Chapter 165: The Three-Tailed Beast, Isobu [37]
Chapter 165: The Three-Tailed Beast, Isobu [37]
"Maple... Night... I..."
Lin opened her mouth with difficulty, wanting to tell Fengye about her situation.
Fengye's gaze fell on Lin's chest. Although he didn't have a Byakugan or Sharingan, he could still tell that Lin was currently out of control due to the curse mark that Uchiha Madara had implanted in her heart, manipulating her body and causing the Three-Tails' chakra within her to go berserk.
"I know," Fengye assured her with a reassuring look, reaching out and tapping on the coat of Three-Tails' chakra that was leaking out of her. The crimson chakra that was about to transform instantly dissipated.
The Three-Tails' chakra continued to leak out of Lin's body.
Fengye glanced at the dissipating chakra and then at Lin's heart, asking, "Do you trust me, Lin?"
This question was almost rhetorical, as Lin's gaze answered it all.
After a glance at Lin's eyes, Fengye nodded slightly, waved his hand to disperse the Three-Tails' chakra once more, and raised his right hand, saying, "It might hurt a bit... but just endure it for a moment."
Right after.
As Kakashi looked on with a hint of bewilderment.
Fengye's right hand formed a knife-hand and abruptly stabbed forward, piercing through Lin's chest and penetrating the manipulation curse mark implanted in her heart. The curse mark was instantly destroyed.
Lin froze as well.
Was Fengye trying to kill her?
"Hmm?"
As soon as Fengye confirmed that the curse mark left by Uchiha Madara had been thoroughly destroyed, he withdrew his right hand and infused a strand of time-reversal power into Lin's chest.
But it was at this moment that he suddenly sensed something, his gaze flickering slightly as he raised his left hand and waved it toward a distant location.
Buzz!!!
A silver crescent, entwined with thunderous light, flew out.
The trees in that area were instantly destroyed, revealing a figure entangled by bizarre branches, its appearance obscured.
The previous attack seemed to have had no effect, passing right through.
"Who are you!" Kakashi's face changed as he stared at the figure.
The person's face was completely wrapped in a spiral, bizarre mask, with eyes that shone a crimson hue, bearing patterns within that were distinctly different from the Sharingan.
Swish!
A bizarre vortex appeared, and the figure vanished in the next instant.
It was also about this time that Fengye withdrew his right hand from Lin's chest. The blood that had sprayed from her chest turned into countless blood beads that flew back into the wound, which then completely healed and disappeared.
Gazing in the direction where the figure had vanished, Fengye fell into deep thought.
"Uchiha Obito? You really are something, Uchiha Madara... Did you find the most 'opportune' moment to have the White Zetsu bring him over?"
Fengye had considered that Uchiha Obito, having fallen into Uchiha Madara's hands, would eventually be led down the path of complete darkness under his guidance. However, he hadn't expected the plot to unfold in such a similar fashion.
He wondered how Obito would react when he found out that Lin was still alive.
Would he turn pale with shock?
Or would he just remain dark and brooding?
"Fengye...?"
Lin had snapped out of her daze by this time. She stared blankly at her chest, reaching out to touch the skin there gently, her expression filled with disbelief.
What she had felt before was undoubtedly correct, and she wasn't under any genjutsu now, yet such a fatal injury had been healed—no, it wasn't just healed, it was as if her body had reverted to its pristine state before the injury!
What kind of medical ninjutsu was this?!
She suddenly realized something.
No wonder Fengye had asked her that question, and no wonder he had said it might hurt but that she just needed to endure it. She felt a twinge of shame as she realized that, in that moment, she had hesitated to trust Fengye completely.
"It's alright now. The curse mark in your heart has been destroyed by me," Fengye said, turning his gaze back from where Obito had disappeared and nodding slightly to Lin.
Kakashi also looked over, his attention drawn away from the mysterious figure in the forest, who had left him with a sense of familiarity and vanished in a peculiar manner. He was more concerned about Lin's condition.
Seeing that Lin's chest was completely unscathed, not even a drop of blood on her clothes, Kakashi was bewildered and couldn't help but wonder if he had just been under a genjutsu.
"Thank... thank you..."
Lin looked at Fengye, her eyes brimming with a torrent of emotions and countless things she wanted to say, but she didn't know where to begin. Finally, her gaze quivered as she spoke.
Just then, her eyes underwent another transformation, and the seal within her began to stir violently once more, causing the Three-Tails' chakra to surge uncontrollably again.
This time, it wasn't due to the manipulation of the curse mark.
It was because the seal had been breached multiple times by the Three-Tails' chakra, creating gaps and damage. The seal, already unstable, was becoming even more so.
"Lin!!"
