Chapter 166: If You Can Capture This Monster Alone
Chapter 166: If You Can Capture This Monster Alone
Rose and Heart immediately turned and flew away without hesitation.
Though they were both filled with suspicion, neither was foolish enough to ignore the danger. An entity that could make Night Owl and his companions flee in such a panic was undoubtedly terrifying. At a time like this, even a moment's curiosity could lead to dire consequences. The priority was to escape as quickly as possible.
After flying for three to four hundred meters, Rose suddenly heard a strange sound from behind.
It sounded like many wings flapping in unison.
She glanced back and her eyes widened in shock.
"What is that?"
About five to six hundred meters behind them, a bizarre creature was rapidly pursuing them.
The monster appeared to be made entirely of wings, pale feathers intertwined to form a mass. It had no head, no limbs, no face—nothing but a dense cluster of wings and a long tail trailing behind.
All the wings flapped simultaneously, moving in every direction, which should have caused chaotic flight. Yet, the winged creature moved with surprising speed and stability.
It was as if the wings were mere decorations, and it was actually flying by some other means.
"What kind of creature is that?"
Seeing Night Owl and his companions catch up, Heart couldn't wait to ask.
Night Owl's expression was grim. "I'm not sure. We were looking for you when we encountered that monster. It attacked us on sight, and we weren't a match for it, so we had to flee."
Rose and Heart exchanged a glance, both half-believing and half-doubting.
Night Owl, Black Forest, and Hunter were all powerful individuals. For the three of them to be driven to such a panicked retreat by a single monster was hard to believe.
But they didn't have to doubt for long.
The winged monster suddenly increased the speed of its flapping wings, its body swelling as if it were taking a deep breath. At that moment, Night Owl and the others could clearly feel a surge of air currents within the tunnel.
Then, without warning—
"AAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!!!!"
A terrifying howl echoed through the entire tunnel, the sound waves spreading like a shockwave, accompanied by an overwhelming energy surge. Death followed the sound waves like a tidal wave, crushing everything in its path.
In an instant, all the apprentice wizards gasped in pain, their faces contorted beneath their masks. Their flight faltered as they struggled to maintain control.
Seizing the opportunity, the winged monster quickly closed the distance. Its dense wings flapped violently, creating countless air blades that shot out and struck Heart, who was lagging behind.
Almost instantly, Heart's shield spell, energy particle barrier, and magical item protections were torn to shreds by the air blades. His body was then shredded into a cloud of blood mist.
The others, recovering from the shock, paled at the sight. Without pausing to cast spells, they activated their magical items, a rainbow of light engulfing the winged monster.
Having done that, they frantically accelerated their escape.
No one cared about conserving their strength; they all used their most potent survival techniques, significantly increasing their speed.
However, they soon encountered a rock wall ahead.
A dead end!
Night Owl gritted his teeth and shouted, "Breach the wall!"
At that moment, everyone acted in unison, unleashing their strongest attacks, which struck the rock wall with a deafening boom.
The thick rock wall shattered instantly, revealing a dark opening beyond.
Without slowing down, they charged into the opening.
The light suddenly dimmed, then gradually returned.
Behind the opening was another vast cavern.
The group looked around, their eyes widening.
Not far away, Su Nan, Traveler, and Scepter were surrounding Iro.
Both groups were momentarily stunned upon seeing each other.
Night Owl was about to speak when his face changed, and he quickly dodged.
Rose and the others did the same.
BOOM!
Countless air blades erupted from the opening, shattering the rock wall and expanding the gap several times over. The winged monster then burst through.
"What is that?"
Traveler and Scepter were both taken aback.
They had assumed Night Owl and his companions were being pursued by Saurol and the stone scorpion, but now it seemed different. They appeared to be fleeing from this winged creature.
However, Su Nan was the most shocked.
He stared intently at the winged monster, his eyes filled with uncertainty.
The creature before him was identical to the statue he had found in Giant Eye City.
