bring him joy, and he chose to stay at the Leaky Cauldron to earn some tuition by brewing low-level potions, to pay back the school's financial aid.
Jerry didn't know that his answer made Snape see him as a determined and extremely proud child, leading him to abandon the idea of sponsoring him.
Just a few days before the holiday, Snape had specifically sought out Jerry to ask if he would be willing to spend the summer at Spinner's End.
Jerry had almost agreed.
Because it would mean he would have plenty of time to learn magic from Snape. Although Snape often gave him extra lessons, they were usually short due to his heavy teaching schedule.
Spending two months with Snape would definitely elevate their relationship to a new level.
However, after some consideration, he decided against it. For now, spending two and a half months in the world of The Sorcerer's Apprentice seemed more beneficial.
After all, once he learned Sealing Magic, Voldemort would no longer be a threat.
There was also the Dragon Taming Magic, or the ability to control Fantastic Beasts, which would be incredibly useful in the future!
As for spending a pleasant summer with Snape, there would be other opportunities in the future.
Diagon Alley, Leaky Cauldron.
Jerry placed a bag of Galleons on the desk in front of the owner, Tom:
"Room for one and a half months!"
"Of course, Mr. Carmen, I'll prepare the best room for you!"
Tom, seeing the full bag of Galleons, rubbed his hands together, his face breaking into a wide smile.
No innkeeper would turn down a guest who treated the inn like home.
After securing the room, Jerry placed his empty suitcase inside and headed back to Diagon Alley.
He had just received two months' salary, plus the prize money from the previous competition. Before returning, he needed to stock up on supplies.
First, he needed to buy potions. He wanted to purchase various potions available on the market that might be useful in the future.
Next, he planned to buy a few owls to keep in his Box Space.
Owls have the magical ability to find anyone by name, no matter where they are, unless the person uses magic to block owl tracking.
Jerry didn't need an owl to deliver messages, as a phone call was far more convenient. However, he needed the owl's ability to find people.
For instance, if Tony Stark had been kidnapped earlier and Jerry had an owl, he could have written a letter to Tony Stark and followed the owl to find Tony's location.
Lastly, he needed to buy some high-end alchemy-made magical items, such as the Two-way Mirror, which cost a staggering three hundred Galleons.
In simple terms, the Two-way Mirror can be thought of as a video call device similar to a smartphone.
By holding one mirror and calling out to the other, the other mirror would respond, allowing two wizards separated by vast distances to communicate via video call.
If the magic of Apparition was used skillfully enough, one could even use the mirror's magical connection to instantly teleport to the location of the other mirror.
While the Two-way Mirror's video call function wasn't as convenient as a smartphone, it was a magical product and couldn't be tracked by ordinary technological means.
This was the aspect Jerry valued the most.
After purchasing all the necessary items, Jerry returned to his room. Before entering, he specifically informed the bar owner, Tom, about his plans.
He explained that he had booked the room for a month and a half but wouldn't necessarily stay there every day. He might be traveling and staying in a muggle hotel or visiting a friend's house.
So if Tom found the room empty during cleaning, he shouldn't be concerned.
Tom had no issues with this arrangement, as long as the payment was in order, he didn't care how many days his guests stayed.
Moreover, the Leaky Cauldron had seen its fair share of peculiar wizards, so this wasn't a big deal.
Having resolved any potential issues and ensuring he hadn't left anything behind, especially not Crookshanks, Jerry returned to his room and began his transition back to the Main World.
With a blink of his eyes, the surroundings changed from the wooden room at the Leaky Cauldron in London to the modern room in New York.
It was Tuesday, 2:00 AM in New York.
After returning, Jerry didn't linger in the room but immediately jumped into the Box Space.
Through his continuous efforts, the space within the Box had expanded to three times its original size.
Inside, a prominent villa stood alongside a Fire Dragon the size of a small elephant, the two-month-old Norwegian Ridgeback, Norbert.
Crookshanks was currently sprawled on Norbert's back, both the dragon and the cat in a deep sleep.
Not far from them, a skeletal black Thestral with bat-like wings was leisurely eating a piece of raw, bloody meat fed to it by Sun Long.
This Thestral was the one Jerry had brought from the Forbidden Forest, the one with the closest bond to him.
In the distance, a wall created using Mimicry Magic enclosed an area where many ordinary animals from the Forbidden Forest lived, providing Norbert with endless entertainment.
After greeting Sun Long in the Box Space, Jerry resumed his Meditation practice.
He practiced Meditation every night unless there were special circumstances. Magic power was the foundation, and without sufficient magic power, even the most powerful spells couldn't be cast. Moreover, Meditation was crucial for Eternal Life, so he couldn't afford to be lax.
