Chapter 165: Lanchi Will Do Anything as Long as it's Not Illegal
Lithens Castle, Third Floor.
The trio and the vampire walked down the corridor, their footsteps muffled by the thick carpet.
Lanchi was leading Viscount Augustine to the Art Paradise, both parties in high spirits and the atmosphere amicable.
They traversed the chilly hallways, the flickering lamplight casting long, wavering shadows.
At the end of the darkness stood the massive black oak doors of the castle's master bedroom, solemn and majestic. The passage of time had left its unique imprint on the ancient portal.
As they reached the doorway, Viscount Augustine's eyes gleamed with anticipation in the dimness. Though he didn't want to appear rude before the count, he couldn't wait to indulge in the three humans that awaited him.
"I've been longing for this moment."
It was evident that Count Palokas had taken control of the castle and was waiting for him.
"Best of luck to you," Lanchi wished him sincerely.
Viscount Augustine chuckled and raised his hand to gently push open the grand door. As it creaked open, a heavy, tangible oppression seemed to spill forth, along with a strange, musty scent of potions.
The dim light of oil lamps flickered on the stone walls, illuminating an array of knives and test tubes. Odd green elixirs glowed faintly in bottles and jars, filling the bedroom with an eerie ambiance.
In the center of the room, three masked clergy surrounded a bizarre humanoid creature lying on the bed.
They had coated Count Palokas with resin and tightly wrapped him in layer after layer of linen cloth.
The count had been transformed into a mummy, his ashen face beneath the wrappings devoid of life, except for a pair of empty eye sockets. His hands, however, still twitched and trembled, as if to assert that he was alive.
When the trio noticed the arrival of Viscount Augustine, their gazes locked onto him like hounds spotting fresh prey.
"!?!"
Viscount Augustine, taken aback by the scene before him, felt a chill run down his spine. His eyes darted with a mix of disbelief and alertness.
The count was nowhere to be seen, and this was certainly not the master bedroom. It was a horrifying laboratory.
Though Viscount Augustine didn't know who the unfortunate soul bound to the grinding table was, he was certain it was a weak member of his clan, for only the blood race possessed such eternal life.
The viscount's reaction was swift as lightning. His survival instinct kicked in, and his gaze instantly shifted behind him.
However, at that very moment, his vision was engulfed by a blinding, pristine radiance!
It was the world as seen through sunlight, like an infinite blaze, scorching his eyes.
"Impossible——!!!"
As Viscount Augustine's piercing scream rang out, Frederick, standing not far behind the viscount, stepped forward and seized the vampire's wrist. He gripped the viscount's shoulder and forced him to the ground with a thunderous crash, as if the floorboards were splintering beneath their weight.
The sixth-rank vampire viscount, already weakened by the recently lifted seal and extreme hunger, was as fragile as a cockroach without its shell under the searing sun.
"Behave," Frederick growled, pinning the viscount's head down with one hand while accepting the Blood Pressure Reviver that Lanchi offered with a smile. Without hesitation, he plunged the syringe into the viscount's back and drew out his heart's blood.
The blood slowly rose in the chamber, like a crimson indicator foretelling the viscount's fate.
"Filled with sorrow, yet unable to shed tears, exhausted beyond measure yet unable to sleep, doomed to endure endless days and nights, forever trapped in this mortal realm!"
The Great Lover, summoned by Lanchi, snatched the cardinal's sunglasses and placed them on his own face. Looking at the state of Count Palokas and Viscount Augustine, he began to sing for them.
"..."
Having his sunglasses stolen, Lanchi could only close his eyes.
The Great Lover often stole the spotlight, and now Lanchi felt a bit embarrassed.
He couldn't quite understand why the Great Lover had such a unique personality.
"Perhaps there's another reason they can't cry or sleep, something beyond their control."
As she spoke, Hyperion took off her sunglasses and placed them on Lanchi, who was standing beside her.
She felt that witnessing this scene was a test of her moral fortitude.
"Thank you, Hyperion."
Lanchi first thanked Hyperion and then turned to the three clergy members,
"We've brought you some more 'goods'."
"Who... who are you people?!''
Viscount Augustine's cry was filled with fear and anger.
However, the humans paid him no heed.
"What should we do with this new one?"
"No need to go that far, but if he doesn't cooperate, feel free to get creative."
"Let's start by removing his organs."
"I agree."
Seeing Count Palokas lying on the bed, full of vigor, Lanchi was convinced that the loss of organs had no impact on the blood race's daily life.
After all, they would just grow back.
"Do you Honing people know what you're doing?! In the Great Blood Moon Era, you will face endless pursuit and vengeance from the blood race!" Viscount Augustine's voice trembled with fury as he asked.
Although he couldn't quite understand the jargon these humans were speaking, he got the gist of their extremely cruel intentions.
"Viscount Augustine, I recently heard from a blood race that in the Honing Empire, the blood race is the law itself, and human laws are merely rules for worms to abide by. So, it's quite normal that you blood races aren't well-versed in the current laws."
Lanchi assumed the demeanor of a seasoned lawyer as he explained the latest version of the Honing Empire's criminal law to Viscount Augustine,
"While the laws of the Honing Empire prohibit humans from trafficking other humans, there's no mention of trafficking the blood race. Therefore, what we're doing is perfectly legal."
After arriving in the Shadow World, Lanchi had perused the Honing Empire's regulations out of curiosity, and indeed, there was no such clause after the blood race's revisions.
"......?!"
Viscount Augustine was left speechless for a moment.
Wasn't that obvious?!
In this world, who would be insane enough to traffic the blood race?! And why would the blood race add a clause like "no trafficking of the blood race" to insult themselves?!
"I am not the weak blood race lying on that bed. I am a blood race viscount! Do you know the fate of that witch? She died by my hand. Even if you mortals gamble with your lives to seal a blood race, it's meaningless!" Viscount Augustine continued to struggle and roar in defiance, addressing Frederick.
These humans probably didn't understand the severity of dealing with a blood race viscount like him!