"Is this creature the divine being worshipped by the Eye Demons?"
Su Nan was filled with shock and doubt.
After capturing the City of the Giant Eye, he had instructed the Red Widow to send people to search for the whereabouts of this divine being, but they had found nothing. He never expected to encounter it now.
But then again, this place wasn't too far from the City of the Giant Eye. It made sense that the divine being would appear here.
"Be careful, this monster is very powerful!" Rose warned, her tone serious. "Red Heart died at its hands! It can use the Banshee's Wail!"
At this, the Scepter and the Traveler both grew solemn.
The Banshee's Wail was a notorious, large-scale instant-kill attack with unparalleled destructive power!
Creatures with insufficient physical and mental fortitude would die instantly, bleeding from the seven orifices upon hearing it.
Even those who could resist it would suffer severe injuries.
While third-level Wizard Apprentices had strong physical and mental attributes, they were not completely immune to the Banshee's Wail.
Su Nan, however, smirked and remained silent.
The others had only read about the Banshee's Wail in ancient texts and didn't fully understand its power, but Su Nan had witnessed it firsthand in his previous life.
The true Banshee's Wail was a capability that even full-fledged Wizards feared.
If this divine being had used the true Banshee's Wail, Rose and Night Owl wouldn't have escaped!
The Banshee's Wail, at best, was a similar sound-based attack, akin to the sound waves from a Death Bell Striker.
Despite this, the divine being had easily killed Red Heart, indicating its power level was at least Fourth Circle Legendary, possibly even stronger.
This realization added a layer of gravity to Su Nan's expression.
"Chirp chirp!"
Seemingly surprised to encounter so many humans at once, the multi-winged monster hesitated for a moment before screeching and flapping its wings, sending a barrage of air blades toward the group.
With their numbers bolstered, Night Owl and the others gained more confidence and began to counterattack instead of fleeing.
Su Nan scanned the area and noticed that Iro was nowhere to be seen, likely having escaped during the chaos.
This woman, skilled in illusions, was also an expert at concealment. If not for the fact that she had used an illusion on him and been injured by the Death Bell Mark, capturing her would have been nearly impossible.
Pushing these thoughts aside, Su Nan focused back on the multi-winged monster.
The priority now was to deal with this divine being!
Boom! Boom! Boom!
Deafening explosions echoed through the cavern!
A kaleidoscope of magical lights illuminated the cavern, turning it as bright as day.
The multi-winged monster was likely the first creature in nearly a thousand years on the Starlight Continent to be besieged by seven third-level Wizard Apprentices.
And it was living up to the challenge.
Despite being surrounded by seven attackers, it manipulated air currents to deflect spells while continuously flapping its wings to launch air blades and summon lightning, catching everyone off guard.
"The air currents and lightning suggest that this creature's divine energy is tied to sky and air domains," Su Nan mused.
A divine being's abilities were determined by the divine domains associated with its energy.
For example, the Scream Horrific Worm's divine energy was related to sound.
The multi-winged monster's domains were easy to guess based on its abilities.
Regardless, a divine being meant divine energy and bloodline marks. Su Nan wouldn't let this opportunity slip away.
"Everyone, what should we do with this divine being?" Su Nan called out.
In the midst of the intense battle, the others were taken aback by Su Nan's question and nearly got hit by the air blades.
Night Owl gave Su Nan a puzzled look and said, "This isn't the time to talk about that. Let's deal with the monster first, and then we can divide the spoils."
Rose, however, quickly caught on to Su Nan's plan. "You want to capture it alive?"
"Exactly," Su Nan nodded calmly.
The others were dumbfounded.
They were already struggling to hold their own against the monster. The idea of capturing it alive seemed utterly preposterous!
"Now isn't the time for jokes," Black Forest grumbled. "If you have the time to talk, help us fight this thing!"
"I'm not joking."
Su Nan's expression remained calm as he cast a Magic Missile to fend off the monster slightly.