Witnessing this, Kakashi's expression changed as he asked, "Is this... the beast's chakra? Did the Kirigakure ninja seal the tailed beast within you?"
Even with his usually slow reactions, he had guessed Lin's situation.
Lin gritted her teeth and acknowledged Kakashi's concern. She was doing her best to suppress the Three-Tails' chakra within her, struggling against its formidable power.
However, her strength was insufficient. At her current level, she was still a notch below a jounin, possessing only the chakra capacity of a chunin. The chakra of the Three-Tailed Beast was far beyond her control, even if it was just a fraction of its total power.
Kakashi's expression grew anxious as he turned to Fengye.
Fengye placed a hand on Lin's shoulder and gave Kakashi a calm look. "Don't worry. Go help your team. Leave Lin to me."
"Okay."
Kakashi nodded.
He trusted Fengye completely and knew that he had no means to deal with a tailed beast on his own. In such a situation, he could only rely on Fengye's unique abilities.
Kakashi quickly went to assist Kiba Inuzuka and the others, helping them tend to their badly injured companion and clean up the chaotic battlefield.
As for Lin...
Fengye frowned, realizing that using time regression could only cause the Three-Tails' gathered chakra to dissipate temporarily; it wouldn't make it disappear entirely, and the beast would continue to amass its power. So, he raised his hand, abandoning the idea of suppressing the tailed beast's chakra with time regression.
"Looks like it's time for a little 'chat' with you, Three-Tails."
Fengye picked Lin up with one arm and swiftly carried her away from the center of the battlefield, setting her down on a tree trunk. He then stretched out his hand and placed it on the seal located on her lower abdomen.
His chakra surged into her, penetrating the seal and entering a dark space within, where it coalesced into Fengye's figure.
He looked up.
Suspended in the air was a massive water bubble, inside which the massive form of Isobu, the Three-Tails, could be seen. The bubble seemed too small for the beast, as part of its tail hung outside.
Lin stood on the other side, her hands emitting her own chakra as she struggled to prevent the Three-Tails from breaking free. However, it was clear that she couldn't push the beast's tail back into the bubble.
The Three-Tails glared at Lin and Fengye with its enormous eyes, roaring, "Humans... you can't bind me..."
"Stop resisting, Lin," Fengye said, glancing at her. "Let it out."
"Huh?"
Lin paused, a hint of uncertainty flashing across her face as she sought confirmation of Fengye's instruction.
After all, this was a tailed beast! If it broke free from its restraints, the destruction it could cause was unimaginable!
Fengye gave her an encouraging nod.
Looking into Fengye's trustworthy eyes, Lin took a deep breath and slowly lowered her hands, no longer restraining the Three-Tails.
Hiss! Hiss!!
The Three-Tails' sluggish tail suddenly became agile, thrashing wildly within the bubble and causing the water inside to splash out. The bubble continued to shrink.
Then, to Lin's alarmed gaze, the bubble shattered completely, and the Three-Tails' body broke free, landing in front of her and letting out a thunderous roar.
Whoosh!!!
The surge of the tailed beast's will, along with its overwhelming chakra, made Lin feel like a flickering candle in the wind, about to be snuffed out at any moment.
"So this is... the power of the Three-Tails..."
Lin's heart trembled within her.
At that moment, Fengye stepped forward, positioning himself between Lin and the Three-Tails.
Crackle! Crackle!!
A terrifying wave of chakra surged forth.
This vast chakra was like a relentless tidal wave, endlessly pouring out and instantly separating Lin from the Three-Tails. It then transformed into a lightning aura, enveloping Fengye's body.
This was the core space shared by the jinchuriki and their tailed beast, where only chakra and sealing jutsu could be utilized.
Fengye's mastery over sealing jutsu was average.
But...
That didn't matter.
He could continuously extract chakra and inject it into Lin's body, entering this space without limit.
Here, his chakra was as good as infinite. Whether it was the Three-Tails or even the Nine-Tails, they stood no chance against him!
Crackle, crackle...
Bathed in silver light, Fengye's gaze was indifferent as he clenched his right fist and placed his left hand over it, making the knuckles crack. Then, he strode forward toward the Three-Tails.
"Ninja..."
The Three-Tails stared at the approaching Fengye, its enormous eyes gleaming. It had expected Fengye to reinforce the seal with a more powerful jutsu, but instead, he seemed to be intending to confront it with pure chakra.
The last ninja who had directly opposed it with chakra alone was a long time ago—a ninja named Hashirama Senju, who possessed the chakra of Asura. The Three-Tails couldn't resist him.
But this ninja before it now...
Aside from seemingly having an abundant supply of chakra, there didn't seem to be anything special about him, and he lacked the power of Indra.