"It's better to discuss the spoils now to avoid disputes later."
Black Forest said irritably, "If you can capture this monster alone, it's yours!"
"Deal!" Su Nan turned to the others, "What do you think?"
Night Owl and the others exchanged glances and, without a word, stepped back.
They were genuinely curious now.
Even with their combined efforts, they couldn't subdue this monster. How did Su Nan plan to capture it alive? Even Traveler and Scepter, who had witnessed Su Nan's strength before, felt he might be overconfident.
This monster was clearly not something one person could handle alone, let alone capture alive.
But they knew Su Nan wasn't impulsive or reckless. He must have a reason for his actions, so they wanted to see what he had in mind.
No longer holding back, Su Nan's silver metallic liquid instantly seeped out of his pores, rapidly forming a shower of metal spikes that rained down on the many-winged monster.
Sssss!
The air barrier that easily withstood their combined magical attacks shattered after just a few moments under the metal storm. The sharp spikes slashed through the monster's body, leaving deep, bloody gashes.
"Chirp chirp!"
The many-winged monster let out a pained cry.
The onlookers couldn't help but gasp.
"What is that?"
"Such a powerful attack!"
"Is it a magical artifact?"
Even Rose and Traveler, who had seen the Magic Core before, widened their eyes in shock.
They could clearly sense that the Magic Core's power seemed even stronger than before.
Ignoring the others' reactions, Su Nan activated the Death Bell Mark on the back of his hand without hesitation.
A piercing sound wave instantly swept through, causing the many-winged monster to freeze in place.
Seizing the opportunity, Su Nan decisively threw three High-Rune Gems, which transformed into golden-red flames and struck the monster.
At the same time, four gray Catastrophe Claws materialized out of thin air, clawing viciously at the monster.
The many-winged monster was the most powerful creature Su Nan had encountered so far. He went all out from the start, using almost all his trump cards without regard for the cost.
He threw High-Rune Gems as if they were free, and replaced his Catastrophe Ring as soon as it was used up, showing no mercy.
Under Su Nan's relentless assault, the many-winged monster howled in pain, unable to counterattack, and could only struggle to stay alive.
The members of the Dense Forest Cottage were left speechless and stunned.
They never imagined that Su Nan could actually suppress the monster!
And what were those gray claws and rune-inscribed gems?
Magical artifacts?
But the gray claws were one thing; the power of those gems clearly surpassed that of Glittering Tier magical artifacts. What were they?
Coming to their senses, they swallowed hard.
The strength Su Nan displayed was simply terrifying.
He was on a completely different level from them.
Only now did they realize they had vastly underestimated Su Nan. His true power far exceeded their expectations!
After a series of relentless attacks, Su Nan's Catastrophe Ring was the first to be depleted.
The Death Bell Mark on his hand had been used three times, leaving only one charge.
He had also used more than twenty High-Rune Gems.
Despite the enormous cost, he had achieved significant results.
The many-winged monster lay on the ground, barely alive, covered in blood, and could only gasp for breath.
Su Nan casually fired a Magic Missile, causing the monster to tremble and wail in pain, but it couldn't get up. Only then did he confirm that the monster had lost its ability to resist, and he let out a long sigh of relief.
After all, it was a fourth-circle legendary divine creature. To be safe, he had used most of his trump cards, and his mental energy was nearly depleted.
If even this couldn't defeat the many-winged monster, he would have had to use his remaining trump cards.
If possible, Su Nan didn't want to go that far.
After all, it wasn't safe yet.
Saulo was still nowhere to be seen. The man might be hiding somewhere, watching them. He needed to keep a few tricks up his sleeve just in case.
Approaching the many-winged monster, Su Nan took out a gem and began drawing a sealing array.
His previous research on the Death Bell Striker had given him some methods to weaken divine creatures, which he could now apply to the many-winged monster.
Whoosh!
Just then, a black shadow suddenly darted out from the gash, carrying a foul wind, and lunged at Su Nan's back.
